[SPOILERS] [THEORY] Mr. Blue Eyes, V, and the Fall of the Blackwall — Cyberpunk 2077’s Ending and Setup for Cyberpunk Orion

+
My theory assumes that the ending CD Projekt could use as canon (if they choose this option) for Cyberpunk Orion — is the secret ending where V assaults Arasaka Tower with Johnny to avoid collateral damage.

This path suggests that V survives, and allows us to theorize about the sequel.

It leads to the infamous “suicide mission” at the Crystal Palace, the only difference being that Rogue doesn’t die at the hands of Smasher. The ending is ambiguous — we don’t know if V dies during the mission or succeeds, only to die afterward from his own body rejecting his neural schema.

However, many clues suggest V does NOT die.

Before the mission, V meets the mysterious fixer, as is customary — Mr. Blue Eyes, who promises a reward if the mission is completed successfully. He never specifies what that reward is.

At this point, V is Night City’s most famous mercenary. He already has glory and wealth. This mission could make him a legend, as no one has ever done anything like it.
V, already on borrowed time, has nothing to lose, and thus no reason to refuse. It’s easy to ignore the reward offered by Blue Eyes.

Until… Phantom Liberty.

We meet Songbird, who suffers from the same problem as V and promises to heal him in exchange for his help.
If we choose to save her, we realize she lied: the neural matrix can only save one person.
Still, we help her escape to the Moon to undergo surgery.

Interesting detail: it’s Mr. Blue Eyes who organized her evacuation.

Songbird contacts V afterward, leaving behind a memory, letting him know she survived.

Mr. Blue Eyes — Powerful but mysterious

We know nothing about his motives, but he has incredible resources. Why is he interested in V and Songbird?

The common factor: they both had contact with rogue AIs.

Alt Cunningham & the Blackwall

Alt was Night City’s best netrunner until she was killed by Arasaka’s Soulkiller and imprisoned in Mikoshi, until Johnny freed her into the Net.
She crossed the Blackwall and transcended her human form to become an AI.

When we meet her again, she speaks cryptically. Johnny’s reactions make it clear: she’s no longer human. She admits it — she no longer functions by human logic or emotion.

In multiple endings, we witness her immense power as she kills nearly everyone in the Tower, shocking even the most hardened characters.

Alt’s “Mistake” — or a Lie?

In Mikoshi, she reveals that V’s body has adapted to Johnny’s neural pattern, and thus rejects V’s own consciousness, seeing it as a virus.

Wait — what?!

Alt, an omniscient AI, able to cross the Blackwall (which no other AI can do), didn’t foresee this?
This doesn’t add up.

Then it gets worse.
  • Arasaka also “fails” to save V, using the same excuse.
  • The NUSA succeeds, but leaves V in a coma for 2 years, unable to use implants due to nerve damage.
  • Songbird survives her surgery… under the care of Mr. Blue Eyes.
How can Alt fail where humans succeed?
How can she be unaware of Militech’s neural matrix tech, designed to resist the Soulkiller (which she knows intimately)?
Songbird, who uses Blackwall protocols, was aware of it.

So… Why would Alt lie?

She now exists as part of a collective AI, seeking to absorb the souls trapped in Mikoshi.
She urges V to abandon his body and join the “collective”, giving his body to Johnny.

At first, it seems logicalV is dying, right?

But then… she recites a poem about abandoning the bodyright before revealing the failure of the operation.

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Alt knew everything.

She may not be evil like the AIs manipulating Songbird, but she follows her own logic.

Arasaka’s Similar “Mistake”

They pressure V to accept their “immortality” in Mikoshi — a psychological ploy to make him surrender his rights.

NUSA’s operation fails too, but perhaps intentionally.
V is left isolated, weakened, and forced to align with them.

Songbird, operated on by Mr. Blue Eyes, recovers quickly.
Either his resources exceed NUSA’s, or NUSA purposely sabotaged V’s recovery.

Three ways to be “saved”. Why not a fourth?

