So, during the Black Friday sales I bought Diablo III Ultimate Evil (AKA, the base game + the Reaper of Souls expansion) for my PS4. It was kind of a in the moment rush: I saw it being quite cheap, talked to friend who had bought it and thought "Hell, let´s buy it and have some multiplayer fun!". So far I barely tried it a bit to see if everything was in order, so I can´t have an opinion on it yet.

Any of you guys played it? Having read some reviews it appears that after a couple of years Blizzard actually turned it into a much better game than it was when it released... is this so?
Also, any recommendations as to what class/build to start with? Good class combinations for multiplayer games?

I have Diablo III on PC.

I played through the campaign as Barbarian - your "standard" melee class. Pick what you want and you will do fine - classes are balanced well. Sure, some are more fragile in the beginning than others, but that changes when you gain a few levels. There is TONS of builds online - melee wizards, ranged barbarians and so on, but I suggest you play the game without a guide for now, just to see what you will like the most. Don't worry you can re-spec your characters for free at any time, so... experiment!

From what I've seen most people playing online pick either Wizard or Demon Hunter, as those classes have the highest DPS possible. Barbarian is also common, probably the most common in fact and if you spec him right he can be an unstoppable demon of destruction as well :p Haven't touched Crusader yet, so can't say much.

Played several hundred hours on PC, alone or with friends. It did get better over the years, yes. Especially endgame has become more varied and motivational. So, if you expect something from the game it is not - say, a storydriven game with tactically challenging combat - it did not improve all that much. It's not a game you should expect to be exceptionally good if you plan to play through it and put it aside - it truly shines if you enjoy the combat mechanics so that you just play for playings sake. But its core mechanics, those that define it as a hack'n'slash game were improved greatly. Combat and character builds were great to begin with, I think (the freedom to respec as often and wherever you like is brilliant, imo! Others hate it). But in terms of long term motivation, item quality, loot distribution and variety it was improved a lot.

For starters, I'd suggest staying away from the Crusader. IMO he plays a bit sluggishly, slow and not particularly interesting. He IS fun, but not ideal for starters I'd say. Beyond that, it's just a matter of taste. Like to blast everything into molten pieces? Sorcerer. Like to get up close into the thick of it, crushing skulls and smashing bodies several metres away while laughing like a madman? Barbarian. Like to drink coffee while your minions and poison do the work? Witch Doctor. Like to punch people in the face with holy powers and incredible speed? Monk. Like to do ranged combat, move cleverly and outsmart the enemies to avoid even getting close? Demon Hunter.

Just test every class for a couple of hours and you'll get a feel for how they play, in most general terms (character build will change that quite a lot). Levelling is quite fast and what better way to figure out what you like than playing?

Sadly it's not surprising. The second half of your statement accurately describes the majority of games released in the last 20 or so years.

I don't think so, Ubisoft games are a special case. FC4 is FC3 with new levels and guns, slightly better graphics and like Watch Dogs, its open world gameplay owes heavily to Assassin's Creed, and we all know how bored we are of that.

Look at Battlefield 3 vs 4 for a great example of reselling the same game which has been slightly modified. Look at most of the Call of Duty shooters. Look at The Elder scrolls games. Look at Bioware games. Look at the million or so MMO's which are basically just clones with copy-and-pasted generic fetch questing and generic, press 1-6 tab target combat where the main objective is to get a bigger number (grind to level up).

Finding a quality, innovative or unique game nowadays isn't common for me; the number of generic copy-and-paste clones far outweighs the games which I consider to be worth my time.

Now now, the new DA wasn't copy paste. It was a clear improvement over the other games in most areas. You can dislike the game all you want but the effort that went into it is undeniable. As for BF4, it's a very fun game that gave me more multiplayer maps, far superior to COD. Speaking of MMOs, the only innovator is and has been Blizzard for the last 10 years although I have high hopes for Star Citizen, which is not really an MMO.

The times of yearly innovations from AAA studios are over. A AAA developer has a lot of responsibilities; to its publisher, to its emplyees who have families. Innovation on such a scale costs money and making a AAA game is risky to begin with. The game HAS to sell so in a way I can understand. What I can't forgive is choosing a CLEAR copy paste game in favor of far superior titles like Wolf.

If you want innovation then you're gonna have to look at a handful of AAA devs with unlimited disposable development resources like Blizzard, Rockstar and Valve. Indie Kickstarter developers can innovate all they want but they often can't raise enough money to offer quality on par of say TW3 and DA:I except on very rare occasions like Star Citizen. For instance, Divinity: Original Sin has fantastic gameplay but horrendous voice acting, terrible dialogue, and mediocre graphics.

Can someone tell me why developers think Chromatic Aberration looks good? Are they not aware that in photography it's a sign of a low quality lens? This is a game revealed tonight and holy shit.

Yep, 20-30 years ago new content was the main focus of gaming. Nowadays flashy graphics are what gaming is all about; recycling the same stale mechanics over and over. Basically just rewrapping a turd with fancy paper and people love it. In the past there were so many good options available that it was hard to make enough time to play all the games I wanted to. Now I play maybe a few games a year because there is almost nothing worth my time.

So when people pick a copy-and-paste game over Wolf I completely understand why. Copy-and-paste is the new trendy thing to do. Innovation and creativity is now considered bad and people just want more of the same; they willingly pay and support this trend. Just like they willingly pay and support for companies to nickel-and-dime them to death with petty DLC.

Oh, and btw I am very much looking forward to playing Star Citizen. It is one of the two games which I backed on Kickstarter :).

Well, unlike you I don't think this trend applies to gaming as a whole, sure it extends beyond Ubisoft but not every AAA game is a repackaged turd like AC or FC. Have you played the new XCOM or Deus Ex: Human Revolution?

I have played neither but I have seen quite a bit of gameplay of both due to watching friends play.

XCOM EU/EW is fun but lacking in tactical depth. I found Expeditions:Conquistador to be a better challenge, even Blackguards. But the mix of resource management, team building and turn based combat was fun. The expansion makes things more interesting.

Deus Ex HR is an example of trying but not really. You have some choice (someone lives, someone dies) but the writing isn't that great, there is a lot of nonsense for a sci-fi game and the ending reduces your efforts to nothing.

If we're talking about innovative games, these aren't the best examples in my opinion. Still I greatly enjoyed XCOM EU/EW just because I'm a sucker for this genre.

Brothers and Sisters... I... I have sinned.

I recently bought a new computer, with MSI GTX 970 which entitled me to ONE free Ubisoft game. All I needed to do was send an email with a number of my receipt to the shop where I bought my PC.

I did so. Two days have passed and so I've sent another e-mail, this time with a detailed description. Yesterday, I received two emails, each being an answer to those I send, each with a different code to redeem.

I used both of them and now, I am an owner of Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity.

Why, oh why does being so bad feel sooo good?!

STreet fighter V exclusive to PS4 AND PC with crossplay between PC and PS4. That means multiplayer cross play. PC vs PS4 players

Here's a question for you: If you had to choose between fun and tactical depth what would it be?

Pretty stoked about this. SF has always been Capcom's labor of love and they've consistently had good ports on PC. And we finally get crossplay. Awesome! But I see console gamers cleaning house as that's where the competitive circuit is, and where most of the players are. It's very surprising it won't come to Xbone, I can't imagine their reason for that. My only gameplay request is please, for the love of god give Sakura more damage output.
