it's not HBAO+ just litle bit more intense SSAO in DX12 ( again, WHY CDP...), better diferrence making MXAO RESHADE, still not level of HBAO+ but quite nice substituteOpen in full size to see the difference. Settings are identical. DX12 is the one with minimap off. It seems DX12 uses HBAO+

MXAO is not a solution because it "bleeds" through fog, smoke, glare etc. I find it very immersion breaking and can't understand how people can play like that. (The same people that complain that SSAO doesn't look as good as HBAO+it's not HBAO+ just litle bit more intense SSAO in DX12 ( again, WHY CDP...), better diferrence making MXAO RESHADE, still not level of HBAO+ but quite nice substitute

HBAO removed from game
Just noticed that the new update have removed HBAO from the game and replaced it with only SSAO, so the graphics looks much worse now if not playing with ray-tracing on. This seems like a very strange move as the ray-tracing definetly is more demanding and only have an on/off switch. Please...forums.cdprojektred.com
HBAO+ is needed primarily for computers that cannot work with rtx, and they removed it only in order to show "new graphics" that are almost the same as hbao. They did the same with MSAA (which was also removed) and now the anti-aliasing settings make ugly soap, or buy dlss3. Instead of leaving a choice, they seem to want force to forget about the functions that worked well without all this RTX clowning. It's just mean.personnaly i'm not really focus on if there's ssa , ssao++ , hbo++ , xxxxxx technoloy on dx11 vs dx12 : all i see in my opnion , dx12 looks a lite overhall better ^^ .
its goods to talk about technics. but be aware mostly all time even on press review they use some tags , names , its mostly know a merkating purpose . in really often each dev team do a custom api , techno , engine ... or proper tools / plugins in engine game . they may use a well know term to describe a technic feature but the tool used may be a little different
as a player perspective i focus on result , how this feature ( techno ) can improve or not my experience , the fun to play .
don't forget the primary market for gaming industry is console not PC .HBAO+ is needed primarily for computers that cannot work with rtx, and they removed it only in order to show "new graphics" that are almost the same as hbao. I agree, but with MSAA i think you have made mistake.HBAO+ is needed primarily for computers that cannot work with rtx, and they removed it only in order to show "new graphics" that are almost the same as hbao. in my opinion results of classic W3 AA it's very smilar to TAAU, but worse then DLSS.Anti-Aliasing
To tackle jagged edges, CD Projekt RED has developed their own post-process anti-aliasing solution, as hardware anti-aliasing techniques such as MSAA and TXAA are incompatible with REDengine 3's renderer. This unnamed post-processing technique operates with a level of fidelity similar to FXAA, but with an added temporal anti-aliasing component to reduce the crawling and shimmering of anti-aliased edges when the camera or player's viewpoint is in motion.
