Swords and forging

i have 5 runes now and i am in chapter 4 and i have yet to find a blacksmith that will reforge my silver sword. also when i had 3 pieces of blue meteorite i paid to have some guy reforge my witcher steel sword and i had to sell it and basically rebuy it but it wasnt any better...whats the point of reforging swords/weapons again?

Patience, balance and the lady of the lake make for a better silver sword anyway... (hint hint, otherwise just wait till you have 3 yellow runes that's the best one before it or if you missed it)

Please be more descriptive, there are 10 mini-quests done in almost any order, so list all things you did to obtain all but this last one and someone can figure which one you need to finish for it, or search.

Below is a link to a map of the swamp that shows you the location of all the stones in the swamp http://guides.gamepressure.com/thewitcher/guide.asp?ID=3655

How is this done?I just finished the game without ever working it out.Whenever I tried to have someone reforge my sword, all that came up was their shop. Also, I never figured out how to use Runes either... I tried using them the same way as oils/etc, but that didn't work.

You must have 3 parts of metrorite, then you can ask the smith to do the sword - new sword. You need quite much money to buy the new sword which is made for you.The same with the runes - you need three of them, then the smith can use them on the sword.

When I select 'Forge Weapon' from an armorsmith, I can buy a meteorite sword, but have not figured out how to reforge. What am I missing?

you need to have three pieces of meteorite ore, then a sword just appears in the blacksmith's inventory. If you buy it, it replaces your old steel sword. That's all that can be done, there is no special "reforge" function or possibility.

Does that mean if you've 'forged' a new sword, you can sell your old one to him?

Yes, with steel swords you can sell the old one if you don't want it.Silver reforging / branding replaces the old sword.

Yes, that's right, you just talk to the dwarf ( not his apprentice ) and must have all the 3 meteorite rocks in your inventory as well....then for some money the meteorite sword is all yours !! ;)What I would like to ask you guys is probably noob, but...how better is this sword to your old metal sword ? I mean, in my last metal sword I've used about some 3 of that stone, sorry don't remember the name, to make it more sharp or smt like that....so the meteorite sword is really worth ?Thanks !

Actually, what I found for the steel sword is that if I first sell my Witcher sword and the meteorite pieces, I can buy the meteorite sword for much less. As an example, I get 60 orens for my sword, 60 orens for each blue piece of meteorite, and 100 orens for the red meteorite. That is 260 orens and I pay 700 orens for the meteorite sword. Nice discount.

Really ?? I thought that you needed to have thel 3 meteorite stones in your inventory to be able to ask the dwarf for the meteorite one....so if you can sell the stones to him why do you need to have 3 meteorite stones at all ???

My guess is that your inventory is read when you initiate the conversation. If you have the proper ingredients, the armorer's stock changes to match. Just a guess, mind you...

I'm not really sure how to use the blacksmiths, or rather I don't know how to interpret the blacksmithing and the benefits of the new swords versus the originals.I still have my original Witcher weapons, steel and silver. I found a good sword in the swamp. I really only want to have two swords so that I can pick up anything good that I find. But the meteorite weapons that the blacksmith forges are not described as being usable in Witcher combat styles. Are they usuable for Witcher combat moves? Would it be better to trade in my witcher steel for a meteorite sword, or sell my Witcher sword and just keep the one I found in the swamp and later trade that one in for a better one when it comes along?

All swords can be used with Witcher techniques. You can even use the "wrong" sword, such as steel techniques with a silver sword. So yeah. The only thing you have to check to be sure which moves to use, is whether a sword counts as steel or silver.

Oops sorry, my mistake. Was sorta thinking of hitting humans/monsters with the wrong sword, and must have typed in a brain-fry.

I've got an Earth rune but can't seem to get any of the blacksmiths to forge it into my silver sword. Do you need 3 of them like w/ the steel sword?

Just sell them. Before you get enough to make a decent sword you'll have found one of the ultra-sweet swords you get from completing major quests.
