Wow, I can't believe I never realized it already is split, for so long. I was wondering why some boards appeared slightly different top to bottom, but I think the effect isn't pronounced enough, and a clear difference in tint/shade of the material/terrain isn't noticeable. Maybe it's just because most people have the starter terrains, so everything appears generally similar between games.
However, there should be a clearly noticeable difference, so that the screen appears as if it were split in two, between the two terrains, with the use of saturation effects, or a difference in tint for grasses/ground for example, or colors for rock types, or lighting effects, ie: blue dusk, orange dawn, etc...
