Anyway, Avernum 2: Crystal Souls has been released on gog. Played the first Avernum game, it was definitely interesting but lacked basic things like music... Sounds in general were fairly basic. Worth looking into, however, as the story and RPG system felt robust.

So I bought The Guild series(1+2+expansions) on impulse for seven bucks.

It's not often I play a game and say, "lol what the Fuck am I doing"?

Here's what I accomplished in an hour: Built a bake shop and kiss a woman.

Look into which of them are playable. I think, the first game and the last expansion of The Guild 2 are good. Or good enough. Anything else is said to be a buggy mess.

But this should be right down your alley, I think. I mean, basically it's a bit like Crusader Kings on a city scale, isn't it?

Yep, that's why I sprang for it. The second game has a mediocre score while the first is positive. I should point out i started with the second.

Is @Kinley implying he wants to be kissed by me?

Hot.

Hahaha. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/01/hotline-miami-2-developer-to-censored-australians-just-pirate-it/

Following the Australian Classification Board's recent decision to refuse classification to Hotline Miami 2, effectively barring the game from sale in the country, designer Jonatan Söderström has a piece of advice for people affected by the decision: "Just pirate it!"

Söderström's suggestion came in response to an e-mail from a concerned Hotline Miami fan, who asked if there was a way for him to obtain and pay for the game given the board's decision. "If it ends up being not released in Australia, just pirate it after release," Söderström wrote in reply. "No need to send us any money, just enjoy the game!"

Been playing a bit of Diablo III lately, the Ultimate Evil edition.
It´s a very fun game, no doubt about it. And I like the way Blizzard handled the customization of your character´s abilities: it´s as straightforward as it gets, but very deep and versatile. One could spend hours trying different builds.

I created two characters: a witch doctor with which I´ve been playing the campaign along with a friend, and a wizard with which I´ve been soloing it, and I´m having a very good time with both of them. I´m thinking about switching the characters, though... the witch doctor, with all his minions, seems more appropriate for a solo campaign, while the wizard seems better for playing with another character, him being the glass cannon he is. I´ll probably do it!

Edit:
This looks promising...

Well, not only just a mobile game, but it is for only iOS. I would try it if it is avaible on Android, but it seems to be not. For now.

Meh...I doubt it will be any good. I'd rather a Dawn of War style game set in that time period.

One of the few instances where I would condone piracy. Neil Gaiman took the same approach to people pirating his work as it helped spread his name in eastern Europe. Still, the best solution is for Australian to ditch their ratings system.

A rather lame attempt by someone who thinks he is a film critic to claim that computer games can never be art: http://www.rogerebert.com/rogers-journal/video-games-can-never-be-art

While pompously claiming that he understands art, it looks like he has no clue what he is talking about.

Ah good ol' Roger Ebert. While his cinema critique was always pretty much spot on for me, he really couldn't "get" videogames one bit. RIP.

Before typing an angry e-mail to him do consider that he's not among the living anymore.

Ah, it's the first time I've heard of him. What's surprising that someone who was a film critic and supposedly understood art could fail to understand deep art potential of games.

If anything, films or theater unlike books involve actors. Games take it to another level turning readers / viewers (i.e. gamers) in actors themselves. I guess for those who actually didn't play any games themselves it's way too theoretical.
