Good sunrise here.

Aren't you the one who admitted to getting into trouble for public urination? Er... just wondering.

It was either him or Captain Death. It's difficult sometimes to remember who does what around here.
Yup, nice sunrise. And you have a pyramid?
Camera settings please. And a suggestion on what I can do about this (a suggestion that doesn't involve ranged weapons, preferably)

(And why is it out-of-focus when I used manual focus on an "infinity" setting?)

Congrats to you too, Chris. What do you cook?

Boston Tea Party are small 'up and coming' chain of resturants/coffee housees that provide breakfast and lunch menus using really good local ingredients.

Today for instance, I have prepared all sorts of things from scratch including a batch of burgers. We grind the steak ourselves as well as grinding all the fresh spices and other ingredients. (They are damn good burgers.) I have also baked Scones, Lemon Drizzle Cake and a massive slab of Rocky Road.

The place serves all my favourite 'hearty classics'.

Well, yes, but that was a long time ago. I haven't been caught since!

And those are some pretty fabulous views.

It's actually more of a giant triangle at this point. My slaves are really lazy.

Shutter speed was at 1/200, aperture at f/7.1, ISO at 1000. Very much a snapshot, though, as evidenced by the whole thing leaning to the right; those are actually the settings I used for the last thing I shot (but there were lots of synced camera flashes and the sunrise was crazy bright, so not changing the settings was educated laziness).

Um... what about a suggestion that involves a ladder and melee weapon? A lot of times you can deal with problems like that and drive yourself crazy trying to remedy them, or you can just move to a better location and/or aim the camera somewhere else. The latter is the better option 99% of the time, honestly.

That being said, I would totally try a wide aperture and something like this. Obviously that wouldn't achieve what you're looking for, but... heart bokeh! I mean, if you're going to play by that ugly light's rules, you might as well force it to make awesome shapes for you.

Because only things at infinity are sharp when you focus at infinity. The foreground can tend to become blurred, and depending on your aperture, you can end up with it just a little out of focus. It's hard to tell with the way the forum resizes pictures, but it's likely that the clouds in the background are sharp. With clouds like that, though, you'll probably want to focus so that the foreground is nice and sharp. I mean, clouds like that don't really convey sharpness, so the trade-off of focusing at infinity in a scene like that probably isn't worth it.

Thanks, 227. I should have said no ladder/melee weapons either.

And thanks for the explanation on infinity. I was surprised that the temple was out-of-focus, but it seems like I'm actually going to have to focus the damned camera instead of shooting blind the next time. I'm sure than "infinity" used to work when I was a child and had a cheap Zenith, but maybe I was just used to having out-of-focus pictures.

I'm trying for a full day time lapse, and the location is, unfortunately, pretty much pre-defined, as it's my own balcony. There's no way I'm going to sit somewhere else and watch the camera go click once a minute all day. I've one other lens that should theoretically be able to handle it, I'll check it and see if the bokeh is better.

Settings. OK. I can see the advantages of going with high ISO at night, but I don't think I can adjust in fine enough steps to get it down to a decent day-time setting without the change being obvious. Some experimentation will be needed here.

@Chris. Do you do fish and chips, and if so, do you deliver? I would sacrifice any number of forum members for decent fish and chips.

It's terrible, isn't it? People keep telling me I should just cook my own, but it just isn't the same if the fish is fresh.

Maybe I need to pay Australia a visit. It's been a while, they should let me back in again.

Fine, thanks. It was a slightly nervous day though, we were getting aftershocks several times an hour. The damned house just wouldn't stay still. There seems to be a fair amount of damage in town, and the death toll's up to 97. And we're getting a Presidential visit. Great.

And the Chocolate Hills are undamaged.

Yes, but I had to stay and keep the dog calm. And Oldest Cat did NOT approve of the house shakes.

Don't think of it as an earthquake, but rather, the earth pulling a sick dance move. Doesn't make it any less horrible, but at least it feels a little less tragic that way.

Glad everyone seems to be fine.

Glad to hear you and your fam are okay, dragon. Take care. A friend of mine has a bad tempered cat which raises hell with the slightest bit of thunder; I hope your pets don't fuss too much or get really scared.

I suspect not - it isn't supposed to be an earthquake zone. We had a very, very small one last year, and that was the first time in living memory. And it's the kind of place where shortcuts are likely on construction projects. You look at the buildings damaged, it says it all - malls, hospitals, colleges, public buildings. Low and mid-rise, not the highrise buildings. And several four hundred year old churches.

@Flash. The animals didn't notice. Every other dog in the area was barking, and friends said that their dogs were running around in circles going crazy, but Gwyn just went outside and played with another dog. And only the oldest cat reacted, by coming downstairs to nap because the house was shaking too much upstairs.

We're still getting tremors every couple of hours. The biggest today was only 5.3, so it's getting weaker.
