Okay this is what i looked at... after reviewing the Stick Post about the Lucid Virtu (which i dont have) i realized that i still have some form of software from Lucid... Mine was called HydraLogix... in the programs list u can see if you have software by Lucid if the Maker is "Lucid Technologies TM" or something of that nature. I uninstalled that and TAADAA!!! the game loaded... !! haven't even played yet, just know that i did not get the Error Message... SO pass that info along... let CD Projekt know that they need to look into Hydra Chip/ GPU controller software... as i feel thats the culprit!

I`m sure that was the culprit . The Hydralogix was suppose to be able to make a windows system be able to use any combination of dual video cards run in a "hybrid" system . Except that a true hybrid system uses both cards from the same manufacturer similar to SLI but different whereas the Hydralogix software allowed the use of both Nvidia and ATI/AMD cards in the same system . Decent concept but with varied results when it came to actual use . Also of note is that the software was shipped with various motherboards and vendors . Yes the only way to see if you have Lucid products would be to go to add/remove programs in windows XP and programs and features in Vista and 7

Uninstalling a toolbar and program from ilivid fixed it for me.

I gotta say i havent started Witcher 2 for some time cause my kids played their games for months now. I just tried last week and nothing. Read forums and tried all that u sad and nothin. Reinstalled whole system and steam game and nothin ( I havent installed anythin but the games and drivers ). Then i went to my brother who has retail box version and we tried again nothin. What ever i tried no luck. I am using ESET SS but even if i have payed it 50 euros i decided after clean install not to install any antivir just to be sure. Again is this ever going to be fixed or did PC gamin turned into FRAUD like everythin else in this world. Please someone say somethin cause i even wrote to CDPR and i am loosin my patience cause after all this work around still doesent work. I want a working game that i fully payed on release 50 euros. I dont want someone to f.... with me cause it is preety hard to earn money today especially when you live in poor country. Thank you.

Can you start by listing system specs including mother board . Another thread you might look at if you haven`t already is this one . http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/26411-additional-fixes-for-21-issues-and-142-error-or-witcher-2-stopped-working/ . Also i know you reinstalled your system but is the OS and all software up to date ? So far all instances of Witcher 2 not working has been a software compatibility issue .

I must say again. I bought game upon release. I didnt have any i mean any problem. Not even a glitch. I havent been playin for a while.
When my kids werent near PC all i had time for is a quick match in MW3 or somethin like that. I didnt had time for a while. Now that all the hollidas were over and kids started school i got time in the afternoon after work but as you know whole last week and weekend nothin. I also must underline that i love steam and achivements is the whole point of playin for me. That is what makes it interestin.

You`re motherboard has the Z68 chipset or should have anyway . Try looking in installed programs for anything from Lucid Technology and uninstall or try the following .

The 32-bit version of appinit_dll.dll, which is a part of Lucidlogix Virtu, GPU virtualization software which comes with some motherboards like e.g. ASRock Z68. Appinit_dll.dll can be found in (...)Lucidlogix Technologies\VIRTU\x86\ folder.
The 32-bit appinit_dll.dll which is a part of Hydralogix drivers and can be found in (...)Lucidlogix Technologies\HYDRALOGIXx86\ folder causes the same problem.

For your brothers computer i think he has the Easy Tune 6 software installed by uninstalling Easy Tune 6 Witcher 2 may work .

Thx for reply. I already looked for all and there was nothin like that on my system.
I never use driver disc for install. I alwayse use manuall install
and very rear are times wheen i install such stuff like oveclockin things. On brothers machine we read about easytune and removed it
but no luck still the same. We use Revo Uninstaller Professional if that helps. For completely removin software from
hdd and registry. Plus we removed daemon tools cause i saw that there was a problem with emulation software.
And Acrobat was removed from machine but i never had that file in question. I have Acrobat 10 ( from company i work for ). And i gotta ask cause i recieved email from the developers sayin there is NO ISSUE WITH THE PATCH. THE PATCH WORKS PERFECTLY!!! Is someone kidding me?
Are they even going to care about this problem or not? I mean this is a serious issue.
Plus they told me to write on email tw2support@thewitcher.com in future. That is this place right?

Tommy thx for helping me. I am happy to inform u that i made progress in starting the game. Since i didnt have any toolbar i started deleting all the browsers that i use. Google chrome and Firefox (need them for work ) then i noticed that i am half way to loading the game then the same error appears. I was watchin the progress of loading in taskmanager. I decided to totaly strip browsers. I did some temperin with Internet explorer 9 degrading him a lot. i finally made it. The game starts and i played for 30 min and no problems. I restarted and started again and all was well. I didnt even need to put steam or any file on administrator usage. Once again thank you for giving care in my problem.

Glad you got it going . To note Adobe Acrobat Reader is ok to use . The adobe program that doesn`t work is Adobe Acrobat Extended Pro 9 . I should also have mentioned that some search engines also create havoc with Witcher 2 . Usually it`s search engines that are installed with toolbars . I use Google Chrome and also have Firefox installed as well and have no issues with the game .

If you want you can reinstall the game and patch to 2.0 then after the 2.0 installation go to your install directory and open the Witcher 2/bin folder and right click the witcher2exe and send to desktop then run the game from the new shortcut and you should not be bothered with anything wanting to update .

You know, this is funny because I see that this has been an issue since November and with the Enhanced edition there has been no change. This is extremely frustrating because I gave up trying to get this to work and decided to wait till the Enhanced edition. And it's still an issue?

I have lucidlogix installed because of my motherboard. I would rather not uninstall the app. Is there no alternative?

Update - Uninstalling lucidlogix fixes the issue but it would be great to know if there are intentions to fix the issue

Yeah I was hoping for a fix also. Mine is the Adobe Acrobat Issue, it just annoying to keep having to modify the file each time I want to play. It also messes with Photoshop if you don't change it back.

I seem to have the Lucid Virtu version of this issue. The problem is if I uninstall the Lucid software my computer will hang and freeze. Reading through this thread I find myself saddened that this problem (which has been around for some time it seem) doesn't have a proper fix. With all the work that went into creating the Enhanced Edition I'm surprised this issue still remains :\
