This is ridiculous now. So now we have to wait another who knows how long for the next patch in hope that it might get fixed then. highly annoying when ive done everything else i can do while waiting on this to be fixed and really cant progress any further cause of it. considering how many people are experiencing this bug I had hoped it would be fixed in this patch but clearly not, really disappointed in CDPR

This is not the first time.
They ignored this bug before they released 1.04 patch.

DUH. 4 threads about the bug, no fix whatsoever. What a joke.

I'm having the same problem. I think it might be because, while the guy I rescued from the trolls was following me, I fast travelled to the mainland, done some quests and then went back to Skellige, and he wasn't following me anymore. For some reason, he's standing on a ledge behind the giant. I've tried going over and talking to him but it doesn't make a difference, and when the loading screen is showing I can hear him firing his bow.

I am at a point in the game that I am essentially waiting on this quest to be patched. The problem with the quest is that it allows the user to accidentaly mess it up (large amount of threads/area). Really disappointed that I have to likely wait another week to see if it is fiaxable from CD Projekt Red.

I'm in AUS so we haven't got it yet but I was holding out for this patch. I'm so annoyed that it hasn't been resolved.

Despite the 120ish hours, I'm tempted to just start everything again. I really want to progress in the game (and I'm on a time limit). This is driving me crazy.

Aughhhh

I am on PC version 1.05

Infinite loading screen whether I save the guy in the cage or not. Extremely frustrated with this. 2 patches now and no fix? This is not acceptable.

Please fix immediately.

Seriously? Guys no offence but from what I read so far this is a bug that is easily avoidable and even makes sense to some degree... so you save a dude from trolls and then leave him alone on an island infested with Harpies and a Giant to go someplace else... or your help Hjalmar and he runs off to the cave and you leave... I mean no offence but that is a bit daft. How about instead of complaining about that bug you simply stop reproducing it? Load an earlier save and you don't have one... well tbh that's tough luck.

A bug is a bug. Do not be a d-bag.

Also, from what you "read"? Maybe if you actually experienced the bug you would feel differently. The bug is not a choice, it is pushed on us no matter what path we take during the quest.

Once you have the bug yes, you can just start the quest again. If you have a save before the quest. Unfortunately it's an OPEN WORLD GAME where EXPLORING IS ENCOURAGED. So I started the main quest and then wanted to do some secondary quests and play a game of Gwent. Then I go and explore some question marks.

Suddenly 5/6 hours of gameplay. Do YOU have a save from 5/6 hours ago?? Should I keep all my saves just in case something goes wrong?! You're right it IS my fault I didn't finish that quest straight away. I'm obviously doing games wrong, I promise I'll play them properly in the future and I'm sorry I expected a product I bought to actually allow me to finish the main objectives without incident. I'll keep that in mind too, random internet stranger whose opinion I really value.

I don't blame the developers for having the issue, but I blame them for addressing smaller issues in the patch and not the game breaking ones.

(Also as stiles22 said, there is no another way you can go about the quest other than restarting.)

THANK YOU.
(I haven't a save before the beginning of the quest. )

It is the only bug I know thaht prevents to finish the game. And the only one that CDProjekt seems don't care....

Been following these updates for a while and made an account just to come here and express my annoyance with this.

I, like the many others have been patiently awaiting a fix for this and cannot understand how even after path 1.05 this is still an issue!? There are plenty of threads filled with people having this problem and yet it is not even publicly recognized by CD Projekt Red that they are indeed aware and working on a fix for this.

I don't have an earlier save to fix this and even if I did I wouldn't do it because I want to finish the game the way I see fit (as it is intended) without having to work around it. This is not the player's fault by any means, this company needs to recognize and hotpatch this bug immediately.

I've been doing other quests while waiting for this to be fixed. Eventually, just after the cutscene before the fight in Mysterious Tracks, the giant cutscene would play again, only this time instead of dying during the cutscene it would just stay there indefinitely. So I tried reloading, but it kept happening. So I reloaded an even earlier save and tried doing different quests, but whenever I get into combat it happens again.

So now the whole game is essentially broken.

I had this too. You need to load save before the cutscenes in the giant's cave.

No checkpoints before that for me and I did not delete any.

I have a lot of checkpoints (and 1 manual save right before the start of the Giant fight) and they are all on various stages of this quest. I have tried almost all of them and still infinite load.

---------- Updated at 08:53 PM ----------

I just tried to leave the area and go to another quest until it is fixed. I decided to do a Witcher Contract (on a different island in Skellige) and all was going fine. Then as soon as I got to the cave to fight whatever is in there it then went to the cutscene allllll the way to Undvik again.

This bug is inescapable and I cannot progress because of this bug. Putting it off until it is fixed is not an option. It is a straight game breaker. Why have the devs not acknowledged this yet? If they have in another post please let me know as I have searched and have not been able to find any :(

Having the same issue, PC GoG version. Loading previous saves hasn't helped, so I'm stuck on a "secondary" quest that's required to progress through the story.

I may have found the reason for this issue. I to had this issue until I loaded a past save point... If you Find Hjalmer and then go back to rescue the one guy from the trolls in the pot... You can not "cross the lake" since Hjalmar is already gone and killing the ?Harpies? is the trigger for the cut scene..

you can do everything on this Island but once you reach "Find Hjalmar" and save him. There is no turning back. you must fail the uncompleted parts you missed or load a past save.

Hope this works for others as it did for me.

Sadly, that doesn't help anything. People know the point which the issue is caused.
We are waiting for a patch because we don't have the save before saving Hjalmar.
The gap is more than a week. The remained question mark is only five.
At this point, the only way to turn back is to restart the game.
