[Spoilers] Additional, post-ending expansions?
Just like everyone else, I'd like to say that I have nothing but admiration for the Witcher 3 (and the series as a whole). It truly is a remarkable achievement.
However, just like many others I can't mask the disappointment I felt at the ending. After the credits rolled, I no longer had the desire to go out and explore the world after you return to Kaer Morhen. To have invested not just time, but emotion into the characters which you come to hold dear – for them all to be taken away – seems to contradict to what we fight so hard for in the story.
With every game, I think it's crucial that a gamer is able to enjoy the fruits of their labour. Yes your actions have consequences – not just ones seen briefly in a post-ending sequence, but ones you can see and interact with. I think the solution lies not in some free update, but in a future paid-for expansion – one where the world is truly still alive post-game.
For example, if you chose Triss, you can fast travel to a small location in Kovir (like the Palace at Vizima) and interact with her, sleep in your own bed to restore health, and take freshly cooked food back off on your travels to Velen instead of eating dried fish. The same goes for Yennefer too. I also see no reason that the rest of your compatriots can't still exist in the game world – why not visit Zoltan at the inn or by chance spot Keira and Lambert on their escapades?
I know I sound like a broken record -there have been discussions in other threads of this simply being unrealistic in such a vast game, but I'm not suggesting endless additional quests and hundreds of hours of additional dialogue. It goes without saying that this is something I would happily pay for.
I think such a triumphant final game in the series needs a real love-letter, a final send off - and closure on a title which is currently the best game I have played.
