What I really want to see disappear is games going exclusive with a particular client. We have GFWL, Uplay, Steam, Rock Star's social club. It's getting ridiculous.
Exactly.

I'm using Steam simply because I like to have my things in one place and I don't want to end up with 4-5 different client accounts. The other reason is that I'm writing reviews for a gaming site and I usually get the test copies in the form of Steam codes. I used to hate Steam for years, but now I've made my peace with it. It's not that bad, really. :)

That would be awesome yes, but we can't all have a good moral compass. Like have been confirmed time and time again, people don't give a rat's ass about DRM and "evil" business practices, as long as they get their "shot".

You know you really do not know what most of us do or do not do or how we live. I am unsure how you can judge my moral compass or any others members here because we bought games from steam.... it is ridiculous at best. Think before you type or speak. I also guarantee Holier than thou types(such as yourself as you have presented time and time again here) have dirty laundry and a few skeletons in the closet.

Oh man, so many touchy people here />/>

In real life I guarantee you wouldn't say half of what you do on here. I am far from "touchy" but if somebody is gonna paint a picture of me that is not true I will certainly set that S-H-I-T strait right away. One way or another.....now if you had any sense you would apologize like a man and admit you are wrong. However,I am sure you are not a man(or an honorable woman if that ye be) You started off serious but now people are coming at you ....well you do what most spineless people do. They/you try and laugh it off. In real life That doesn't always work at well for people like you.....just sayin.....

Ah, so now I'm spineless for having a different opinion than many others here. Most would say that having an opinion opposed to the vast majority is showing some spine, but whatever floats your boat.

Voice your opinion and don't care much for what the response is. A forum is a place for people to share their thoughts and experiences and have a civil discussion about it. If some people feel threatened by your post and retort with ad hominems rather than discuss the topic at hand, then ignoring the post in question would be the better option. For your sanity that is.

That said! I think Steam justifies its DRM for a couple of reasons.

One, Valve actually gives a shit about its customers and have created a pretty solid platform from which you can play games. I haven't had any problems with it. My brother got his account hacked. He merely took a screenshot of a cdkey from a physical box of a game with his phone, sent it to Valve, and got his account back. I doubt Uplay or Origin would give two shits about its customers. In fact, my friend bought Splinter Cell: Conviction. We were going to coop. The game doesn't work. If it was Steam, we'd be able to fix it the same night. Since Conviction runs through Uplay, we were screwed. So yeah.

Two, Steam offers fantastic and reasonable prices for games and have even started to sell non-gaming software. Affordable and downright a bargain at times, what's not to love?

Three, you can play in offline mode for significant periods of time (if not unlimited, not sure. Haven't had to play offline myself). Unlike games for windows live or any other disgusting DRM client...

And four, Steam itself is easy to use, convenient and works bloody good. I really have to emphasise this because I have to use GFWL everytime I want to play Dark Souls and let me tell, I cry a bit every time. GFWL is the analwaste of human achievement. It's utter and complete garbage. I hate that client with a fiery passion. So I guess you could say that I have perspective. And I appreciate Steam for doing the whole "DRM games platform client" thing right.

Though in the end it's all about compromise and balance. Valve has a really good business model and their ethos is commendable. In this vile and frankly depressing industry, it's interesting that Valve has remained so lovable in the eyes of the gamers. And understandably so. They understand that it's all about compromise and balance. They're gonna have DRM on their client but in return we get: a community, a forum, a bunch of games, incredible sales, a friend system which is easy to use and you can swiftly join a friends game if you want to, your entire library is on one account, you can play offline, you can download mods from Steam Workshop and etc etc etc. You see what I'm saying right? This is why Uplay, Origin, GFWL etc suck monkey dick. They don't give anything back to the customer other than their greasy ass sweat in a bottle. The respective publishers only care about profit, while Valve cares about profit AND their customers.

Which is obviously just common sense, customers is where your profit comes from, it makes only sense to take care of them. I guess that's why people hate EA, Ubisoft, etc. Because not only do they continuously insult gamers intelligence, but they're also dumb themselves. Rather than fostering good will and creating a solid bond of trust with gamers, they just don't give a shit. No wonder Valve is so praised and loved. They're just doing the common sense thing. Taking care of their customers.

I agree, so I'll just ignore the attacks and move on. Suppose I touched a nerve. One thing's for sure, I'm much more comfortable giving my hard-earned money to companies that deserve it, and Steam most certainly do not.

Got only

Skulls of the Shogun (only because there is no physical copy of it)
Dishonored DLC Dunwall City Trials

And what wrong with GFWL? I see that there is a lot of hate towards it yet very few can explain why. Its because Microsoft created it isn't it? Game activation is just like steam customer support is great, takes max 30min to answer the ticket unlike steams a weak or a month

That's what you get when you repeat the same nonsense over and over again ad nauseam.

What has Steam done wrong that you feel they don't deserve your money? Protecting their games against theft in a very non-intrusive and barely-noticeable way? Is that what they did wrong? Please do tell.

who's to say that we won't lose access to our thousands of dollars worth of games if they go under, that's why ownership matters.

Valve said that if Steam would ever go under for whatever reason, they will allow all the Steam users to download all the games they own to their PC and they allow ua to make physical back-up copies of the games (burn the games on DVDs or place them on external HDDs).

That way you still own your games and you can still play them.

Seriously, Valve is not that evil. They care about their customers and they won't rob us of our games if they ever go under (which I highly doubt will ever happen).

Honestly I doubt that's Valve's logic, because I very much doubt they are dumb enough to think DRM stops piracy in any way.

I think the DRM has to do being able to get all those nice sales that we do get, since publishers aren't too thrilled about the notion if there's no protection to prevent abuse of sales.

I'm aware of this, but I think it will vary from from publisher to publisher, which seems more likely. But who knows.

So this went from a steam sale to fuck valve thread eh? I wouldn't dare say anything what I bought now lol

Well, here's what I got:

Rush Bros
Kung Fu Strike
Sky Drift
XCOM EU
Fallout NV UE
Street Fight IV
Monaco
Resident Evil 5
Darkness II

But all I've been playing is Zafehouse Diaries (beat it last night) and Sonic racing :p/> Oh, and I played Rush Bros too, fun game.

I like it. Think of it more as an experience than a game. I ran it one night while I was up with insomnia, which increased the freaky deak.

The day i actually see a source for this quote that is constantly repeated will be a good day. No one has ever been able to produce evidence of Valve ever saying this.

Yeah that's what i'm planning. Have a few drinks and sit back for a couple hours and take in the atmosphere and story; looking forward to it.

Come on guys . Let`s end the bickering and return to the topic . Not everyone is going to agree on everything especially when it comes to games or the platforms they are played on . Is it really so hard to ignore a post that is not agreed with ?
