Terrible framerate in Ch.1 crypts

I am having serious framerate drops in the Chapter 1 crypts. I have been to the crypts before and it was just fine but when I returned the second time to kill Ozzrel the framerate drops to the single digits and it becomes absolutely unplayable. Right now I have only had this problem in the crypts. I have tried loading different saves but it doesn't seem to fix it. Sometimes it will fix itself after a bit but the moment I cast a spell or kill an enemy it suddenly drops again and stays that way. This is the first time I have encountered the problem. Is there any way to fix it?

I have the same problem like you. Try the following:

Go to Folders\The Witcher\saves\
Delete ALL the save datas, EXCEPT the Normal Save Data(Normal I mean, when you go to the main menu to save this game manually, NOT F5 or any other stuff).
Then somewhere in the game option, there's the option to DISABLE the Autosave.

Take a little break time and save it within this game with Normal saving...

Good Luck

You might try the following . It`s known as the IFO module error but also works for the most part for unexpected framerate drops . Also note that it has to be followed to the letter to work .

Cannot load module - invalid IFO file .

The issue is the one known as the IFO module error, you get that error when trying to to change zone (mostly in chapters 2 and 3).
To fix this, you need to make some manipulations, first, if you are under XP, go to my computer, get on your C drive, open the tools menu -> Folder options, View tab. In there, look for "Hidden files and folders", click on show hidden files and folder. Next look for "Hide protected operating system files", uncheck it.
If you are under Vista, go to the control panel and look for folder option, the rest of the procedure is the same : View tab. In there, look for "Hidden files and folders", click on show hidden files and folder. Next look for "Hide protected operating system files", uncheck it.

Now, start the game, and load your savegame ( normal savegame, not quick or auto ). Once it is loaded, press ALT-Tab to get out of the game, go to the following folder:
Windows XP/2003: C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\The Witcher\temp\saves\
Windows Vista/7: C:\User\\AppData\Local\The Witcher\temp\saves\
In that folder, delete all the files that end with the .SAV extension.

Then go back in the game, move around a bit, save your game and reload it. Hopefully your problem is now solved .
