More 4K GTA V screenshots. I'm kinda surprised Rockstar is doing 4K screenshots

Not really impressed. There's a plasticky feel to most of them. And lighting is nowhere near as good as in The Order (I do realize one is a vast open world, the other a corridor shooter).

Guess Ready at Dawn has spoiled me and I'll fail to be impressed by anything else for a while. Graphics that looked outstanding by 2013 standards now look mid-league. I wonder if and how titles with long development cycles will cope with the trend of fast-improving standards.

Not to me, The Order does not look cliché at all. In fact, I'd go as far as saying it's one of the strongest alliances, strongest weldings of art direction and graphical tech in recent memory. And though I'm no longer as swayed by TW3 graphics as I used to be, I'd say they still look very good and the art direction seems as pristine as ever.

I heard a funny one today.

Apparently Valve registered a time slot at GDC 2015 for 3:00PM on March 3rd. Anyone wanna take a stab at guessing what they're teasing?

Just wait until mods for the GTA V PC version come out, GTA IV with it's icenhancer mod looks near photorealistic at times.

Official release of SteamOS would be my guess, and the first few SteamBoxes.

About graphics: we still have more than 10 months to go, but The Order 1886 does look absolutely gorgeous. Also I am one of not so many gamers who really like this game, despite QTEs that drove me crazy, not very developed setting, and pretty predictable story (predictable or not, I actually like it, and would want to have a sequel).

What game do you guys think will take the graphical championship this year? They all look stunning to me.

TW3 for me. Texture, model, and maybe effects-wise it might not be the best (there's The Order and Knight), but the graphics being spread throughout the massive map make up for it. I can't imagine how much effort it took to craft so many different textures etc for so many different locations. Also, the art direction looks good especially when you consider how different regions give off different vibes - at least to me they did, Skellige, White Orchard and the swamps all felt different.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference. While technical details (textures and blah) are definitely important, I really think art direction is equally important if not more so. It's why while both Dishonored and DA2 had muddy-ass textures, I think the former looks infinitely better.

Well the internets are convinced it's 'that' game.

Doom 4 is also going to be (very likely) formally announced this year at the Bethesda conference

It'll be Doom 3 vs Half Life 2 all over again.

I wouldn't be surprised if Half-Life 3 is a title that makes a really really good VR experience though. Half-Life 2 did a lot for physics stuff and I wouldn't be surprised if HL 3 did a lot for FPS games in VR.

I still believe HL3 won't happen. Expectations are obscene.

Valve are too drunk on hat money to care.

They've shown nothing of the game. I don't understand why people get their expectations so high. People who have these really high expectations will probably hate it no matter what so I don't think Valve should care. All I really want is a conclusion to the story and fun gameplay with probably some new mechanic or gimmick (I'd guess VR). I hope they make a book like they did for Half-Life 2 for HL3. Half-Life 2: raising the bar is a great book.

That's pretty much true. Video-game design is iterative, so if they go a long time without releasing anything (8 years in this case) you pretty much know it's not going to be 100% like the game people remembered.

Rockstar has annoyed me to no end with their cliche gangsta shit, but with Red Dead...god damn. They did so much right with this game. You can simply exist in the world and that is enough. The entire landscape feels hand crafted. None of the annoying bullshit of GTA.. They're still very conventional in their gameplay, but it's good enough. I know this is years late, I felt the need to comment on the game.

yep which is why i'm waiting to see how extensive modding will be with gta5 before i purchase so i know for sure that i won't have to deal with that bland gangta shit for the console kids.
