Starting over. (Spoilers)

Starting over. (Spoilers)

So, after sinking upward of a hundred hours into this game, I decided last night, begrudgingly, to start over. I messed up super early on and sold my witcher gear and was unsuccessful in tracking it back down again. I also wasn't too happy with how my Keira quest played out, this time I'm not going to bang her, or kill her. I'd also like to do a better job of keeping my inventory under control, now that I have more of an understanding of what crap I need so that I stop hoarding everything. I think I'm not going to buy any weapons or armor from people since I usually find something better in a chest ten minutes later. Sigh. I also failed two missions because I progressed too far into the story, mostly because I wasn't paying close enough attention to all of my open quests.

Starting over sucks. I'm running from level 4 wraiths and seeing three drowners makes me nervous.

I was in pretty much the exact same situation as you. I got about three-quarters of the way into the game, was level 24 on Blood and Bones difficulty, and then decided to start over.

My advice: make sure that you are playing on Death March, otherwise there's not much of a challenge. I would also discourage you from using the "Stars and Sun" ability, since it automatically regenerates health and saps the game of its difficulty.

My Geralt slept with Keira on the first playthrough, but it didn't sit well with me afterwards. Felt like she was using him - which basically she was - and she was never much into Geralt to begin with. Still, I like her character, so I sent her off to Kaer Morhen without doin' the deed.

Another thing I overlooked on my first playthrough: the "Ghosts of the Past" quest. It's pretty early, around level six I believe, and I didn't even know it was associated with Letho until much later.

Also did things a bit differently with the Baron on the second playthrough, and it was interesting to see how it played out.

Yeah, my first go around stars and sun was the first ability I picked up, this time I've avoided it, definitely more of a challenge. I slept with Keira and then killed her. Talk about not sitting right.

Hmm, curious as to what you could change with regards to the baron. Should I treat him like the victim he claims to be instead of like the asshole that he was?

I started over when I reached Act 2 and couldn't find Triss anywhere. I genuinely thought I'd messed something up so restarted a new playthrough. It was only after I couldn't find her a second time that I read up on the issue and found out it was a design flaw. Still, was for the best because I'd ended up having to kill Keira and hadn't found Dijkstra's treasure then got myself accidentally locked in to the Elven smith's quest while trying to recruit bouncers for the play.

On a side note, and sorry to derail the thread slightly, but it is possible to find Dijkstra's treasures and have Triss kill him or are they two separate paths?

You mean the treasure that the Witch Hunters end up with? I never found it, just the key to the vault. I think you played out that storyline further than I did. My last interaction with Triss was sending her off with the mages while saying "lates". I assume this has something to do with the Radovid plot which I didn't touch.

Spoiler alert:
You can't find Dijkstra's treasure since the reason is that his treasure is hidden in a vault in Kovir and he'll be pleased with what you've learned, you'll acquire this knowledge only if you asked Menge about the treasure's location but this is if you allowed Triss to be tortured only for a little bit.

Spoilers:

@deluges

The Baron is an asshole, no doubt, but his wife doesn't exactly smell like roses either. She cheated on him while he was away campaigning, and then proceeded to rub it in his face for the rest of their relationship. I'm not trying to excuse his actions, just saying that they kind of deserve each other. In any case, the fate of their relationship, and indeed their lives, centers upon what you do with the Whispering Hillock. I won't go into it further for fear of spoiling things for you.

@saladin1701

In order to find Dijkstra's treasure, you need to allow Menga's men to torture Triss while you pump him for information. Also, you can't ask him about the whereabouts of Dandelion and the treasure. I think you have to choose one or the other, or he becomes suspicious. That was one of the few quests that I intentionally failed, since the payoff (Dijkstra giving you some financial assistance down the road) didn't justify the means (Triss having her fingernails ripped out).

Ha, well, it certainly can't end up any worse than it did.
Let's see, Anna dies, his daughter disowns him and he kills himself.
If there's a way to prevent even one of those things from happening it's great news.

As an aside, why would you want to kill Dijkstra, he's awesome. He has both a rock troll and a eunuch. Livin' the dream.

No you're all misunderstanding me. I know how the quest plays out but if you ask too many questions, Menge turns on you and attacks and the scene were Triss holds him with her magic then stabs him with something never occurs. I'm asking is there a way to find the key without him turning on you so that Triss is the one that kills him in that cut scene or not?

Kill the spirt in the tree and Anna is saved which has a knock on effect for everything else you mention. Killing Dijkstra is one of those beautiful Witcher moments where him taking over the North is the right thing for the wider world but all you need to do is allow him to kill your friends. There's no other game series that gives you decisions like this :D

If that friend is Dandelion I'm okay with it. That guy's the worst. I think on my replay I'm not going to lie to Dijkstra, see what happens.

Actually it turns out you lie to Dijkstra anyway, but yea I'mma tell on Dandelion as well that boasting fraud, hated his guts.

D'oh.

Wow, why didn't I just swim to Novigrad the first time instead of paying all of that money? I had no idea that you could just jump to Novigrad straight from Vizima.

I love that part in the Witcher 3 when Dandelion looks at Geralt and says, "Why do good women always end up with such dicks?" Oh, the irony. He totally doesn't deserve Priscilla.

So, does anyone know the answer to this, please?

Yeah, if you want Triss to kill him I'm pretty sure this is how you respond:

  • “Why not.”
  • “Your hunters are torturing Triss, but I haven’t been paid.”
  • “Witchers do anything for gold,” or “Triss betrayed me first.”
  • “Free my friend Dandelion.”

You pretty much just need to not intervene with her torture. If you ask Menge too many questions he'll send everyone in to kill you. There's pros and cons to both options.

Excuse my frustration but clearly reading is hard. I want simply to know whether you can obtain the information about Dijkstra's treasure and have Triss kill him or whether the two are mutually exclusive. In order to obtain the information on the treasure, you need to take the following dialogue choices.

  • “Why not.”
  • “Your hunters are torturing Triss, but I haven’t been paid.”
  • “Witchers do anything for gold,” or “Triss betrayed me first.”
  • “I'm looking for a Treasure.”
  • “Free my friend Dandelion.”

However, at this point he attacks. Therefore are the two routes mutually exclusive, i.e. there is no way to have Triss kill him if you ask him about the Treasure? It's a very simple question. Can somebody please answer it?

The best Dandelion could do is the elven crossdesser right up there with the Old Woman asking for her pan, Grave hags and water hags.
