That is not the first opinion I see when people say Witcher's story is better. I love Witcher series more than Cyberpunk since I find gameplay and side quests in Witcher more satisfying, but main story... seriously, the main story of W3 is just primitive.
Defeat bad guys, save the world. How can it possibly be compared with so much more complicated and dramatic plot of Cyberpunk.
To be fair, the base plot premise of CP isn't all that complicated nor is it anything new.
The latest example that comes to mind is the Duck Tales reboot where Magica Despell resides in her niece as a shadow. She needs her nieces body to come back into the real world. Her nieces body only exists because of her (Which Despell can control occasionally). If she manages that the niece is banished into cyberspa... I mean the shadowrealm (Where she eventually will loose all sense of her self). So, they have to push despell out of her for the niece to survive. Which then presents new challanges. Sound familiar?
Oversimplified in my explanation, but it's almost the same story as it is with V and Johnny. You really don't have to look far for that kind of examples. You can also find examples in most Sci-Fi Shows. Like Star Trek, Stargate and even The Expanse. Sure, the setting differs but the base premise is the same. Some are almost carbon copies even.
The whole Goa'uld race in stargate is based on the premise. Culminating in the Season 3 Episode 15 (Name:
"Pretense" ) where it's the whole point of the legal debate who has ownership of the body. The Prasite that claims nothing of the host remains or the host because they are the original owner of the body.
Also, the drama isn't generated by clever writing per se, but rather by employing (in my opionion: cheap) writing tricks. Like Fatalism (as I have learned), and a fake sense of urgency.
/e and pretty much all of them have better endings! -sighs-
/e² I can provide quite a few more examples.
