[Suggestions]NUDITY MEGATHREAD - Remove censorship and bring back what advertised

It's no different than the complaints regarding romance options. The romance and nudity are components the developers decided to incorporate into their game, then they stealth patch out this or that, censor this or that, people are right to be disappointed and vocalize that. Again, why bother with a "genital system" and have a nudity toggle?

I can't remember the exact BS word for word from their trailer, but "the city is all about looks" - yet you can't change anything about you in the city? And why are there things that NPCs can wear that we can't? Night City is supposed to be this dystopian, dark and gritty, sexualized city right? Then let it be! I'd hate to see where the Wheel of Bait & Switch lands next.

There's dropping the ball, and there's dropping a nuke on it afterwards.

The official response makes zero sense since you can still find completely nude npcs in game. Why would we have an arbitrary rule excluding our character from being nude. I even found an npc on jig jig street with a see thru red vinyl bottoms with clearly visible genitals

Sorry, I have no idea what you are tryin to say. Point is, full nudity in a AAA game on PC and console (outside US) is a thing. It has been done before. So obviously there's no reason CDPR wouldn't be able to do it. Period.

But seeing the unpolished state that the game is actually in, they probably didn't have any time to spend on making a "special" version for the US market, so they just censored everything...? Or maybe the rest of the world gets censored so the US gamers don't get super-pissed and instead everybody is just normal-pissed.
I was talking about AO rated games, nudity can still be shown also in an M rated games.

-GTA San Andreas was rated AO for interactive sex and censored worldwide on consoles.
-Manhunt 2 was rated AO for violence and censored worldwide on consoles.
-Fahrenheit was rated AO and then re rated M uncut.
-Agony was rated AO for sex and some baby killing and is censored worldwide for consoles.
-Outlast 2 was never rated AO but developers deleted some scenes to be sure to get an M rating (that's what happened with Cyberpunk), these scenes are only restored in the PC version with a free Steam update.
-Hatred rated AO for gratuitous violence and released for PC only cause consoles don't sells AO rated games.
-Basically all erotics, hentai and porn games are for PC only.

The only exceptions are:
-Leisure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude, rated AO for sex and released uncut also for consoles in EU. Censored only for US consoles.
-Conan Exiles like just a said
-Lust for darkness rated AO for sex and released uncut on EU switch store and Steam (worldwide), only US Switch version is cut.

In reply to your question: Major games seller and consoles societies doesn't accept AO rating, when the game is in development investors and publisher make a contract to devs where M is the highest rating allowed in order to sell it through mainstream channel. In case a game get the AO rating the game is censored before worldwide release, so the first released version that players can actually buy is the toned down M rated version and is the only version that investors and consoles accept to be sold. That M rated version is so the official version of the game and release the AO version is impossible until the contract with investors is still active, then developers could choose to release the game themselves or with another contract/publisher in its AO form but this is a second release and have a cost, also release an AO rated game have major taxes to pay. Other censored version like Japan ones with Cyberpunk for example aren't a second release because are all based on the M rated international version, so they only remain regionally censored. This also applies to movies.

One can look at it the other way around and I can most def say that the expectations from this game was sky high!

It might have been a marketing stunt, or perhaps the devs genuinely, and without any other hidden meaning, actually meant that the players can customize genitelia and view it in the inventory screen and thats IT!

And as usual, the media coverage can blow it out of proporsion, claiming and twisting things the devs have said, have you also thought about this?

Yes, I agree, the game has been cut, and rushed, and what not, its not a BAD game, but its not what we expected either way, and there are the other people in the category, the ones that had SOARING expectations of the game.....

Yes, you might be right, also it is plain as daylight that the game is not fully finished yet, that does not mean the game is censored by any means....

Also, not to preach, but CDPR might not actually want to have to their name, the most vile, and deboucherous game ever made....so that is also on the table...I dont remember very well but in TW3, besides the 3 main witches, and 1 brothel in the city..how many options for prostition were left?

[...]
I did not buy the game to be censored in what i can do in the game they might as well remove the nudity option in game settings its useless now.

Call it what you want, the way I see it it's just one more 'little lie' because it was real good PR for the game.
You don't miss something obvious like this before sending your copies to reviewers.
If this was a bug, it would've been patched out with or before the day one patch.

It came later, with 1.04 when the majority of players had plenty of hours logged. At that point, people are invested enough to not care and won't refund over a little detail.
More likely is they can't refund due to hours played.

This was not a bug but intentional, calculated misdirection.
But this is just my point of view.
Despite its flaws, bugs and missing content, I'm still playing the game.

I'm less upset by the bait-and-switch itself than I am with CDPR's apparent 'solution': a 'nudity toggle' that doesn't.

