greetings from Warsaw
Yeah, InXile too. The RPG market just lost two studios into the M$ abyss.
I.e. expect more exclusives and more MS lock-in and DRM, all in order to "turn players into loyal Xbox fans". Farewell inXile and Obsidian. You will be remembered. As part of our commitment to bringing a steady stream of new, exclusive games to our fans, I’m excited to announce Microsoft’s intent to acquire two new game development studios – Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment.
<...>
We’re focused on implementing new Microsoft technologies, delivering content for new platforms and services like Xbox Game Pass, and creating exclusive games that turn players into loyal Xbox fans.
They also said this:Brian Fargo: "I can understand the natural skepticism of seeing small companies bought, we've all seen some subsequently dismantled after. Our deal with Microsoft allows InXile to grow and dream like never before. This is a wonderful thing for our future."
I'd say paired with the very clear press release from the Xbox execs, we won't see any DRM-free and Linux releases from them anymore. So while the companies might feel like they secured their finances, for many of their backers they as if don't exit at all now. We're keeping our backer commitments for BT4 and WL3. Beyond that, it's hard to say. It's still very early in this new relationship.
Tyranny.dark Fantasy Rpg (...) from Obsidian would be a Dream for me![]()
My dream Rpg would look like this:Tyranny.
but if you mean new new, and by AAA you mean a generic, "cinematic" action game that pretends to be an RPG, then you might get lucky. Might be an XBox exclusive though...
Enjoy! I'm planning to continue my first playthrough of TW3 as well soon (I paused it in early quests in Velen), after I'll finish Shadow Warrior 2. I started TW2 in Wine on Linux a while ago, but after White Orchard it had too many graphical problems, and only very recently Wine together with dxvk enabled playing it with perfect rendering on Linux.Guys, I've played my first hour in The Witcher 3... and... holy moly. Definitely one of my favorite games already.
It took me several years to get into Dark Souls. Now, I keep going back. Great way to go through controllers, too. Keeping that industry alive.hmm now that I got a new controller, I should try dark souls again too.
