stuck installation

Good afternoon!

I recently acquired the Witcher 2 boxed edition with all the goodies and I've run into a considerable issue: the installation process gets stuck after copying files from the DVD's at the step "installing? redistributables".

I've searched around the web and found some people with similar problems but no solution posted anywhere.

Thanks for your time.

My computer is a brand new hp pavilion dv7.

Quick update: after the aborted installation, more bugs appeared. Apparently it's impossible to remove the witcher 2 from the list of installed programs which makes the installer think the game is already installed so the only thing it allows me to do is uninstall - which it doesn't do.

This is so frustrating =/

I just bought a new computer and wanted to get it running with a kickass game =/

Ok, I managed to get rid of the previous installation using iobit uninstaller. Now that's fixed.

Anyone has any solution for the stuck on the redistributables part?

Thanks.

Last update, giving up now =/

Running the installer as administrator and disabling the antivirus didn't work.

Out of ideas =/

How long did you give for the redist. to install ? It may appear to be stuck on install when it may still be installing them watch your hard drive activity light . I never timed the installing of them but it`s somewhere in the range of up to 4-5 minutes .

Well, this time I'm trying a new approach: deinstalled all the redistributables. Apparently the software for the logitech mouse I just got installed some of these components itself - let's see if this finally solves it.

Aaand stuck.

Really stuck.

Well, nothing left but to return the game to the shop. I hope they don't have a policy against opened software, otherwise I'm outta 50 euros =/

As a last ditch effort I activated the hidden admin account and used that to attempt to install on a different directory.

No luck.

Why o why =/

Any ideas? I've googled even more and seen more people with this issue but not a solution anywhere.

I've the same problem with The Witcher 2 Premium Edition:
After the install shield wants the CD No. 2 and the installation of the rest of the data and the "Re distributional Contents" is done, the process of installation stops!!

I waited until the PC is doing nothing, no CD-ROM or HD activity.

Even the Task manager showed no activity, no active process!

But the Game isn't installed correctly, the part where the Registration-Key should be inserted is missing, also I can't set any game or graphic options.

When I then hit the "Start The Witcher 2 - Icon" on the desktop, an error shows up: missing mfc100u.dll

To whom can I send the CDs and get a pair of working correctly ones??

A very frustrated Witcher-Player

Exactly the same as me.

This is infuriating and we aren't the only ones around with this issue...

@ Bitmap Frogs and El Marinero

Try the link for the 2010 VC redistributables . If you have a 64 bit system it doesn`t hurt to install both the X86 and X64 versions . 2010 VC Redistributables

Hello there!

Well, thanks for trying to help.

Unfortunately, no luck. This last attempt had those redistributables installed, uac disabled, antivirus disabled, setup run as administrator, deinstalled logitech software (it uses those redistributables...) and god knows what else.

And yet I'm again deprived of The Witcher 2.

Awesome.

Tommy, you think if I mail cdprojekt my boxed copy of the game with unused key they'll mail me a gog or steam key? At this point I'm all for trying everything hahaha... ha.. =(

Yeah... did that yesterday, guess they won't replay on a sunday =D

However, apparently they only accept issues concerning starting the game or running the game, nothing about installing the game.

Wish me luck =)

Thanks a lot, Tommy,
but the missing mfc100u.dll and MSVCR100.dll Files are not the point.

The point is, that the installation routine doesn't finished correctly.
After copying the re-distributional contents to the HD, the process of installation just stops!!
No Pop-up of the registration notification nor does the installation shield says, that it is finished and you can start the game or look at the ReadMe.

Your are right to the point, that when I try to start the game, than it comes up with the warning that the .dll-files are missing.

I've notified the support yesterday, but there is no answer yet. I'll turn in the game tomorrow and try to get my money back.

Ciao El Marinero

I´ve done quite a lot of labor yesterdaynite and I found a way to play The Witcher 2.

First you've to get the 4 patches. URL-> http://www.thewitcher.com/support/
Start installing with patch 1.1, than 1.2 until 1.35

Then get the .dll-Files. Url-> http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/index-m.shtml

Look for mfc100u.dll and msvcr100.dll

Copy those files to the folder D:\The Witcher 2\bin\ (or wherever you've installed the game :) )
It's important that the files go to the "bin - folder"!

In the folder "bin" there are two files, which are important:
Configurator.exe and witcher2.exe :))

With the configurator you get setup the game and with the witcher2.exe you start the game.

Thanks to ElMarinero I can play the Witcher 2 now, but I've to say the configurator refuses to work claiming the game isn't installed so the game only loads on the minimum settings, I guess.

Luckily my GPU is a 6770m so minimum settings is all I can do =)

Are either of you trying to install a version of Witcher 2 that is not compatible with your language based PC . Example would be a Russian only version installing to an English based PC

Both files listed are in the 2010 VC redistributable package .

Hi Tommy,

no I didn't install any other Language for TW2 beside German on witch my OS Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit runs.

I've got my TW2 running and for me it's ok.
