Steam problems and Screen Res Problem

I am seriously regretting buying W2 on Steam, first of all it took 2 bleedin' weeks to download and then i got only 5 hours before it went into updating mod where i had to wait for like a week to update.... mate thats not even the beginging of my misery, it gets worse. Upon the release of patch 1.3 that's where the salt was thoroughly rubbed in W2 now doesn't support my 1080p resolution!!!! all i get is 640 to 1024.... WFT!!!

My system config is, Intel core i5, Ram 4GB 1333MHz, ATI 5770 1Gb DDR5, with a 23inch Samsung monitor!!!!!

PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE THIS PROBLEM OUT!

I'm sorry to read this. Steam does suck.

My only recommendation is to buy from GoG or get the retail version. After that, download all the patches manually from here: http://www.en.thewitcher.com/support/. This particular link also reveals technical troubleshooting guides for TW2.

Do a clean install and patching completely off the grid (no internet connection) but stop the patching to version 1.2. if you wish to avoid FoV issue at all that comes with Patch 1.3.

Or, you could go on installing Patch 1.3 and then experiment with resolutions by editing the "user.ini" file in /My Document/Witcher 2/Config/ folder, under the following section:

[Viewport]
Height=xxx
Width=xxx

Set it based on the supported res displayed in your video card display setting, with the following sample guideline:
If the FoV on my monitor looks truncated at 1024x768, I'd try to customize it to 1024x740. This seems to fix the issue, so the strings in my user.ini file under [Viewport] section will look like this:

[Viewport]
Height=740
Width=1024

EDIT ADDENDUM:
The trade-off of this method, however, is that you have to set the Fullscreen flag in user.ini file to "0", because the game doesn't support custom resolutions view.

Fullscreen=0

It's up to you, though.
