Its all about the FOV. Novigrad would look as good if not better if we zoomed into Geralt and played from the perspective shown in the trailers.

Geralt is closer to you when you enable senses,
I would like when you enable senses (cam goes to first person view and back when you disable it to closer perspective)
but that means fighting multiple opponents would be hard

Totally agree
Novigrad has to be the most disappointing change from the trailers

I wish you guys would go into detail, for all I see is:

1) A tree is missing
2) The crowd at the fish market is smaller.
3) No greenish tint. While I like the almost monochromatic appeal of the E3 2013 shot, I also appreciate the broader colour palette in the latest footage.

No sign of a downgrade here.

The image look definitely less atmospheric, and really really washed out. The colors, they look like plastic. There's no dark-and-gritty-Witcher feel to it

You're talking about a stylistic change, not a downgrade. There's a difference.

So...in your opinion this pic:

is better then this one?

There's no sign of downgrade.

But "atmposphere" is subjective. You can't say that there is a downgrade if your argument is based on your personal taste.

The new vibrant Novigrad is way better than green filters and oversharpened textures.

They changed the lighting and removed the sharpening.

Each to their own, frankly I think Novigrad looks much, much better now in comparison to that initial shot. I prefer the more natural lighting and softer feel without the sharpening.

To some extent, yes.
In specific I think the image is the best that squeezed out of the gameplay demo, and still I think the trailer image look much better. Why? because of the feel. The trailer image has the dark-Witchery feel to it, and the gameplay image has more plastic-Disneyland feel. I prefer heavy color-filtered dis-saturated visuals than vibrant over-lighten visuals.

Of course, these are all opinions here.

What does "oversharpened" means?

To me the much sharper detailed style from older screens look a lot better than those with softened/blured textures. However I still like current look.

I think that different lighting hue is a result of time of the day (second is noon, hues need to be more saturated and bright) and weather conditions. No woories, in a stormy evening you'll get what you want. They really need to show environment/daylight system to us.

One significant change I see though is DOF (depth of field) in far distance - probably to reduce load on the renderer by using low res textures.

I would be ok either way. It made TW2 look unique, but it was kind of overdone in some areas. I don't know what they were thinking with the lightning textures in the Kayran lair, but I think the game looked beatiful especially with ubersampling. Wonder why they removed the sharpening though. Was it an artistic decision?

I think this shot from the trailer looks pretty close to the effects in the SOD trailer

Seriously you don't know that and you try to post in graphic oriented thread ?
Really you should learn something about rendering and graphic features of modern engines

EDIT
here is better comparison of novigrad, both pics are from uncompressed videos

good that tint, and sharpening filter is gone, keep in mind that this is still work in progress

Some posts have just been deleted, and I'd like to remind everyone not to respond to differences of opinion by making personal attacks.
Actions have consequences.

@ilayoeli - sharpening is a technique in photography and CGI to enhance edges. If done correctly, it improves the focus and clarity of the image. If done too much, it makes the image look unrealistic and cluttered.

«kiddies»?
Please, spare me the condescending remarks, will you?

You don't get to decide what's to be discussed, when it's to be discussed and how it's to be discussed since the topic at hand doesn't violate forum rules. That gigantic starwman you erected isn't scaring any crows away, you know: no one here claims or acts as if games are just about graphics. Next time around, take the time and bother to make sure your claims are accurate.
