...HURTFUL!

possibytrue

Actually, Kel and I decided to skip the Red Quarter of Bangkok or whatever it's called. We wandered around the city for awhile one night - it's beautiful - but maybe we're too old. I'm not against the idea of the trade, carried out by fully-aware professionals, and I'm for legalizing and regulating it where present, but the reality just seems too...pathetic to me.

Still. Body glitter, you say?

We are going back to SE Asia, absolutely. We really liked it and there is so goddamn much to see. In five weeks, we stayed only a few days anywhere, except 6 days on Koh Jum, and tried to do as much as we could. Still fell way short. Plus, I'd like to spend a whole lot more money in Cambodia.

Lol, kay, kay, I'll dial it back to like 5 or something. Snofun.

Well, if you're going down that way again, maybe try something different? Christmas Islands sound fun just for the name. Or maybe Philippines ;)

Heey, here's a fun way to decide- travel roulette: pick five nice places and one not so nice place, and you have to go where ever destiny decides.

HOLD THE PHONE, it's the 20th. That means Magrunner is up for dl!

Crap not yet.

Nice video Sard, and yes, a truly amazing place.I'm just slightly horrified at the idea that there are places on this planet that we have both visited, paths that we have both trod. Bangkok, Angkor Wat, who knows how many others there could be?

I've been to Bangkok. Amazing. And amazingly smelly. And loud.

Did you get to Chiang Mai when you were in Thailand? I liked their wats.

The problem with Angkor Wat is that bloody awful tourist town next to it. I'm fully in favour of locals squeezing every last cent out of rich foreign tourists, but there were far too many restaurants selling truly awful food.

And I really, really don't think any of you would find anything enjoyable in the Philippines. Best avoided.

So how would one discern the awful food from the authentic food? Not joking, really wondering how to be a savvy tourist.

I got to Chaing Mai, yes. And some village where I was the only westerner around for days. No one knew english, no english signs and man do I stand out over there. I was missing Bangkok at that point. What's the name of the outdoor market that has the red light district? The ladies are all lined up and holding numbered cards. I'm browing for shirts and grub and BAM, there they are. Trippy.

Siem Riep is the town beside AW. We liked it. We stayed at Hak's House, highly rated. We had a local guide recommended to us by my wife's wide-travelling bosses. He was great. The food he took us to was excellent, actually. As good or better than Thai. I like Cam food a bit better, Kelly preferred Thai.

Phnom Penh was also very interesting. And the traffic was hilarious. Worse than anywhere in Thailand or even Shang-hai.

We didn't make it north this trip. Next time. Our friends went to an Elephant Recovery Sanctuary in the north and said it was pretty amazing.

I didn't find Bangkok very smelly. Oostend Belgium was worse. Mexico City was worse.

Although there was this one bathroom beside the Chao Praya that was...inimitable.

Good to know 227, I actually wanted to get Anachronox, but might not do that now. I can relate to not wanting to buy stuff from GOG, but whatever- Torchlight was free, the games I bought were on low, low prices, and I like GOG/CDP enough to want to support them *shrug*

Yeah, I don't mean to sound too discouraging toward them. The way they sell some things is just a bit irritating at times for those who are only looking for backups.

That aside, I'm grateful to them for introducing me to The Longest Journey, which is definitely somewhere in my top ten. Never would have played it if I hadn't picked it up on sale there. Oh, and having a chance to play Alpha Centauri without the disc is awesome.

Speaking of which, if anyone wants it, I've been sitting on a GOG key of Alpha Centauri since like... November. Looking to unload it onto someone I've actually spoken to rather than some faceless ninja.

Pfft. I hate that giveaway jargon.

*stabs flashheart*

It isn't generosity. I'm just sick of having a key for a game I already own. Seriously, all those random giveaways on GOG make actually finding topics in General Discussion way harder than it should be, and I'm constantly tempted to log in and yell at everyone for their boisterous givingness. Which is a word.

Eat where the locals eat. That applies to the entire world.

Hahaa, thanks for the laughs. Seriously, I don't mind the jargon, it keeps the spice flowing, so who cares.

I guess you haven't seen this yet: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/hide_giveaway_threads_greasemonkey/page1 Yea, yea, you can worship me now.

Okay, if you're still offering, I'll take it. Hwhy not?

@ Chris: well, that's sumthin, ain't it.

Actually, it doesn't necessarily work in very poor countries. That little food stall over there may have the longest queue, but that could easily be because it's next to a workplace, and is 10 cents cheaper than the stall down the road because they don't really care where they get their water.

The locals tend to be resistent to the various single-cell organisms in the water supply. You probably aren't.

For "eat where the locals eat" to work, you need a country that's reached the state of development where there are health inspectors in towns, and where the locals are willing to pay more for something that tastes good as well as filling the stomach.

But knowing someone local, that really does help. Sounds like Sard had a better experience than we did in Siem Reap.

Ah, I saw that thread when it was first created, back when there weren't actually links to it.

Doesn't matter. I refuse to download add-ons after Firefox got bogged down by them. That's why I switched to Chrome in the first place. Besides, it's easier to just ignore everyone over on GOG always and forever and scoff like an elitist while doing so.

Also, I don't worship things that don't require ritualistic sacrifice. Sorry.

I forget not everyone has a cast iron stomach like I do.

Local knowledge is pretty much the key. Couldn't agree more.

I'm using firefox and it hasn't slowed anything for me yet. It's really convenient to hide/show GA just like that, so I find it useful.

Well, off to try some Alpha :)

The only thing I use Firefox for is to buy stuff from Steam and Gog.

There's some weird Steam problem with my ISP, that's lasted for more than six months, that means that you can't access the store unless you use the ISP's transparent proxy. And the Gog downloader sucks and I haven't found a Chrome one that works as well as Downthemall.

It feels balanced somehow to use Firefox just for buying from Steam and Gog.

Oh, and for downloading Youtube videos so that I can watch them without them stuttering. I almost forgot that.

Susan- "Thanks for calling the Thomson and Knight technical support line, this is Susan how may I help?"

Max- "It was at dawn when I pulled up behind the perp. He was traveling west on I 95 and had no idea I have been following him."

Susan- "Excuse me sir?"

Max- "This would be the last job for me that night which was good because I was running out of ammo."

Susan- "Sir this is a technical support line, please tell me how I may help you."

Max- "I wasn't concerned with the other cars on the highway when I decided to ram the perps car from behind."

Susan- "What is this about sir? I can not help you if I don't know your problem."

Max- "The perps car skidded out of control and did 3 flips across the interstate and exploded in a ball of flames. It would be the last time he would drive in the HOV lane illegally."

Susan- "Please hold the line while I transfer you."

Max- "I approached the wreckage with my duty pistol trained at the drivers side door."

Susan- "click"
