Maybe that is the ending. You play the game over and over looking for a decent ending. In the end you get so pissed you take the first chance to blow V's brains out and call time on the game lol
its was but it was johnnys fault he annoyed me so much saying i can help i cant help this and that blah blah i figured F it this is my only choice .. sad that when i went back to try to get a better ending they were all just as bad but the first one was the best imo

As I said, it would have been, if writers just stopped where they should have. Now everything Alt says is just concretes the fact that it's a copy and you will inevitably die in 6 months, it even says so in dialogue. So tell me, how ambiguous is that.
Okay even if you interpret the clone part, I can see that, but it still says, you INEVITABLY die in 6 months. Not maybe, not possibly, INEVITABLY.
Sorry for being pessimistic, but saw that in a screenshot, so it kinda spins in my head right now constantly.
and even then it is only a "happy end" if you romanced Judy or Panam. Like I said, all great chracters, but I´m not into them. I and some others here want our happy endings with River(my case) or Kerry

There may be no proper "happy ending", but the one where you take over Afterlife gives you hope. it ends with you taking on an impossible job, because the pay off may be what you need to save your life! V's conversation with the Blue Eyed Man explains that as his reason to take the gig, did everyone miss this? seems like an obvious DLC route to give a better resolution to V's conundrum.

You should not rely on screenshots. Have you complete those endings or just read on them?

Here's an ending related quandary that's just occurred to me. It also brings some elements of soul killer and what is a personality.

Alt was the first victim of soul killer. She is just a cold AI who admits she does not know anything of the Alt from before-result of soul killer. Yet Johnny is exactly the man he always been, with full personality and recollection of his past.

Also when V Jack's into Mikoshi Alt uses soul killer on him, yet he too is full 100% V, personality and all.

So where does this soulless scenario come from and under what conditions or constraints?

It's kind of covered a few ways in the game. First, it's mentioned that the soulkiller that killed Alt isn't the same soulkiller that messed with Johnny. Johnny's is mkII Soulkiller, based on the soulkiller program but different. I think they said if I remember right that the generation they are using in 2077 is third gen.

It's also mentioned if I remember right that Alt the AI does know Alt previously, she just doesn't care. Johnny is Johnny, saved to a chip. Alt bonded with soulkiller gen 1 and left into the blackwall and... became something else. So while Johnny is Johnny, AI Alt is kind of a merge between Alt the human and the Ai. Alt wasn't killed by Soulkiller, she merged with soulkiller to save herself and eventually gain revenge on Arasaka. It's basically what'll happen to Johnny/V when they merge with her, they'll become something more, something different, and are no longer Johnny/V.

It's why V is V and Johnny is Johnny. They just haven't chosen to merge with AI Alt/Soulkiller.

7 supposedly endings and all of them have to be depressing? I think I just cut myself.
Bladerunner, dystopian world, has ambigious ending, but not depressing. Ghost in a shell, same thing. Deus Ex even has separate endings that don't end up as pure depression. Maze runner, Ready player one, Mad Max, Elysium, Oblivion the list goes on. All dystopian/dark style movies that have nice/happy endings in some way or another and it's a movie, where writer tells the story his only way with only one possible ending.
We are in the game, where choices supposedly matter, yet they don't.

You should watch Steven Kings the Mist (the film not the netflix show). That has such a ****ed up ending but it's amazing. Also I disagree about your interpretation on the blade runner ending. Either Harrison Ford dies or the android fighting for his rights does depending on which version you watch and the world keeps spinning.

Yeah it looks like so as well, but as we discussed, they need establish a canon ending then. Which could be this (even tho i think it's fukin stupid, going for space casino gig). I also think Arasaka one with Mikoshi could be but that's kind of sketchy.

Just to provide some substance to my view that the endings cut the story short... By a lot!

sorry im late and havent read through the nearly 150 pages here, i googled it last night, has anyone tried the secret ending? i read its really hardcore because its labeled "suicide ending"

they should have cannoned a semi happy ending as the default like witcher 3 then try to put positive and negitive spins on it for other endings

Mist is a movie. if it were an rpg with "choice" we would expect to be able to choose not to do what he did in the end. just sit it out, for example.

It tells a story so literally no difference.

passive and interactive experiences are inherently different.

I wanted to end with River but I didn't know how and where to find him so ended with Judy.

Yes, cuz it's a movie, made to be watched and have no interaction with the watched. It has only one ending made by writer. We have a supposedly and RPG with multiple endings, but we didn't get that.

If your argument is that the endings are identical then I agree. But would you make the same argument for an RPG with a singular ending?

I can say the same thing about forcing a happy ending y'know. If you wanted a happy ending I don't know why you were playing a Cyberpunk game in the first place honestly.

For me it's not about a happy ending, it's that all in all the ending doesn't match the flow of the game, and all the endings are the same.

So the game is literally built around two premises. One that it's better to burn out, then to fade away. To die young and make a difference and be remembered, or to simply die of old age. Second, and lesser, the quandry of the soul. The second point is covered in the ending. The first one not so much.

So V dying young, not a bad deal given the premise, except for the fact that she didn't burn out, she really accomplished nothing, all in all, other then maybe making a few friends and effecting maybe 10 peoples lives, she did nothing.

Which for real life is realistic, but for a movie it kind of sucks. Hell Bladerunner showed that Decker went on a life changing journey and discovered more about himself. You kind of get hints of that with V, but it's so muted, so hidden behind Johnny, that it seems neutered.

So you get to ride off into the sunset, or stay in town, and do nothing, die of young age and be forgotten, which is exactly the opposite of making a difference and being remembered.

Hell ME3's ending wasn't happy, but you made a difference. I don't need happy, I need endings which follow the premise of the game, and aren't 7 endings all the same (V/Johnny dies) with minor differences (you stay in town/ride away).

Thank you, I completely 100% agree.
