Looks nice. Anyone followed the development of this game? Just wondering what previews/hands on articles are saying about it..

The impressions so far have been fairly positive.

A lot of reactivity in the world while still having lots of freedom, resulting in a lot of memorable experiences - seems to be the main draw. Haven't heard much about the quality of the story, so I think it's safe to assume it's goingto be pretty meh.

Divine Divinity also didn't win any prizes for the story, but it was lots of fun with some really nice, unique ideas nevertheless.

Looks like the spiritual successor I was hoping for. I wouldn't expect great things from the writing either, though they do lighthearted humor pretty well. I do wish the art design was more in keeping with the original.

So I bought the original Age Of Wonders on GOG.com. I'm sure I would enjoy the game if it didn't crash just after the intro movie! :realmad: Has anyone got a clue how to get the damn thing working? I've tried compatibility mode and searched the GOG forums, but nothing works.

Maybe this can help. I encourage you to browse through the GOG support page, and contact Support over there if you don't find a solution to your problem.

Thanks Reptile! It was Data Execution Prevention, turns out AOW needed an exemption. Always something you never expect!

Maybe try posting your computer specifications? If you have additional software (such as Mumble in the case of that poster) report it too. I played AoW before and it ran perfectly fine.

Edit: Nevermind then, I see it is solved. I have had similarly bizarre experiences before, such as a game crashing always at the same spot until I unplugged my gamepad. Yep.

On other news, I started The Banner Saga and while entertaining, I have two complaints: 1) The viking theme is only barely superficial so far. It's mostly a fantasy game reminiscent of viking folklore. 2) Tactical options in combat are somewhat limited.

Visually it is very nice and I like the flow of the story. The decisions to be made during travel remind me of King of Dragon Pass. Pretty good so far, but not what I expected.

To those who played AoW3, what are your thoughts on it?

I tried human Rogue and Draconian Warlord (and a bit of commonwealth campaign but stopped at 2nd mission because sorcerer class bored me). Now I stopped and am waiting for the big patch that just went beta.

How odd...

October 7th:
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Alien Isolation

I'm really curious to see how Isolation will fill in 14 hours with just one enemy and no fighting at all. Every game I played had fighting as its main form of interaction, so it makes Isolation unique for me.

I think you can make an Outlast (7 hours long) / Slender look-a-like with Alien. But I'm curious too. 14 hours is very long for this type of game. Dead Space already did what should have been done.

So Sword of the Stars 2 has a big sale on steam, it's 6:7$. Worth it?
From what I read, the enhanced edition is not quite the debacle of the proportion of the original release version, but it's apparently barely playable and a hassle to go through. Does anyone have experience with it?

Reminds me what happened to that Amnesia in space follow up, what was it called Roma, Zoma or something, the AI premise looked interesting.

in lieu of fighting, you hide in lockers, and run or crouch around.

it's just another form of mundane.

oh and apparently you have to fight of clones and marines, so they've got the run and gun covered as well.

I've just heard that Star Wars Expanded Universe has been, to put it lightly, discarded by Disney.

Now, I was never into all them SW themed books and comics, with the exception of video games. The Jedi Knight series was one of my most beloved gaming experiences and it's a shame to see it discarded. Kyle Katarn, Jane Ors and all their adventures would make a great material for a spin-off movie.

I guess it means that The Old Republic is non-canon as well. Poor Bioware, now even the universe aligns against them.

Well, their not being canon does only mean that whatever happened in those games/books/comics/etc is irrelevant to the movies and will not be taken into consideration when writing the story. It does not exactly mean that characters, places or events will under no circumstances appear in any of Disney's canon stuff - either directly or by inspiring something heavily.

Kyle Katarn is a nice example as EpVII will take place at the same time as the Jedi Knight series. Whatever happened in the games is not considered for the writing of EpVII, but Disney could still decide to introduce Kyle Katarn to the movie with whatever amount of background information they like or a character of a different name that shares some traits with Katarn.

All in all, I don't think it's a big deal. You either like the EU or you don't, but I don't think anyone ever fully expected it to be official canon.

I don't give a damn what a mouse says, Thrawn is canon and is the best thing that happened to an otherwise meh universe.
