Strange, I thought the animation/movement were very Morrowind-like, with UI and key bindings just like in Skyrim, save it for the necessary changes to accommodate the MMO abilities. I should mention that I play exclusively in third person because I get headaches otherwise.

I attempted to re-create my Skyrim character, so I went with the Dominion (since I play an Altmer). It looked kind of... not very thought out? The architecture was kind of nice, but there were random palm trees everywhere and it seemed very empty, the style not so cohesive... (screenshots: one, two[/url). Mind you, I played for only two or so hours, because it was at my brother's place and he was having a mini-party, so most of it was spent just wandering around, getting derailed and talking about TES3-5, and other people asking me to do dumb things like jump off high ledges. I played a Nightblade and it was fun enough, didn't really have much interest in the more classic mage or warrior roles. The combat was extremely clunky and yes, unsatisfying.

I'm a bit sad I didn't get to listen to the stories more closely, because that's usually my favourite part, but then I kind of wanted to flip tables at seeing a Thalmor Khajit. Did they miss the part where the whole point of Thalmor is that they are racist fucks who want everyone else dead so they can ascend into godhood? I know TESO is ~based on~ TES, but damn they could at least get some of the more important things right.

I think they're going with an interpretation that the 2nd Era Thalmor are not the same as the 4th Era Thalmor. I heard there was a different faction in the Dominion that are more like the present-day Thalmor. In fairness, Tiber Septim's use of Numidium against Summerset Isles and then his ascension to deity, and then the eventual fall of Crystal-Like-Law taking with it any hope of the Altmer attaining ascendance the way they always had hoped to- all these things are enough to radicalize a group that started out just as a legitimate political faction.

2ooo or 1ooo years before the Oblivion Crisis I keep forgetting which, plenty of time for those calling themselves Thalmor to change, perfectly normal cultural evolution. I haven't encountered anything so annoying in the lore, even look forward to seeing some things like the ~dozen Khajit subspecies they'll have in, and the Mane.

Joined a guild last weekend, all the usual guild tools plus the extras for PVP... Fort capture, Cyrodil resources held, siege engine building, all looks like they envision pvp being a major part of the game. In keeping with the minimalist interface it seems making your own Guild Tabards (which also displays your Alliance) is how we will recognise & differentiate people. Actually this is one of the more subtle things I like about the game, the player is no longer spending upwards of half their effort watching the interface (timers, cooldowns, buffs, nameplates), your attention is all on the world & that is where you get your information.

PVP really is a lot of fun, and while not everyones cup of tea, not even my favourite thing, Cyrodil is basically an open world pvp server - even a mild sandbox as you can capture & build structures - there are pve quests you can do (in Dungeons shared with everyone else who enters for that added tension).

There were zergs roaming ofc, it seems it takes 200 people in close proximity to cause lag, but I witnessed small groups withstanding much larger forces thanks to terrain & siege engines. The map is also massive, and while I can't make any definitive judgements about it yet, I think this aspect looks very promising indeed. It really looks like there may be more than one overwhelming way to win. Watch at least 10-20 minutes of this beta pvp vid and you will see what I mean.

Final beta this weekend. Chance to test the Euro megaserver (and no offense to my American friends, I am sorry we can't all play together, but our mmo servers have better community chat :p).

It's a new build, probably get a real feel of the final game now, and with the recent TW3 bad news I'm rethinking joining at launch, at least I reckon I'll be playing this year not next.

There are beta keys out there available now, If anyone else finds themselves in and wants to join a guild, let me know.

Should you pre-order Elder Scrolls Online?
The beta events are almost over. The launch is under a month away. It’s time to decide: are you in or out on Elder Scrolls Online. Let’s help you make up your mind.

Has there been any announcments as to when there will be one? I just got a good enough PC to run the game, but it won’t be here to play the PC beta.

I hope it's not against the rules for me to bring this thread back to life (potentially)

But I was wondering if anyone else here plays ESO? My friend bought it for me about a year ago as a birthday present but I never really was interested/struggled to get into it properly but I've been playing it a lot for the last few days and I've really been enjoying it. I bought the Thieves Guild DLC which so far has been fun, and I'm really looking forward to the Dark Brotherhood DLC which is meant to be out on the 31st. Since the Thieves Guild and DB are always my favourite quests in Elder Scrolls games I hope DB will be good in ESO too.

If anyone else does play it, let me know, I need more people to join me in dungeon crawling and boss fights :)

I played it when it was on trial a little bit. But then I was not able to find the time for it (I was trying out other MMOs at the time, and ESO was very weak in comparison). I heard that it improved itself immensely since those times though. If I find the time I might try it out. Finding the time for an MMO will be tricky though :)

My flatmate (who was a subscriber since the beginning until fairly recently) tells me that it has improved a lot since it was first released.

It's definitely a bit confusing at first, figuring out the crafting systems and everything, and the game doesn't give you that much instruction, but once you get the hang of it it's a lot of fun.
I also think I was initially put off because I started with the Ebonheart Faction, which imo is the least fun at the beginning. The Covenant has been great though, I've been playing that on my own and although it's got plenty of your typical MMO fetch quests, there are at least enough decent plot points and RPG decisions to be made that make things interesting.

I patched it recently and logged back in..

While the detail in the quests is above and beyond (there's usually 1/2 a dozen or more npcs which talk to you before during and after the quest with something different to say)...

I find it so unimmersive.. it feels like a real life theme park does compared to reality.. everything in the world is so obviously a set piece.. there's nothing organically placed at all.. even the professionalism of the mentioned npc's feel like they're well paid amusement park actors rather than some sort of actual fantasy world.

As much as i want to for the story every time i log in it keeps getting me how artificial the place is.

Idk I don't generally find Bethesda games very immersive. If anything this game has higher immersion than Skyrim and Oblivion because NPCs react to your armour and whether you're wearing a costume.

Sadly it seems to be lacking npc reactions to race (something Skyrim desperately needed more of) but since it's an MMO I hope over time this is something they might address.
