Steam Installation Issues.....

Steam Installation Issues.....

So i purchased my copy from steam last night and ran the install. Everything went fine. unfortunately when I tried to play the game today after registering it, I received this error message

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application."

so i retry again and again and am met with the same issue.
After some thought I figured I would attempt to re initiate the game cache files through steam. That ran successfully and stated that I had one file that went missing and it had been added.
Wash rinse repeat...

I have a good rig and am capable of running the game, but as of late I'm at a loss of what to do. And I've already contacted steam support.

Its also the latest version of The Witcher 2.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I have also noticed just recently that every time i try to re launch it the .NET Framework has to be repaired.
Not entirely sure why, or what might be causing that.

Have a look here http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26150-patch-21-issues/
also here http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26411-additional-fixes-for-21-issues-and-142-error-or-witcher-2-stopped-working/ . If neither solves your issues please list system specs including motherboard .

Thanks a million, turns out it was the Searchqu toolbar. Which makes me curious as to why a toolbar would hinder my ability to play the game.

Thanks again!

I don`t know for certain but i believe it to be something that is in the .NET 4.0 that is interfering with certain software and Witcher 2 . All other patches that CDPR has released up to this point have installed flawlessly and only with the inclusion of .NET 4.0 with the latest patch is when things really started going screwy . So i`m almost certain it has something to do with .NET 4.0 , but i know that if is .NET 4.0 then Microsoft would have to be the one to fix this issue as 4.0 is a Microsoft exclusive software and we all know how long it takes them to get the ball rolling on some things .

While it is true it's Microsoft's responsibility to fix.net 4 and it’s (supposed) conflicts with various programs and software, its CDPR’s responsibility to fix their own 2.1 patch. When it became evident that .net 4 broke their patch, and that .net 4 was, as they say, problematic, they should have immediately looked to go another direction, even if it meant dumping .Net 4 (not sure if any of their other patches use .Net 4).

Sorry but this is squarely on CDPR, not Microsoft, not Steam - It’s not Microsoft's responsibility to fix CDPR's game patch, and Steam is just delivering a patch supplied by CDPR.

I also want to point out an interesting find I came upon with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended – the program doesn’t have a problem working with .Net 4 installed, as indicated in this post by CDPR: http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26150-patch-21-issues/ It works as advertised without having to rename the Acaptuser32.dll file.

The problem is that Witcher 2 (with 2.1 patch) can’t be run without renaming a file in the program. Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and .Net 4 get along just fine by themselves. I know this because I tested it myself, and would urge anyone who has the program to try it themselves. On the other hand, if I don’t rename the file, Witcher 2 won’t start (142 error). In this case that's clearly a patch issue, not a Net 4 issue.

My two cents.
