Sudden performance drop over night

Hi,I bought The Witcher a couple of days ago via Steam and started playing yesterday. Everything was working properly and smooth. Now I just wanted to play some more and suddenly the performance is gone to waste. It's been like 'saving the game at 40 FPS' yesterday and 'loading the game at 5 FPS' today.Anyone have any idea what could be causing the game going from smooth to unplayable over night without any apparent system changes? Thanks in advance and greetings

You can try turning some in game settings downAnistropic filtering----8 Antialiasing-----DisabledGrass and Shadow to medium Depth of Field--Unchecked I use these settings and my game runs a better FPS and the video card runs about 25 degrees cooler. It may work for you

Thanks a lot for your reply.Turning the settings down doesn't help and it wouldn't really make sense since the game ran at 65 FPS the day before (on highest). It seems to be a CPU usage issue. I did some further testing with another Windows 7 installation I have on my maschine. It ran perfectly fine on highest settings. (like it did on my regular W7 installation the first day).An important difference I noticed: Under my regular OS The Witcher always uses 100% of one core. Under the backup OS it uses from 70% of one core to 100% plus another 20% on a second core.So for some reason the CPU usage of the game changed from day one to day two on my regular OS...

100% on one core is bad. really really bad. The cores are designed to share load as far as possible. If one core is taking the brunt at 100%, you should stop playing immediately as the overload may cause permanent damage to your system. Most dual cores share load on a more 60-40 basis. ON quads usually 2 cores share a little more load than the other two. I checked on my laptop (Quad) usages are 15%, 7%,, 23%, 14% while running Witcher. On my desktop (Dual) usages are 49% and 32%.!00%+0% or even 70%+20% is scary. You have some other issue, and you must resolve this before you end up damaging your cores permanently.

It might also help to ensure you have a clean system by using either malwarebytes or SUPERantispyware to check for any kind of malware that might reside on your system. Both have a free version