Censorship -- well, I suppose I'll just have to deal with that. It's an ongoing argument, and has been since the days of 'exposed ankles are pornographic!', and it's not going to be decided in a forum on the Internet.

What I take issue with is that a toggle that doesn't work, or only works half-way, effectively decides on my behalf that I am not allowed to make an informed decision.

You took that decision away from me, CDPR. You gave me a nudity toggle and then decided that I was not mature enough to choose for myself when to use it. Why, then, did you give it to us at all?

Arguments can be made, of course, for the influence of the ever-present 'SJW' (a term that I disagree with, for the record, but that's a discussion for another time), or that the ESRB will crash down on an AO-rated game (via a system that is not legally binding and is, in fact, entirely voluntary), but those arguments don't hold water when you consider that mature, responsible, semi-intelligent adults bought your product, and it's quite the insult to our intelligence and level of maturity to assume that you need to shepherd us through a 'sanitized' version of what is allegedly a very dystopian world.

You gave us a nudity toggle, CDPR, which means that someone over there knew that there was mature content in Cyberpunk 2077, and was confident that we could decide for ourselves whether or not to see it.

So, what changed between then and now?

Let the player, not a rating system, decide whether or not we want to access that content.
[/QUOTE]

This would be possibile if mainstream seller wouldn't impose their restrictive censorship rules and cloud gaming will also enhance this ESRB range.

1. How did you play 1.02? The game was already patched to 1.03 when it was released, far as I know.

2. You have a video of that or sth? I mean censoring nudity is one thing. But why would they cut that kind of stuff from the game? NPCs have said worse things in the main story. They could just have the same reaction when you run around with undies on...

It was on version 1.02 midnight GMT at release for steam users at least. the 1.03 patch applied to PC later that day (after work for me patch 1.03 was applied and no more nudity (strippers all suddenly no longer topless, adverts significantly toned down, etc...) Consoles never received the 1.03 patch and immediately went to 1.04 where they all lost their stuff.... the worst thing is see with this is that some of these changes apparently happened after release (after most people would have hit their 2 hour return window for steam...) So alot of this stuff came AFTER people read reviews based on the early version of the builds. the problem is nobody has any screenshots of this because people did not think they would need to evidence collect for changes that happened after release...

I completely agree with the author of this thread.

Please bring us back full nudity in first person mode, mirrors, photo mode, etc.
If someone doesn't like it, they can always turn nudity off in game censor option section.

I'm terribly disappointed with this state of affairs, it limits my freedom of choice.
Thank you for understanding, with best regards, Darielia.

So, I'm seeing a couple of threads every couple of hours since the official response from CD Projekt arrived regarding the "nudity bug". It isn't a bug as you can read here: Official response. All threads seem to be getting closed (don't close this one too, guys, please?), so I decided to open another but with a different tone. A suggestion, a petition.

What follows comes from a mature person that has a healthy relationship for years, so take it with moderation and not as a rant.

We have a mature game in our hands, filled with graphic violence, drugs, alcohol and sex. And yet, we can't take a shower naked and we can't look at our own junk while walking around naked in our own apartment. We can't take naked photos either.

Sure, okay, I can live with being forced to wear underwear once I leave my house, or even auto-equipping my last used gear once I leave my house, that would be fine. But omg... it's just so ridiculous that you allowed us to customize our characters at such sexual level only to see them spinning in our inventory! It's a non-sense, seriously.

This isn't a game breaking mechanic for me, but it sure is immersion breaking. After a certain mission, you wake up dizzy in the shower, looking at the floor and you see yourself wearing trunks (if male V), this totally broke the immersion for me. Up until this moment, I didn't really care that I wasn't able to see my dick when naked. Is not the necesity to see my own junk, it's the fact that a person doesn't get into the shower wearing underwear... and I'm sure you agree with this but you were forced to reduce the nudity during gameplay. There's no other explanation.

The combination of all of this with the fact that you promised the game would feature full nudity without any kind of censorship just really confuses me.

If consoles can't have it, fine, but my dudes.... you own your own platform... GOG and Steam is totally okay with nudity nowadays and adult games...

You made an inclusive game in which you can play as trans people, your NPC's dress like whatever they want, there seems to be no kind of inhibition or censorship, and yet and I can't... look at my own naked body....

Snif :(

Edit: I want another matter to the discussion. The prostitutes.

Why are there only two NPC's you can interact with to initiate sex? Isn't the whole city cramped with prostitutes or what? I don't really understand it.

For me the reason is more than obvious: censorship again. When you put ONLY two NPC's that you can interact with, far away from the main story and 1st moments of the game, you "hide" those NPC's.

