Spitballing some ideas for our first weekly dev question

So, after I’ve been asked to “set the ball rolling” and what not I decided to actually do it now :p Even though gregski hasn’t gotten back with a definite answer from the devs yet on whether they will go through with this whole “Ask / request / tell CDPR something once a week and get a reply” thing*, I suppose it doesn’t hurt to come up with a few ideas on what we could first ask / request / tell them should they agree to it.

Agent Blue suggested that we think about candidates for the three following categories:

1) top question
2) top request
3) top concern

Well, have at it then and comment on what you would like to see them answer or respond to for each of these. After we’ve gotten a couple of good choices for each category I’ll make a new thread where we actually vote on them.

*
The general idea here is that we increase and facilitate the communication between us fans and the developers of CDPR by voting once a week on a topic or question that we want to get their opinion on / answer to. One such query per week seems manageable and certainly would be easier for them than browsing the forums and finding out on their own what we are most occupied with.

Moved to the discussion section since it's about the game.

Demut - it's a nice idea, but please bear in mind that the devs HAVEN'T said they're OK with this, and also that questions asked may not be something that they're in a position to answer. And I think that the current fuss over the console/PC issue may make them a little reluctant to give vague answers that can be misinterpreted.

So I don't want to rain on this parade, but please keep expectations realistic.

The equivalent thread for TW2 was started by the devs themselves, and they didn't answer every question raised.

I have to take the lion's share of the blame here. I think it's a good idea, even taking into account there's a fair chance they shan't be following through with this. Take the thread on Novigrad. We know it ended up starting an internal debate that probably wouldn't have happened otherwise.

Anyway, sure as hell beats threads where console gameplay is said to be awful, all with a straight face.

Dangit xD ! I specifically DIDN’T post it in General this time because I thought it’d get moved again like that other thread.

I know, that’s why I mention that in the OP.

Sure. It’s obviously their prerogative to refuse to answer questions that they don’t feel comfortable addressing or simply cannot answer yet. I’m aware of that. For this reason I thought about making the second-most voted on question/whatever of the week the “surrogate” question. So if they can’t/won’t answer the winner, they can just go with the second place and so on.

You don’t have to worry about that. Since that much time has already passed since I heard anything from gregski about this I’m not exactly optimistic anymore :p For now at least ... I might bring this up some other time should it not get approved this time around.

Yeah but that one was less organized and less “portioned”. I think a single query per week would be less likely to overstrain them ;>

Question:

I saw Geralt and pretty much everyone's hair still looks a little 'Polygonal'. Although i understand that it could be taxing to the hardwares, would it be possible for the TresFx technology for Geralt and all the important NPCs? Thanks :)

Those are some good ones. Could you elucidate the last one, your concern about the Witcher senses, a bit though so that people who haven’t read the respective thread(s) know what you mean?

I am concerned - in fact, I'm pretty much persuaded that's how it's going to play out in the final game - the Witcher senses feature will boil down to a matter of pressing a key and automatically being given the relevant information, dispensing the player from any real detective work, leaving no room for misinterpretation and failure.

I oppose that.

It could be similar to Tomb Raider 2013 survival instinct, in my opinion. However, i hope not for a simplified gameplay honestly.

Please keep the discussion of the propositions to the eventual voting thread. This is one here is only supposed to accumulate a couple of them to choose from. Let’s not get derailed here :p

That's what I was going to say. Otherwise this will bloat out of proportions thus defeating its original purpose, whuch is to provide devs with a sucint and straight to the point source of popular questions, concerns and requests.

Demut, I have a another suggestion. Instead of a weekly exchange, why not once every fortnight or even on a monthly basis?

I'm sure they're on a tight schedule - not that you'd know from John Mamais' overrelaxation :D - but a weekly exchange somehow seems quite unrealistic.

It does? I already thought this was a pretty chilled schedule. Answering ONE question per week? Is that really too much? I mean it’s not like they have to run it by the whole company or anything. In most cases any of the devs could probably answer it and they wouldn’t even have to get a specific one to answer/comment. But sure, if they think this is too stressful they can obviously do it less often ...

Oh and feel free to post more suggestions for questions/requests/concerns if you come up with another one, people. The faster you create a pool of choices the faster you get to vote ;)

And this is the concern - the opening post includes an expectation that the devs are supposed to provide answers, despite the fact that they have given no reason for anyone to have that expectation.

And yes, they probably would need to run it by people, given the way that answers can be misinterpreted.

So again, to make it clear, this thread is not in any way official, and is not the result of any discussion or agreement with the developers. So ask whatever you want, but be totally clear that they may choose to answer, they may not, it is entirely their decision.

Again, I am aware of that. I mean in their interviews, too, you can see that some question they simply answer with “we can’t comment on that now” and that’s fine. If this whole thing actually ends up being seen through then it is obviously going to be done on their terms.

Question: Will there be gnomes (since they're present in the books)?
@Demut: not really, like the one in my avatar (dwarf-sized)
Request: Zoo in Novigrad :p

Concern: Soundtrack (less epic, more unique)

Yeah this is fine idea if its a question we discuss among ourselves ( we all know how well this goes..lol), but expecting regular answers from the devs might be pestering them.

Errr. I don't think there's any chance in hell for this thread to be taken as the official anything. No red label and we already have two timely posts from you spelling it out. :D

Thanks for the heads up!

Oh, okay, I see. Then sure, bring on the gnomes, CDPR.

Well, they said themselves multiple times that they value our opinion the most so I thought why not present them with the opportunity to get the clearest, most distilled form of it :p
