The General Videogame Thread

RPS released two articles - the good parts of TW2, and the not so good parts. I was expecting the negative half to be blind and irrational bashing, but it was surprisingly mellow. I found myself agreeing more than disagreeing with it, and contrary to my expectations, it didn't exaggerate the point about sex, and didn't even touch gender matters

RPS said:
To be clear, I don’t really care about the prostitutes and other casual encounters in the game, which are both fine in-context and not particularly interesting.

For a long time I was under the impression that RPS has some unshakable gripe with TW series, but both these two articles, as well as the preview of TW3, are very positive. Hell, lately I've even reading a couple of things at Kotaku (one about the difference between Inquisition now and Inquisition in the leaked alpha footage, and one about the site's desire to focus less on future games, and more about those that are already out and the updates they go through).

GamerGate and spending time here really tarnished these two sites in my eyes. If I'll go back and read through some stuff I suspect I'll remember why, but I'm also coming around and realizing they're not the pure junk I was thinking they were (and yeah, yeah, I realize how unimpressive it is of me to come around based on a couple of positive articles about a franchise I love).

I'm gonna be honest, the RPS articles for TW that have felt like they have some unnecessary, maybe slightly biased criticism in them that I've read have been the exception. I never understood why they're laballed as anti-Witcher, other than "they released a couple of articles that said a few bad, silly things."

Sure, they publish some tosh every now and again, but the vast majority of their articles are standard journalism with some humour (which you may or may not find funny, depending on who you are) thrown in there.

If anyone wishes to continue this discussion, by the way, please, do so in the Gaming Journalism thread.

Just stumbled across this ... physics based game. Haven't done more than watch the trailer, but I will download it and have a go, just because this is an area of physics that is hard to "grock" without some 'reasonable' situation.

A relativistic 'collecting' game in a first person, walking game, where the objects collected artificially reduce the speed of light, approaching the maximum walking speed.

Huh. This kind of appeals to me as someone who likes to play as Miner in space station 13.

Atari, one of the world's most recognized publishers and producers of interactive entertainment, today announced the upcoming release of Asteroids: Outpost for PC. This bold re-imagining of the world-renowned 1979 arcade shooter puts players in the role of a deep space miner, as they struggle for survival in the asteroid belt. Asteroids: Outpost reinvents the classic Atari title as an open world, sandbox style, survival experience, where players mine, build and defend their base and grow their fortune as they go "from rocks to riches".

How much of a difference does an HDMI cable matter for a console and HD TV ( 1080)? Because I just started Red Dead, and yeesh. With the standard setup, this will take getting used to.

If you're comparing it to a standard component cable, it should offer better image quality.

Who is RPS? You write about it as if it's some common knowledge :)

Started Hitman: Blood Money for the first time. I'm really want to beat it on Pro difficulty, because it really makes you pay attention and not rush through things. But I failed the tutorial twice, and damn, sending you all the way back to the beginning of the level can be really frustrating later on in long levels, I imagine.
