Mutations don't erase emotions. The witchers are training to avoid emotions as an auto-defense way: don't have any relation with normal humans because they will be always rejected. They are not psychopaths with atrophied frontal lobes, but humans trained to control and override emotions.

And those are the only witchers I like. Vesemir did not seem wise to me at all neither in the books nor in the Witcher 1. Though in the Witcher 3 I expect to like him. But until then, those are my only favorites. I wish Cahir was a witcher, though.