Why wouldn’t Mr. Blue Eyes save V too, especially after promising a reward?

The cure for the Relic may not be as difficult as everyone claims — maybe it’s withheld to control V.

I believe the reward Blue Eyes offers V is the cure — if he succeeds in the Crystal Palace mission.

What is the Crystal Palace hiding?

- AI Base / Interface with the Net?

The Crystal Palace might be the entry point for rogue AIs into the real world.
Mr. Blue Eyes sends V there to “prevent” the invasion.

- Arasaka Station or Rival Mega-Corporation HQ

The Crystal Palace could be a secret headquarters where corpos plan orbital domination.
Objective: Take down a corpo’s plan to save Night City from space-based control.

- Engram Transfer Facility / Illegal Experiments

A site for experiments on human consciousness, cloning, or post-human transcendence.
Possibly extracting or uploading souls for unknown purposes.

- Final Node of the Blackwall?

A location where the Blackwall is weakest, possibly breached.
V must sacrifice himself to stabilize the digital barrier — or let it fall.

Else?

The Blackwall Crumbles

Throughout the game, we see the Blackwall weakening.
Rogue AIs attack (Militech lab, songbird mission), manipulate politics (mayor quest), and infiltrate reality.

Alt’s “revenge” on Arasaka is a manipulation.

The Blackwall is on the verge of collapse — perhaps already breached.

Two years later

In the ending where V undergoes surgery and wakes up two years later, when he returns to Night City, the Blackwall appears to still be intact. This may be related to the fact that, unlike in other endings, we did not destroy Mikoshi and thus did not weaken the structure of the Blackwall, which could have caused the rogue AIs trapped behind it to break free.

Because if Mikoshi is destroyed :

- Release of the Imprisoned AIs

Mikoshi is the place where the consciousness of individuals captured by Soulkiller are imprisoned, but it is also a kind of "containment zone" for AIs. When Alt Cunningham was captured by Arasaka and transferred to Mikoshi, she was trapped with other AIs and humans whose minds had been captured.
If Mikoshi were destroyed, AIs like Alt and other imprisoned consciousnesses would be released. Once freed, these AIs might attempt to cross the Blackwall, a digital barrier that was set up to prevent "rogue" AIs (errant and potentially dangerous) from entering the real world or infecting humanity's digital infrastructure.

- Weakening of AI Security

The Blackwall is a defensive mechanism designed to prevent unauthorized AIs from accessing the real world. If Mikoshi is destroyed and the imprisoned AIs (like Alt) escape, this could weaken the Blackwall in several ways. The AIs that escape from Mikoshi could be powerful enough to manipulate or bypass the Blackwall, potentially causing its weakening or destruction.
Alt, in particular, is an extremely powerful AI capable of crossing the Blackwall on her own, making her even more dangerous if she were to be freed from Mikoshi. She could be a kind of "key" to opening a breach in the Blackwall.

- Possibility of a Breach in the Blackwall

If Mikoshi is destroyed or compromised, a "breach" in the Blackwall could theoretically occur. This could be the result of the instability created by the release of the AIs or simply a side effect of the collapse of the network's containment structure.
If an AI manages to cross this breach, it could begin interacting with human systems, undermining the security of society, especially if it has malicious intentions or a desire to "liberate" other AIs.

- Instability of the Blackwall Without Mikoshi

Mikoshi plays the role of a "cutoff" or "cleansing" point between the captured AIs and the outside world. Without this facility, there is a risk of destabilizing the boundary between the world of AIs and that of humans, increasing the pressure on the Blackwall. If it becomes less reliable or damaged, the AIs could eventually cross it, leading to an invasion of rogue AIs into the real world.

We have no information about what happened at the Crystal Palace during this period, so we can only speculate that, in this ending, Mr. Blue Eyes does not organize the mission at the Crystal Palace with other mercs. Since the Blackwall was not weakened, there would have been no reason for him to take action.

Of course, this reasoning is highly hypothetical but seems fairly coherent.

