Landing Keanu in the role undoubtable influenced the way that CDprojectRed developed the character for the game. But, I think posters are grossly misrepresenting the story by claiming it was written in response to Keanu joining the project. I maintain that even if a lesser known voice talent had been cast in the role and Johnny's visual appearance based on a lesser known model, he would have still been a central lynchpin to the game much in the same way he is currently used.

So as I understood it, the whole story was essentially started with the Voodoo Boys wanting to contact Alt.
But why exactly? What was the purpose of risking so much just to get to Alt?

If it was explained, I must have missed it, and it seems pretty important since none of that story would have had happened without it.

It is simple
The Voodoo Boys are way smarter than they look. And they have software that is really cool , even huge corps want to get it and use it but the software is well protected by the gang. However, they /the V. Boys/ having such netrunner specialists realized that the "dark side" of the net will at some point win agains the corps and will start causing trouble for most people on Earth /probably/ So they want to kind of cut a deal or team up with Alt / the other AIs. It was not directly said in this manner but I understand it like this. I might be wrong ofc...

One major thing worth mention, that the NetWatch wanted Johnny engram. Yorinobu wanted to sell this tech to NetWatch, and their requirement was both - Relic 2.0 and Johnny Silverhand Engram specific. I guess that VDB found out about this deal as they are in constant war with NetWatch, and the rest was told accurate by neocyril.

My guess that NW wanted Johnny Engram with the same goal to lure out Alt, and i belive that further story it might move in Blackwall direction.

Ahhh, ok now that makes sense. It explains why the Relic was there, and establishes the NW/VB opposite views/conflict.

With a little bit more explanation in-game it would have made things a little clearer and provide a stronger narrative foundation.

There is net but not internet as we know it... it is bunch of nets and not one huge internet. Like Arasaka-net or Millitech-net.... Got it? Its just bunch of networks but you may gain access to a network by finding an entry point from a connection or straight up establishing a physical entry point.

I appreciate the very informative explanation, but the whole thing makes zero sense. Especially the bit about there being "rogue AIs" trying to break through the Blackwall. In order for there to be rogue AIs and a Blackwall to begin with, there has to be an internet. Otherwise that rogue AI is a just a computer in a room somewhere.

And once again, I disagree. Those plot points and the lore supporting them had all been established long before Keanu was ever involved with the project. Claiming anyone of them was hastily written to accommodate Reeves blatantly ignores the history of the game.

Agreed. I will make this more easy to understand, the problem is not at Keanu, but at CDPR have no time to finish the whole story.
If a deal is the only thing Yorinubu want, he have many choice, but a Relic have the soul of Johnny? It doesn't make any sense.
The truth is Yorinubu want more, so as the Netwatch and VDBs, but we may never know the real motive.
VDBs told us they want to chose "the right side" between human and AIs, I believe that. But it's not enough, they can have much more plan which is better than steal the Relic, VDB suddenly can't realized that Saburo would rather nuke the NC than lose the Relic. Especially Alt never care their lives and kill them while they fight with Netwatch, actually both of them ...
CDPR just use the base stand of VDBs and NW , pretend it to the motive, bad guy doing bad things, actually there is no reason.
In my opinion, VDBs and NW was a strong story line which is a epitome of the war between human and AI, they can't finish it, so they make VDBs a quick death and end the story line. That's it

that sounds like a case of bad rushed writing. cdpr definitely has their work cut out aside from the bugs and glitches that currently plaguing the game
