Changing the filename of C:\Windows\SysWoW64\acaptuser32.dll worked, but I hope that I am not breaking my Adobe Acrobat. Needless to say, I'll change it back once I'm done playing...every single time. I am running Windows 7 HP 64-bit, with the Steam version of TW2, Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and Kaspersky PURE 9.1.0.124, which is the latest version. I noticed that Kaspersky displayed an error message that said the Witcher2.exe was behaving like a PDM keylogger or something like that so I hope that this is fixed in the next version of PURE and I can play without a problem.

I would try naming it to acaptuser32.bak and then try Adobe immediately after changing it to see if it still works . You should be able to add an exception in Kaspersky PURE .

Actually all you need to do is update to the KIS 2012 . Did you have a subscription to KIS that`s still valid ?

Well, I recently bought Witcher 2 via Steam, and now I got the same problem, which is really frustrating as I cant get my money back. I tried out all of the solutions in the sticky, nothing helped.

It would seem that there is something either on your system that is causing the game not to start or something not quite right with your system . Could you list your system specs .

Of course. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium Edition.
Got Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz, 2666 MHz, and Nvidia Geforce GTX 275 (pretty old already, yeah, but as far as I got that Witcher 2 should still run with it.) And an ST31000528AS ATA Device, with 931 GB.

Well, what I've read, tools like Daemon Tools are making trouble with Witcher 2 as well. I got Deamon Tools, but deleted it already (with reboot of course), but it didnt help either.

Didnt try to reinstall Witcher 2 though... since its so big and I download with ~800kb/s, it takes a while...

Yeah, three times now. He always says theres 1 File missing, and when I try to launch The Witcher 2 he installs Microsoft NET Framework (or actually he tries to repair it.) (I have no idea why, I also deleted it and reinstalled it on my own, but I've got the feeling he's not that happy with it.)

And then he tries to install Microsoft VC Redist Package (he always tries to install this one when I start the Launcher, I have no idea why.)

This has been reported before as an issue with the Steam version as in some continual download of a 800 kb File and everytime W2 is started the whole process repeats itself over and over again . I don`t know if a solution has been found yet but will do my best to see if i can come up with something and will post it here .

I guess I am just another steam user here with the same problem. Bought from Steam 27 Nov and they do not issue refunds :(

I have Kapersky Internet 2012 (12.0.0.374)

My Launcher read me file: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings v. 2.1 ReadMe file

My Specs are:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium - ~Service Pack 1
Prooccesor: Intel i7 930
RAM: 6gb
System Type: 64 Bit OS
ATI Radeon HD 5870

I tried solutions here:

http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26150-patch-21-issues/

- but these did not work. I do not have adobe acrobat extender pro - only adobe acrobat reader

I do not have the .dll files metioned either which seem to have caused problems for others.

Spent a few hours with clean boot method to try and nail down if any other software was causing issues - none were.

Tried many repairs and unistall / reinstalls of .NET 4

Has anyone done this does it work with Steam?
http://en.thewitcher.com/support/#q10

Was also given this from Steam Support, unfortunately these did not work either / some were very technical:

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

If you are running in Windows Vista or Windows 7, please completely exit Steam, and right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam and select "Run as Administrator."

If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps:

1) Exit Steam.
2) Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK".
3) Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
4) Right click and select "Permissions"
5) Check the "Allow" boxes for "Admin" and "System" for both "Full control" and "Read".

The remaining steps apply to *all* versions of Windows.

Then, verify the game's files at least once:

Title: Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF)
Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

NOTE: There may be files that fail to validate. This is normal and can be ignored.

If the issue persists, you may also need to manually run secondary installers required by this game.

First, exit Steam entirely.

Please download and install the latest DirectX update, available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

Also, please download and install the latest version of PhysX, available here:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_system_software.html

Then, please install the latest Visual C++ run-time components, as described in the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259403

If you have not already done so, please install the following .NET framework software packages:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en
-and-
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b386f32c0992&displaylang=en

You may also try the steps outlined in the "Games do not run after 'Preparing the Launch' FAQ:
http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6218-USFX-5568

If the issue persists and this game is not made by Valve, further support for this title is handled by a third party support department:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_cat.php?id=87 . Otherwise, please reply to this ticket if you still require assistance.

I also have a Steam version of the Witcher 2 and am receiving this error. I've tried everything in the sticky and in this thread. I've asked for advice from Steam and gotten nothing sadly. None of the files or programs people said may be interfering have been installed on my computer. I've installed/uninstalled/repaired .Net probably 8 times now. I've tried running Steam as an admin and trying a clean boot as well. None of this has helped =(

I'm running Windows 7 from Bootcamp on a quadcore iMac (which has never caused me problems with any software).

I'd really love to be able to play what I hear is a phenomenal game. Any additional assistance? Thanks.

For what it's worth, I get the famous error, as well. I uninstalled lucid virtu and the game ran. Reinstalled virtu and got the error again.

Lame. It is what it is, though.

Is there some other program besides Lucid Virtu, Adobe, and Kaspersky that could be causing this problem? Perhaps there's some equivalent program that I have since none of the listed programs are on my computer...

I know a ton of people have this problem and i guess im part of "That ton of people".

I do not have Kaspersky, Acrobat, or LucidVirtu on my comp. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times with administrator rights, etc. I have done the manual install of net.frame technique. I have also done the clean boot and tried to load up the game and get the same error still. I am currently at work so i dont have my specs but i will post them when i get home today. I can also post dxdiag if needed. What i do know is that i am running windows 7 ultimate, i-7 @ 2.8ghz, 8gb Ram DDR3, Nvidia N550gtx TI (w/ 1gb virtual ram). I have 2 HDs one is 1TB other is 500mb.

I have all my windows files updated (just did it 3 days ago). I have my antivirus updated (AVG which was disabled when doing anything with the game; installing, running, etc) All my drivers are up to date as well, including my Mobo Drivers. I'm pretty patient and good at troubleshooting with some knowledge of computers but cannot get my finger around this one. I have the steam version of the game. Steam will automatically download the 2.1 patch and i have not come up with anyway to stop that and just load 2.0 patch. Is there anyway to do that? To reinstall the game and only patch up to 2.0 with steam? I know everyone has this problem right now but after checking the forums it seems like this problem has been going on since around the end of November and it is almost January. Taking this long to fix it? must be one heck of a bug. If any users/devs/moderators have any other ideas for me to try please reply here, I am willing to try almost anything. Thanks!

At present there is no way to stop the update to 2.1 as that`s the way it` downloaded and installed unless you were on a version prior to 2.1 and stopped the auto updating feature beforehand . I`m pretty sure it`s a software compatibility issue with the 2.1 patch . I have started a thread with some additional fixes i have found with this error and it`s limited to browser toolbars so far and 1 additional software . Seems to be issues with certain BHO`s (Browser Helper Objects)and or toolbars which may contain malware or spyware . The Google and Yahoo toolbars are ok but it`s the additional ones that remain a concern as there is no way i can check all of them .

Thanks Tommy! I know your life must be really frustrating right now, lol. I dont have any toolbars at my home comp. (I never really liked the whole toolbar thing). i even took off the google one. If there is anything you can think of from now until whenever just let me know... I'll check the forums and also continue working on troubleshooting. Im a bit of a problem solver so I would like to help out and see if i discover anything as well. I mean im doing it for my own personal reaons (i wanna play the game!!) but the more people working on it, the better. So if you think of anything let me know... when i get home i'll post full dxdiag and full specs maybe you'll notice something in there thats not right!

Thanks again!
