Tabletop RPG Witcher Gaming.

Tabletop RPG Witcher Gaming.

So, I know there is a Polish Tabletop RPG Game which is not going to be released in English. I'm referring to using an existing Tabletop RPG to run a game set in The Witcher 'Verse.

With that said, I was considering picking up one of the various game guides (maybe the Prima one), and using it for information on the various monsters, people, places, and magic in the world of the witcher; possibly supplemented by material from the wiki. How much of such information is in the game guides? Do any of you guys have one of them which has lots of information on the World of The Witcher, that you might suggest to me?

I would probably want to use Chaosium's Magic World or OpenDesign's RuneQuest 6th Edition to play in a Witcher game. D&D 3.5, D&D 5, and Pathfinder would all have too different a feeling from what I picked up playing the first game, and what I've been reading about the second, and have watched about the third.

Alternately, have any Witcher fans here run a tabletop game set in the World of The Witcher? What resources did you use to do it, and how did it go?

And another one:

As for the Prima guides, I couldn't tell you. But I suspect those are more focused on the game and it's story rather than overall lore. Information on the World of the Witcher book is limited, or to put it better, close to none.

I'd say your best source for lore is the wiki (http://witcher.gamepedia.com/Witcher_Wiki).

Hmm.

That's good for including a Witcher type character in a regular Pathfinder game, but not quite so helpful for running a game set in the witcher's world; doesn't address the purpose of this thread, but I may have a use for that at some point. :)

Hmm. the AD&D stuff in there wasn't all that helpful, however, at the end of the thread, someone linked to this Which looks to be much more helpful. Even has a good sized bestiary to go with it! It seems to be mostly rules focused, but even if I'm not using GURPS for my game, having a big GURPS bestiary with statistics would save me time coming up with stats for the monsters in another system.

Hmm. Well, I am still interested in hearing about the contents of the Prima Guides, if anyone else happens to have them.

Oh, I hadn't realized that was a thing. I am looking forward to it thus far. Hopefully it is good.

Oh, I was unfamiliar with that Wiki. I only knew about the Wikia Wiki. I will definitely check that out. :)

Yeah, it's a book aimed to release around the time Witcher 3 comes out. Seems rather interesting:

The Wikia Wiki is the old one, due to some problems with the wikia staff all the people that kept the Witcher Wiki up to date moved to gamepedia. So old one might be a bit out of date at this point, since I don't know if anyone tends to it anymore.

If you want to talk with that Grunkerman bloke about his version of GURPS Witcher I believe he's on the Codex.

Thanks guys. I'll keep my eye out for that World of the Witcher book. maybe I'll preorder it on Amazon.

Haha. Yeah;

Big Bang theory is amusing. I usually play RPGs with my girlfriend and a couple of college buddies. The bit from Big Bang Theory isn't in any way an accurate depiction of D&D, but its close enough that you could get the basic idea.

There are many other options besides D&D's dungeon crawling fantasy games though. There are sword and sorcery games, scifi games, cyberpunk games, pulp games, kung-fu movie type games, film noir type games, various historical games (ancient china/japan. vikings, knights, pirates, musketeers, mobsters, modern day soldiers, etc), there's a couple of X-files type games, super heroes, giant robots, urban fantasy (supernatural/dresden files), you name it. Some are narrative talky things, and some are more like miniatures wargaming.

I remember playing in a game where everyone else had giant robots. I decided I'd rather be a fighter pilot. I couldn't take a hit like the guys in the robots could, and my guns/missiles weren't quite as good, but that didn't matter much because I was so much faster, and was almost always out of range when the guys in robots turn came around.

Oh I don't know if I would go that far about its accuracy. True, it looks more like they're playing Heroquest, but DM's have leeway in how they run the game. One of the guys I used to play with was rather like Howard in that clip. There were very few of us PnP'rs back in the day here, I remember a convention of ~200 people. When I think back I consider Paranoia to have been the most fun, but I regularly played D&D, Warhammer & 40k, MERP, and probably all the rest once or twice. Happy days, great fun :)
