Steam 'RU Old' version

Steam 'RU Old' version

Is the 'RU Old' version region locked? When I got it several months ago before steam locked everything it didn't specify. It was a steam gift and those are supposed to say if it's region locked.

With all of the recent changes on steam I was wondering if this also has an effect on the gift I activated before they started locking everything.

I think it is not. Also, I traded a copy of Wasteland 2 for Witcher 3, which turned out to be the old RU version, and I wouldn't be happy about getting cheated out of a legitimate game copy that I paid for.

I think that CDPR created the new RU version in order to separate the old copies that people had traded or paid for, so that those ones wouldn't get region locked while the new RU version would be, so that people could no longer make cross-region trades.

It wouldn't make sense for it to be region locked. It would be extremely unfair since it wasn't tagged as region locked in the invens at the time.

My hopes is for a dev to see my post since there are many many mixed responses when I tried googling it.

I doubt it's region locked, that's why it's OLD and not listed as the current.

why does it want to know if you are old?

Hi, this has already been discussed here:
http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/32028-Witcher-3-Region-Locked

The answer is still pretty much the same, these are user forums, there's no-one here who can give you an answer, and you should contact Steam Support to check.

We still do not know.
Steam has never outright said if it is or isn't.

I reached out to Chris (Evil Chris) and he said he'd try to look into it a few days ago.

I also sent in steam emails but got a canned response about them not being able to change regions and asking if I wanted to have them remove the game (they didn't actually answer if it was region locked or not) so I sent a response but am still waiting to hear back on that one (it's the weekend though so probably not until monday/tuesday).

I think that as things currently stand, both the RU OLD and new Steam IDs are now region set so that they cannot be purchased or traded outside of their designated territories, but that there is no region-locking for being able to play the RU Old version, if it is already in a person's account.

As you can see here: https://steamdb.info/sub/47807/

The RU OLD copy is not available anymore, and it cannot be traded between regions, but it is not territory-locked in its ability to be played by people who own it.

I wouldn't expect a useful reply from steam support. I haven't heard of a single instance where they didn't just send back a preset reply - and sometimes even that takes weeks.

Sorry I haven't replied yet. I'm still waiting to hear back from someone in touch with Steam. Will reply as soon as I hear something.

Thank you Chris. Please keep us updated :)

BTW. The link you posted doesn't work Dragonbird.

I'm also wondering if we'll be able to redeem the product code for our steam version of The Witcher 3 on GOG like you can do with The Witcher and The Witcher 2.

No, you can't. The retail versions will have a GOG backup, but Steam doesn't really need one.

Really? I understand that it doesn't really need a backup, but I just redeemed my steam versions of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 on that website.
