Stuck at the first dialog!

Steam downloaded something worth of 2 GBs and now it works Now the only thing left without answers is why couldn't the damned thing download it something like 10 hours ago?

Have you verified the game files ?
Open Steam>library right click the witcher and you should see an option to verify game cache or one similar .

Yes, in fact I did that, and Steam said a couple of files were not good. I presume the source of my problems were either not-uptodate game or my lousy SSD that has a history of corrupting files.

"Possible issue with the Steam overlay.

I had a similar issue and it had to do with Steam popping up an overlay to give me the CD key every time the game started. To see if this is the case, hold down the shift key while moving the mouse and see if that makes the cursor appear.

To make the problem go away, next time that little message popped up to give me the CD key, I checked a box telling it to not show me that anymore. Problem solved."
