So, I heard mixed opinions about Splinter Cell: Conviction, but maybe it's worth 3.74 EUR?

Well here's the link to the PC metacritic page for some opinions.
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/tom-clancys-splinter-cell-conviction
Also as someone pointed out there it has always on DRM so if that's a deal breaker for you then there's your answer. Also there's the numerous times that Ubisoft has had issues with their servers so no one can play their game. Still it's your choice so it comes down to if you want to buy it or not.

Also right now it's apparently RPG voting time since they have Risen, Divinity 2 the Dragon Knight Saga and Two Worlds 2 all up for voting.

Most hate isn't based on the game being bad, but on it being different than earlier Splinter Cell games.
I'm a huge fan of the Splinter Cell series and I liked it a lot. Compared to the earlier games, it was a nice change of pace - and that's where most people stop thinking and start ranting. But in my personal opinion, it still had a stealthy feel to it - although in a different way: while typically you plan ahead and execute your plans carefully, in SCC you move quickly, plan on the move, react to what happens, improvise. Unfortunately, the game is a little too easy, so that it might seem to be too action-oriented and just-shoot-em-all-like, IF you play it like that (so, you could say that you should play the game the way it's meant to be, although it often doesn't challenge and require you to. Make sure to start on the hardest setting, too).
What really made the game for me is the more personal story. In addition to the typical terrorist threat, you also have a very present personal tragedy and get to see Sam motivated through emotions instead of duty, which gives the game's story much more depth and makes it more interesting.

Long story short: If you're interested in Sam Fisher and liked other Splinter Cell's for him and the story bits, if you can put up with a different approach to stealth games and if you can resist the urge to abuse the game's low difficulty, you should definitely give it a try.
If you're looking for a classic, slow-paced stealth game or want to play it as a straight-forward action game, better move along.

Thank you for this insight Aaden. I don't mind a little faster pace, I really loved the series so far and indeed I'm more interested in Sam himself and how his story plays out. Guess I'll give it a try.

If anyone's looking for a fun, different FPS, there's Bulletstorm at 4.99 EUR flash sale.

It comes from People Can Fly, Polish studio responsible for Painkiller. It has wicked guns and a skillshot system, in which the more creative way you kill enemies, the more points you gain to spend on better guns, which then help you kill enemies in even more creative way. It also has a MP mode, where you kill waves of enemies with up to 4 people.

Oh, and the game has some of the most creative swearing in gaming history :)

On splinter cell conviction: I got it yesterday. It's pretty fun, though it got the Ubisoft treatment (too easy, generally just shooting your way out of things is a better option than doing stealth).

HOWEVER! And I realise that I am too late, because it was too late for me: it is an absolutely horrendous PC port. Laggy cursor due to mouse smoothing (can't turn that off), 30 fps FORCED vsync in coop/multiplayer (can't turn that off either), poor performance (despite or maybe because of the Unreal Engine - I had a lot of trouble with Spec Ops: The Line as well). And it comes with the bonus of uPlay always-online DRM.

So in short: bad stealth game, bad PC game, but there are still some enjoyable bits here and there.
I can't really say I regret buying it for 3,75, because I'll probably have some fun with the coop, but principally I think we shouldn´t support games like this.

OK I have another question. Has anyone played the 2008 version of Prince of Persia? The one where you get "rescued" everytime you fall and according to multiple reviewers is way too easy?

I am a fan of Prince of Persia since childhood, it was actually the very first game I played on my computer. And the sequel... I still remember being blown away by the presentation of Prince of Persia II! Anyway, from the newer Ubisoft titles I only played Warrior Within (which I liked) and Forgotten Sands (which I actually enjoyed, even if they made the prince look like in the movie... which I'll never watch). So, do you think I would like this Prince of Persia (2008)? At $2.49 it is very tempting...

I didn't play PoP 2008 myself, but I watched my brother play. It's incredibly repetitive (jump around, collect the shinies, battle the boss - each battle has 2-3 "stages" where you just have to... beat the boss again - rinse and repeat several times). He finished it in an afternoon, in one sitting. The gameplay looked fun, and I personally liked the art style, but it is NO Prince of Persia. The only thing I really, really loved about it was the ending, in fact it may be one of my favourite endings of all time, but I'm not sure it's worth all the trouble. If you want a shiny, glorified platformer then go for it (check out youtube videos first? what you see there is basically the entire game, lol), just don't expect anything like the other PoP games.

I broke down and bought Arma 2. My friends had me built their first PC's and they bought mics/Arma 2 also so I couldn't resist.

PoP is one of my favourite franchises, but if you're going to buy PoP games I suggest you pick up either The Sands of Time and/or The Two Thrones, generally regarded as the best two games in the (Ubisoft) franchise. Both are absolutely amazing platformers (in case you didn't know, the entire franchise is on sale, not just PoP 2008)

PoP 2008 is kind of boring, really. It's unlike most of the other PoP's and there's very little challenge (you can't actually die/fail), both combat and platforming are really dull in this one. As Dona said, the presentation and story are nice, but the game itself isn't really worth playing IMO.

Try the more and more popular Day Z mod. It's an open world survival horror, where you run from zombies and more importantly - other people. From what I read around it sounds like fun. You can learn more about it on PC Gamer or RPS, they got pretty solid coverage of this mod.

Well that was helpful, thanks! I think I'll pass on this one then. I wish The Walking Dead showed up at 75% off, but considering only 2 out of 5 episodes are out that is very unlikely :p

It's very repetitive, but I'd say it's worth it. I play for the talks with the woman. I find them quite funny lol.

I have Arma 2 with the dayz mod installed. Any Witcher fans want to make a group and play together? I'd love to enjoy it with people on this forum. :)

Oh yea that was the reason my friends bought it in the first place. I was interested but didn't want to get into the game alone now it's just us screaming over Skype and cursing up a storm when we die. Good fun.

Hey guys. The summer sale is over but just today they had Jade Empire: Special Edition at 75% off. I went ahead and impulse-bought it (not much to lose at $3.75). I've heard a lot of good things about it... please tell me it was a good idea.

Now I'm set, I have at least 6 months worth of games.

It was a good idea. Personally I like Jade Empire more than KOTOR simply because it's a bit more different than usual fare.

There's a Halloween Steam sale going on. I think I'll get The Walking Dead at 40% off.

For a simple adventure game, it's pretty compelling. Much better than the TV series.
