The General Videogame Thread

+
I finished System Shock 2 yesterday. It was a great game, more for its mechanics than its story. And to continue my campaign "After the Classics", I'm about to start Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Any recommended general tips for beginners? Skills, clans, mods? I went to NexusMods but didn't find any graphical overhaul for the entire game like System Shock 2 has.

It's a goddamn bug festival, play with the latest unofficial patch installed.

DO NOT start as a Malkavian, they are LITERALLY insane. Not ideal for first timers.

For sure install Wesp5 patch from here: http://www.patches-scrolls.com/vampire_bloodlines.php

Also, set forced anisotropic filtering in your driver settings for the game (I use x16). It improves it quite a bit.

I'm just starting a new playthrough as Malkavian :)

I recommend to continue discussion on VtM Bloodlines in this thread though, since it's more focused on RPGs: http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/16789-Playing-Classic-RPGs

Don't start as a Tremere, Malkavian, or Nosferatu.

I started a Tremere first and abandoned it, but also due to shitty skill picking. But in general I've seen people warn against playing it first. Nosferatu was my second and finished on it but sewer traveling was a bitch for awhile. The above three also have the most flavour in the game.

I love mechs. This looks so cool. It's on Unreal 4 and is set to run on PC. Skip to like 5-6 minutes for gameplay to start, Freaking mechs piloting even bigger mechs.

Also, a cleared up translation of what Kojima said about MGO is this

""The Mother Base battle gameplay we showed at gamescom is not part of the new MGO, which we'll be unveiling at TGA. What you saw at gamescom was one of the main game's Mother Base online features, which allows players to infiltrate each other's Mother Base"

everyone try this

it's a simple amusing flash game about where you should look when you're buying condoms or having sex.

@eliharel Ventrue is reasonably challenging for a beginner. Sort of Vampire nobility, that refuses to feed off beggars and rats, which are common sources of blood. But that's hardly a problem given all the blood packs you can find/buy and the people in clubs.

I wish I could tell you more, but frankly I barely remember anything. Except the hotel mission... damn...

Why is that hotel mission so scary. I've played through it at least five times and rush my way through...

Guns are more fun in my opinion.

Don't know something about that feeling that something evil is right behind you all the time? I always suspect some reflection giving me a scare moment, and I played through that mission at least 10 times.

Suppose it's that. Always a sense of dread for me when that mission is coming.

Granted I just can't handle horror. But hell the scary fleshy monsters aren't as terrifying as the hotel...

The hotel is horror done right, It's creepy nerve wracking without a single monster ever showing up.
And still there is that sweet release when you finally leave the area and you'll do it as fast as you can without looking in every corner for an item. Even the porn studio area isn't that creepy and there you literally have disgusting creepy things jumping in your face.

Wish they covered the Quake pro scene too, but I guess it's too small. Anyway, good watch.

Just looked at steam and they have 3 games on sale that happen to be on my GOG wishlist. WHY!?

Sometimes I wished GOG had price matching :p

It's probably one on the best parts of the game. Really spooky.

About VTMB - do you guys think there's one path that is clearly the funner one, between guns and melee?

I usually give some points to both, may be somewhat more to melee. Both can be quite useful in different situations.

Just started replaying as Malkavian - I wonder if those extra voices which appear during dialogs actually say something useful (supposedly they should give some hidden hints). It's just close to impossible to catch what they say, when they coincide with the dialog.

Sega, Creative Assembly, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!?

What genius thought that this was a good idea?

Probably the guy who did the calculation of profit for the first Total War Battles game. :troll:

By the way, what's so horrible about it? It's not like their core team is investing time for it, it will probably make profit, and at first glance it doesn't look all that bad for a mobile game.
Not having played TWB:Shogun, the only thing that scares me is CA - who are notorious for charging quite a bit of money for scraps of new stuff - doing free-to-play.
