The problem is that cutscenes are more demanding than game. Lots of players have problems with low performance in cutscenes :(

Yes, but this is such a known issue, with alot of players playing on top of the edge computers. I got the same problem and I havnt heard anyone having a good solution to this, they who have managed fixing it just seemed to have done random stuff. Non witch has helped me btw.

I have a very high end computer and have this problem, I mean common... you buy a game expecting bugs but this is absurd, i cant even play more than a minute.

Well so far, 2 things have been found as *Possible Fixes* for it: 1- Lowering resolution to 1024X7682- Disabling the DoF in the advance settings.Other than that, there could be some modification to the original files involved, there are a lot of mods appearing lately.Give us some feedback :)

Can you please tell us where to find these modified files? The dof is already turned off, resolution is lowered and installing to the default dir seems to make no sense (besides, i couldn't do that, i keep drive C:\ just for Windows and program files and i do not have enough space left).

Modify files wont help with that, and no, i cant give publicity to things that are not as intended by the DEV.... Cant you just get a partitioning tool and resize your c: so you can fit the game in it ? Or look at your registry, search for keys about Projekt or witcher, you may have some pointing to a bad path !

just to tell (sorry I don't have much time to make different tests right now, kind of busy.. maybe tomorrow in the evening I'm gonna make tests for a couple of hours) :So when I installed the game -> I made a 'default' install as far as I remember. And had the problem. Shouldn't be a problem of path (but but but.. i'm gonna watch the regedit tomorrow, just to see if path is correct)Shade

I am still thinking that installing the game into NON DEFAULT folder causes tis problem. After I uninstalled it and installed to default, issue went away ....

A friend had this very same problem.Turns out he had downloaded a modified Russian .exe file to play the game without the game disc.

Hey, I don't want to insult any of you guys, but it would seem that the majority of you that are complaining about this problem are not registered as game owners at CD Project Red, meaning either you are too lazy to use the registry key on the back of the game manual or you did not buy the original game...I read this topic, and have never experienced the problem myself, so I ran a couple of tests. I downloaded a couple of No Cd and Dvd cracks, including a modified russian exe. Installing the latter changes the path of the savegames directory aswell as modifies the original exe file. The game launches without the Dvd, but as soon as you get into an interactive cutscene (in other words, talk to someone) the game freezes up without any selectable options. This could be due to the game looking for the original DVD. I had to uninstall and reinstall the game before it worked properly again. For you guys that bought the original and are suffering from this problem, I really hope it gets fixed soon because this is one heck of a great game!!!

Ok, my The Witcher version works ; NO "HOW DO YOU FEEL" PROBLEM ANYMOREI took time yesterday in the night (*sigh* working right now.) to make a new installation with my official registered UK dvd. Here's the process I made ; remember that 3 days ago I was stuck at first dialogue cutscene "How do you feel"1. installing game (in english . default folder) & launch : NO "How do you feel" problem.2. registering the game & launch : NO "How do you feel" problem.3. patching the game v1.1a & launch : NO "How do you feel" problem.4. Changing resolution to Highest possible : NO "How do you feel" problem.5. Reinstalling Daemon tools : NO "How do you feel" problem.Ok, I did nothing special, so I was kind of surprised that it finally worked "without" any special manipulation. Magic....Not exactly :Explanation :Three days ago I installed the game a first time and put a NOCD.After some investigation, I recently discoverd that :-> this witcher.exe (nocd) was in fact, as mentionned in the thread, a russian one. And there are in fact NO other NOCD versions available. (there are all russian versions!!)Why?Russian copies of the game have another game protection than European ones. This Russian Nodvd 'cracks' the Russian security only.Important : a NOCD is normally illegal. I know that. Simply because it's a modification of a file. But well, if you pay for a game and if you can't play with own confort (for me it's to not changing my dvd's depending the game i'm playing..- where the hell did I put this dvd..?!)... So I'm just honest about that. So, unless there's REALLY someone here who has the "How do you feel" issue WITHOUT ever have install any NOCD for the game, I think that this unresolved problem simply is the good Game Protection that works. For my part, no doubt it seems that it's a problem of this russian .exe version to run game without DVD.Shade666

If you look at the first message in this thread, I clearly state I installed the Direct2Drive version and had this issue. The direct2drive version actually doesn't need nocd rip, as it already is nocd :) (uses different copy protection)So, the russian exe, nocd hacks are not the only way you get this problem. It happens even when you do a normal install of the game. I am still suspicious of changing the default install directory ....

Installing the game in the default directory did help some to resolve this problem.

That indicates that there is a registry problem for some people. *Sometimes* (but not always) this is caused by emulators that add virtual drives to the registry, causing path information to get a bit muddled. I have seen it happen on a system that's never had virtual drivers or no-dvd cracks though, so it can seem to happen anyway. It should be possible to come up with a quick registry checking tool that rebuilds information relating to the location of TW files, which might help in those instances.

I recently bought this game from Steam, and guess what, it freezes in the first dialog. I guess since it's Steam I bought it from, it should be up-to-date, and I really hope there's no copy-protections messing with my no-dvd-requiring installation. Any ideas what might be wrong?

The computer of mine consists of Core i5 2500K, 8 GB of ram and HD4850. The OS is Win7 64-bit. I've shut down DoF and set resolution to 1024x768, but the problem still persists. I do have Daemon Tools installed, due MSDN AA account of mine, so if this is the problem, how do I fix it?
