Stuck on Loading Screen. Total freeze!

Hello folks
I bought the Premium Edition box of Witcher 2 back in 2011 and played about half of it.
Just reinstalled and updated to EE and the latest patch on my new machine and want to play through it before trying Witcher 3.
Up to the end of Chaper 1 everything has ran perfectly, but now at the beginning of Chapter 2 (with Iorveth) I follow the owl through the spectral battlefield and get to the pale foggy area at the end; then the loading screen comes up, the serpent orbits the skull once, then everything freezes.
That's it.
There's no error message and nothing in event viewer so it's hard to diagnose. I have to stop it in Task Manager where it says it's Not Responding.
I've tried removing all but the most recent save files but that hasn't solved it.
Any ideas?
I'm on Windows 7 64bit. This is a non-Steam version. No mods.
i7 5820K, 32gb Ram, SSDs

I know this is an older game so I don't know how busy these forums are, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

There's no error message and nothing in event viewer so it's hard to diagnose.

Yes. So my proposal: Upload your latest savegame (should be an autosave) and give us the link. Someone will try if your save shows the same unruly behaviour on other PCs. Then we will know more.

Thanks so much for the offer of help MaxStrauss, but the problem seems to have resolved itself.
I don't know what caused it, but after I ran CCleaner, cleaned the registry and did other housekeeping stuff, the freeze no longer happened.
If I have any other issues I'll be back!
