The game crashes all the time 2.3

+
Hi everyone,

im having constant crash issues. i played it fine around 1-2 years ago (around 200 hours) no issues. now when i boot it up, it often crashes before reaching the main menu. sometimes i can load up a save and play no problem, but as soon as i load up that save or another save again the game crashes or flatlines. Trying to start a new game causes BOSD

im running with zero mods, have reinstalled the game, and updated drivers, but nothing seems to fix it.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this or things I can try?

Have no overclock

- Windows 10
- Rtx 4090
- i9-13900k
- Nvidia driver V 591.59
- 32Gb ram

Hi,
If you used mods previously (even if not), be sure by "reinstalling" the game, you also removed manually all the folders which aren't removed by uninstalling "normally" with your launcher, like explained here :

Ok, so if you removed these two folders, your game installation should be fine :(
  • Cyberpunk 2077 folder from here: %userprofile%\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\
  • REDEngine and CD Projekt Red folders from here %userprofile%\AppData\Local\
Also, if you didn't check everything suggested by the support in case. And if nothing work, I highly recommend to send a ticket to the support if it's not already done ("contact us" button).

Just reinstalled after a couple of years not playing as I wanted to try the DLC, New build PC - 9800X3D / 5090. Plays beautifully, looks great, having fun. Then after a couple of hours if I use fast travel it flatlines...

No mods, completely clean install of windows, graphics drivers and game.

Been trawling online for solutions but all I find are people with the same issue getting no clear answer. Usually people recommend removing mods, reinstall game, reinstall launcher etc. Many of the posts are from a couple of years ago and seem to be still happening to people who are reporting it now.

Is this one of those 'developers can't find solution so constantly throw up temp fixes' situations?

Hi,
Same issue, W11 i9 RTX4080. All went fine until I upload a NVidia update in the late summer 25 : the game freezed on Red Project screen and the PC rebooted.
I fixed the pb by using an old version (july 2025 or something like that) from NVidia website until the november Windows 11 update was released and made the game freeze again, PC crash with BSOD (once the PC was actually unable to restart).
I uninstalled the nov update and was able to play again.
With the january update, it's all over again. I cannot play the game anymore.
I heard that Windows 11 was a real mess and had a lot of big issues, one of them being to become incompatible with NVidia's drivers ? Someone can confirm ?
For now, the game is unusable.

If you uninstalled and deleted all mods and configuration files, wiped the game, then reinstalled fresh, then I think your best chance of finding a solution is submitting a support ticket. Somebody's going to need to take a look at your hardware and driver specifications, and crash information.

Yep, sending a ticket might be the best thing you can do:
(click on Contact us to report the issue)

Unfortunately, driver and windows updates always have the chance to brick something.

That being said, in cases where mods had been installed at some point, I'd try a clean installation first.

You can also try reinstalling visual c++ if it's a freshly installed windows os. Links can be found here:

Also, Windows 10 is no longer officially supported by Microsoft (which ended on Oct. 14, 2025). That means that no software written after that point will necessarily work correctly with Windows <10.

Annoying...but the upgrade to Windows 11 should still be free.

(I also really recommend it. Windows 11 is probably the best "gaming" version of Windows since Windows 7 [from the user-end.])

Thank you for these tips.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game (but I didn't delete any remaining files) without success.

I don't use any mods, and the game started crashing immediately after the updates. The first time was when I followed the advice on the launch page: ‘Your NVidia drivers are out of date.’ The second time was after the monthly Windows update. The game became playable again once I reinstalled older drivers or removed the recent KB.

I have an ROG I9 + GTX4080, which should do the trick (and runs fine as long as I use the ‘right’ drivers and without the ‘bad’ KB).

I'm going to open a support ticket.
