Thanks Tommy! good thing I kept that email then.Tommy said:I don`t usually double post but since editing doesn`t show up .
CDP Red will be handing out cd-keys for the GOG backup copies . However be prepared to show proof of purchase such as a receipt or Proof of Purchase confirmation email .
I will make a sticky in this section to hopefully keep the new threads about this to a minimum .

This i don`t know yet but will find out as soon as possible .UndeadCreepshow said:Tommy how will this work if we were gifted a copy of Witcher 2 over Steam? There is no proof of purchase technically since people who were gifted didn't purchase the game. Although i would still like to have the GOG backup on the 17th.
I'm afraid this Gog backup copy only is for retail versions (as they stated in the latest conference). They specifically said that they give you the backup, in case you "scratch or break you DVD or say if your dog eats it...".UndeadCreepshow said:Tommy how will this work if we were gifted a copy of Witcher 2 over Steam? Steam version is already digital and thus backuped on Steam.
I really think it would be for the best if CDPR answer this, either directly or via the mods (I gather that Tommy is asking).secondchildren said:I'm afraid this Gog backup copy only is for retail versions (as they stated in the latest conference). I have to agree with this, as my version on steam is messed up to say the least. When I heard about a chance to get a "proper" copy from gog I was elated.dragonbird said:I really think it would be for the best if CDPR answer this, either directly or via the mods (I gather that Tommy is asking).
Because if we're NOT getting it, there will be an awful lot of pissed-off Steam users, and I think that it's better to have a definite answer before we get the pitchforks out.
As far as I'm concerned, giving the Steam customers a working GoG copy isn't a freebie, it's a bug-fix.
I think you're right, but unfortunately two different mods have now said "Not Steam" in these forums. I think they're simply mistaken, but I also think that we really need to have some kind of clarification/assurance/correction.Gamer2210 said:please read the previous posts before commenting on an issue that was answered.
I'm talking about UndeadCreepshow's post in which he specifically proved that "GoG's backup is only for retail" is NOT TRUE, he provided a link and even specific time of when it was said that digital copies can get it from GoG.
for those who are too lazy to see the CDP Red's Spring Conference, i tried to copy most of what the dude said about the backup for digital copies:
"If you bought the game digitally, there's one huge reason why you should get the backup copy from gog because the game from GoG is the only true DRM free version of the game, you don't need any internet connection, you don't need any client, just grab the backup copy and play anywhere, anytime"