Imagine if you were able to hook up with any prostitute during your first visit to Viktor's (main plot progression). That street is filled with prostitutes, yet you can't really have sex with anyone. Why? These prostitutes don't really act any different than the two that you can interact with, (the ones that are far away, hidden from main story) they would invite you to their place and that's it.

I'm 100% sure the original idea was for you to be able to initiate sex with any prostitute <is prostitute=true> and allow players to interact with them. Not so hard... and VERY easy to censor.

We were told that it would be a very mature game—that there’d be a lot of sexual content, etc etc, and with the absolute lack of content or what have you surrounding this, I find it to be misleading as all get out. From what I understand, the only time you see your member is during character creation, or through graphical bugs. You might as well either not put any investment into how it looks or just play with censored mode on, right? What is the point in having any of this if it doesn't have any effect in the areas you’d expect?

This just goes hand in hand with other cut content shown in other threads, in my opinion. And just another nail in the coffin, showing that they promised us this crazy, dark dystopian future that ends up being a nicer place than Chicago or Los Angeles.

But everything I’m saying has been said in other threads, I personally just want to make it known that I, too, am disappointed by how CDPR failed to deliver on its promise, yet I too am willing to give them the chance to fix it. I’ll wait until February to decide whether it’s worth buying any CDPR game in the future.

I'm less upset by the bait-and-switch itself than I am with CDPR's apparent 'solution': a 'nudity toggle' that doesn't.

On one hand I agree but by leaving this option (and the nude models, including physics etc.) in the game, CDPR made sure modders will have an easy time re-enabling the nudity in the game. Whatever reason CDPR had to censor the game, my gut tells me they are not happy with it either.

Throwing in my support for the OP. Please return the adult themes to this game. It was part of the reason why I bought it and the removal of that feels like a bait and switch.

I made this post in another thread that got lost in the sea of threads on this issue, but I think it needs to be posted here too:

It is kind of strange we live in a world where virtual decapitation is okay, but a vagina makes people cringe in terror. I saw the "you'll only be nude in character creation" coming tbh. I was surprised when we could still be fully nude in the inventory screen, and surprised even more when I could be fully nude in photo mode (day 1), especially on the ps4. But I wasn't surprised when they censored the nudity in photo mode and told us "that's how the nudity is intended". Yeah, bullshit.

If it wasn't intended how was I able to run around in my birthday suit the first few hours I played the game? Plain and simple proof. It was a censor patch.

Some big corpos got scared, and forced CDPR to patch in underwear as soon as they saw all those IDIOTIC streamers do character creation on live streams, without bothering to turn on the option that censors nudity, first chance they got. I'll bet any amount of money that's exactly what happened. Streamers like Pokimane and Pewdiepie have children watching their streams, and THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER. We got ninja censored because streamers are dumb and corpos just can't wait to censor anything over any excuse. They all want that Disney money, and they know the best way to do that is make everything milquetoast and censor as much as possible. Starting with nudity. So, we have the streaming community and big business to thank for this fiasco.

And... I'm sorry but the response was a joke. Anyone who played at launch knew CDPR never intended that we were forced to wear underwear outside of the inventory screen. They even made it to where children are removed from photo mode, as if they knew people would look at their characters nude with that function.

With all that being said, I saw the full nudity from multiple angles. Nobody is missing much, believe me. The vagina looks "ok" at best and the best angle is the straight on view you get in creation/inventory menu. I'm sure pc modders will be able to give people their private parts back, and make them look better.

In summary, I don't care about full nudity in photo mode, but I do hate censorship. And this was blatant censorship. No doubt in my mind.

Yep, I'm really pissed about this. To say its "working as intended" is a blatant lie. You can bug out the patch by switching pants really quickly and I certainly have seen full nudity in photo mode (with 1.04). You can also bug out the patch and end up being naked with no genitals at all (nor pants) in the mirror.

There are so many things that just aren't what were promised. I hate being lied to. The main menu nudity censor should be all the censorship required. There is certainly something else going on here and that just leads me to believe that the rest of what CDPR promise will be half-baked, as well.

I was strongly recommending this game to my friends but that won't happen, anymore. Not until they come clean and deliver on their promises.

I don't think underwear is a forced censorship. Devs choose to cover main character's genitals to avoid rating issues, it's self-censorship. Game never shown full nudity in photo mode or free roaming gameplay because it was intended to be so from the beginning. Maybe underwear were added later but nude characters looked like dolls before.

Did a couple of nude photos of my V (pants bug) to remember how it was, before they censor it completely.

I was playing on ps4 at launch and you could be fully nude in photo mode. The 1.03 patch ninja'd censorship in.
