Steam Overlay doesn't work?

I have the GOG version and added it to Steam as a "non-steam game" and when I play the game via Steam the Overlay is inaccessible... I have to alt-tab to talk to friends etc. Is there any way to get the overlay working? You'd think they'd have it working considering the game is also sold on Steam...

Since this was moved to the Suggestions Forum I'll take that as a "No, Steam Overlay is currently not supported."

Correct, it's only supported if you buy the Steam version. The Gog version has its own client, Galaxy.

Yeah I figured as much. The problem is I have no friends on GOG, their all on Steam! As it is I can't easily communicate to them nor can I be notified of them trying to communicate with me. Well, I guess I could remove the game from Steam and play the game in a Borderless Fullscreen (I assume desktop notifications would be rendered over the game), but Borderless Fullscreen is more taxing than Fullscreen Exclusive Display Mode and Borderless Fullscreen is influenced by the DWM.