The Peralez Encounter — More Than Politics?

Mr. Blue Eyes also appears in one of Cyberpunk 2077’s most mysterious side quests — involving Jefferson and Elizabeth Peralez.

During this mission, V discovers that the Peralez couple is being manipulated through their neural implants, likely for political purposes. In the final scene, Mr. Blue Eyes is seen watching V from a rooftop — silently observing, with no explanation.

Why is he there?

This suggests that Mr. Blue Eyes is involved not only in recruiting individuals like V and Songbird, but also in **political manipulation**, possibly using brainwashing or advanced AI technologies.

What if the Peralez couple is part of his larger plan to **prepare humanity for the collapse of the Blackwall**? Perhaps he’s experimenting with **mental control**, creating leaders who will be able to **resist the rogue AIs** — or serve as **bridges between human and AI consciousness**.

This adds a disturbing layer: **Blue Eyes is playing a long game**, placing pawns across Night City — in politics, in the Net, in orbit — for a war that no one sees coming.

CENTRAL THEORY

Mr. Blue Eyes is preparing for the fall of the Blackwall.
He’s recruiting those who survived AI contactV and Songbird — for the war to come.

The Crystal Palace mission? Possibly preventive — or the trigger.

“The big leagues” isn’t about corpos. It’s about survival of humanity.

But who is Mr. Blue Eyes, really?
  • A friendly AI who crossed the Blackwall like Alt — trying to help humanity survive what’s coming?
  • A god-tier netrunner working for a secret megacorp even more powerful than Arasaka or Militech?
  • A proxy for something otherworldly — an extraterrestrial force or a transhuman entity, as some cryptic clues suggest?
  • None of the above — something else entirely, something we haven’t even imagined.

Why Orion?

- A New Beginning or a New Vision: Orion could represent a new chapter in the Cyberpunk universe. If we consider the brightest star in the constellation, Betelgeuse, which is a red supergiant nearing the end of its life, it could symbolize the end of a cycle for humanity, or the conclusion of certain storylines started in Cyberpunk 2077, and the arrival of something entirely new and more radical. It could also hint at the birth of new technologies or forms of life, aligning with transhumanism and AI, which would take a more central role.

- Symbolism of the Hunter and the Quest: Orion in Greek mythology is a legendary hunter. The name could allude to a character on a quest — whether for a noble cause or a more personal goal. Combining this mythological aspect with the themes of Cyberpunk, it could represent a character who is fighting against overwhelming powers (corporations, AI, etc.) in an epic and complex manner, trying to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. It could also refer to a new protagonist in Orion who, like V, will have to battle forces beyond their control.

- Connection to the Digital Future and Transhumanism: Finally, the name Orion could also be a subtle reference to the boundaries between humans and AI. Orion, being a symbol of unity in space and time, could represent the fusion between human and machine, which is a central theme in Cyberpunk.

Who knows?

As I mentioned in the title, this is just a theory, and it doesn’t mean we would play as V again, as I said.

Apparently we was supposed to be able to go to the moon..but got dropped because of time taken to fix the game.. probably moved that project for Orion.
At this point all I would like to see in current game is a option to add johnny silverhand cyber arm and different body types in vanilla.
CDPR please make this happen 👍

About the last question, Why Orion, there is a more litteral "grounded" possibility: Orion is a minor corporation in the TTRPG, specialized in covert ops operation and in particular rescue/extraction operation. So can be a very good setup for a video game.

But are V and Song suffering from the same thing? Maybe the cure is the same, but maybe the neural matrix wouldn't even work on V. Song isn't known for telling the truth, except for that tiny little bit when she breaks the bad news to V at the very end.

The way I see the deal with Mr Blue Eyes going is V wakes up in a body, not unlike that from Adam Smasher.

Dunaedine: Yes indeed i forgot to write this !

MartineDee: True. We can't be sure. The only thing i hope is that V is alive. So much effort and sacrifices to get rid of the relic. And Johnny had to "die" for this :(.
