The changing face of the world

Amazing how we all are a part of some community on the internet. It's interesting how we let the web be a part of our lives and enrich them a little more. I'm fascinated by the changing dynamics of human interaction and how we let it define our lives in some small, or large degrees.

What do you all think? :)

this is like everything in life, depends more on the use you give to the object not the object itself. Internet is a communication Tool else , but the real communication is that both sender and receiver are able to listen to each other. From this point of view, I had no problems inserting Internet in my life as I do with books, phone, my car, etc..

I think that the internet opens up national borders and you can just talk/agree/disagree with people from the other side of the world, which is a really interesting thing in my opinion. :)

... don't know about the "enriching" part :)

To me, the internet is just a medium, nothing more, nothing else, and just like any other medium, brings positives and negatives with it. I don't know that, if my job didn't require the internet, I'd use it as much as I use it on non-job related activities... I am a unix engineer and nothing that I work on is even on my zip code, or city for that matter. I will say I am very efficient in what I do, and some activities require I sit and watch/wait, so I do have lots of "free" time gaps during work, and since I still need to be sitting in front of my computer, I turn to the internet to kill time.

It's interesting how similar everyone is once they're sitting in front of a computer. It's strange, kind of like we all live in some kind of internet country where we share a culture. Maybe if we got politicians addicted to the internet we'd finally have world peace?

Whether or not that'd be worth the lolcat campaign ads is another matter entirely. "I can haz re-election?"

I think that'd get into history as the "Best political campaign in the XXI. century". ;)

I think forums are certainly a plus on the web, in their traditional sense. But anything that "mediates" reality between yourself and the world is a cause for concern. The radio did it, the tv did it, and the web does it, though it's hard to measure exactly how. But this super-connectivity with laptops, mobiles and other gadgets really has one logical conclusion and it is moving away from reality once the technology is advanced enough. The technological singularity is by no means disputed, the only real discussion lies in whether it will happen in 50, 100 or more years. But yeah, all trends point to a chip in our heads sometime in the future, and the social divide this will cause.
