camera is dynamic and depends if Gearalt rides horses, fights or is inside buildings, so no custom settings or changing height by mouse scrolling

I hope the FOV has a slider then

Well, I'd really appreciate having different camera options, with being able to zoom in/out with the mousewheel being my preferred option. But I got used to W2's camera despite being too close to Geralt, so I guess I'll get used to however W3 is. It's disappointing that we won't have a choice though.

Oh wow. The poll used to be so close lol. Now it is clear what the majority opinion is. Wonder what effect it will have.

A dynamic camera would be more than fine. Closer when walking, further when sprinting or in a combat.

The poll results dont surprise me much, none of the people voting played the game, they watched the trailers and the world, where the closer camera naturally has some advantages.

If the poll had an option that said "the two cameras but we can choose when to use them", that would be winning easily, gameplay cant be ignored.

I'm sure that all or almost all people who voted played Witcher 2, which has a closer camera similar to the one in the first screens. So they have gameplay experience with it.I find the camera in the 35min gameplay demo too far away while running around, which damages the immersion I have with the game and the world. I'm fine with a farther camera during combat, but highly prefer the older one outside of combat. If they keep the new camera I hope there will be as fast as possible mods to change it.

I vote for full mouse control for camera meaning solid x+y axis and distance from the player with mouse wheel. There is no reason to have artificial camera constraints with m&k.

In TW2 however camera gets far away during combat, and so it becomes closer to TW3's new camera, there's not a solid testing of combat with a camera thats very close to Geralt. Except of course if you do an experiment with mods in TW2, but even then the combat from that game is not prepared for that, so it would probably feel not very good, whereas in TW3, combat sometimes even with the close cam is not that bad, when it works well though, one mistake and its going to cost the player health or whatever.

I like the closer camera for walking like you, but on the other hand there are also other benefits to the farther one, like being able to sense the scope and scale of the environments better, which also helps while sprinting because it lets you see more places where you'd want to go through, but in any case my desire is the same, I want a control for the camera that's intuitive and comfortable.

We will probably get one through mods if its not included, like with Rise of the Sword which even lets you have two presets to switch between two cam modes easily, but of course it'd be ideal if CDPR provides us with one well made by them and at launch.

Love the new camera style shown :D

Just wanted to say, I really love the new camera style shown in the latest gameplay footage. It's nice and centered around geralt, at a nice default distance, unlike the previous one, that was skewed off to the side, and closer.

I know stuff like this is very perceptual, in preference. But the new one looks so much nicer to me. having a centered focal point, it's a lot more natural looking, and less jarring when turing the camera.

People are probably thinking, what's the big deal?, but the skewed, or OTS style cameras, can sometimes give me headaches, over time. The way the camera arcs around the player when it's OTS style.

I hope this is the camera that we'll see when we get the game, or at least have options for it, etc.

Thanks again for the specatular looking game, and I bloody can't wait to play the shit out of it ^^

Hope they leave both options, the good old OTS as well as the Third Person view for the player to choose.

My thoughts exactly, the new camera system is best.
I love camera options in general, but I felt TW2 was also too close for the same reasons. Like I said, if a W2 camera view was an option, I would use it, but the new one is perfect and should still be the default view at launch. I still would love a zoom toggle tho :)

The best solution is a camera zoom for both controllers and mouse keyboards.

Controllers can use the up and down dpad, I use it for TERA and works great.

I hope the devs remember their old school roots, when games use to let you remap almost every key.

Give us OPTIONS not choices. Let us decide how we play and control the camera and character without relying on modding please, like the good old days.

Camera in the witcher

I've noticed that in the later gameplay trailers the combat camera has changed quite a bit. it seems now more tactical and you can see your surroundings better, but i really liked the cinematic camera in the dynamic & tactical combat section in the debut gameplay trailer. Is CD project not going to implement that close and personal combat camera as well?
Every fight seems more epic and meaningful when the camera gets close to the action as in the trailers bits with the monsters and wolves.

In the first witcher game, you were able to change the camera angle between three possibilities. I do hope that's possible with The Witcher 3as some of you suggested. A dynamic camera movement in combat situations would make the game just epic.

I'm not saying the camera is bad, it surely is more convenient when battling many foes. The close-up camera seems to only appear when grilling enemies with igni.

If given the option, I would actually prefer the camera to zoom in during battles, since I rather feel the game is getting more intense than easy to play.

(also i have no idea how to delete attached thumbnails)

Yeah, the more I think about it, and the more I play TW2 on my XB360, the more I would like a more close up camera option as well, I like to see Geralt and all of his details AND the details of the monsters I'm fighting up close. It can be more easy on the eyes, and more intense in combat. I really like the new camera view for being able to see more of the world like RDR, it's perfect, but a more close up camera LIKE TW2 or even a little closer just like the VGX 2013 footage with those wolves ABOVE, would be the most ideal option to have as well, it looks fun and awesome up close like that. It's more like a movie and I love it, plus it would be the next best thing since there will be no first person view, unless we do indeed get a zoom button mode, but that has nothing to do with gameplay, because a zoom camera only works when the player is not moving. Who else wants to fight for these extra camera options, on All platforms!?! :)

Guys, what about keyboard controlls? How all those leaps and pirouettes are going to be done with it? Would it be seperate button for each one of them or maybe double click on the direction button. how do you think?

Bring back the closer camera! (Cinematic cam comparison video)

One of my concerns with the camera is that you don't feel playing 'as' Geralt. Instead, you feel 'in control' of him.

The camera feels a bit too high/far for my taste, so I made a very simple comparison video where I compare the 'fullscreen' version of a short clip, shortly followed by its 'zoomed' version, as to imitate a more cinematic experience.

One part where you'll notice a significant difference is in the first clip. Geralt is roaming in the swamps; in the 'fullscreen' version, you have a clear vision of your surroundings, which makes the area feel less dangerous. In the zoomed version, the swamps feel much more dangerous. The experience feels much more immersive.

edit: Some people say it makes them feel claustrophobic. Does Shadow Of Mordor / Mass Effect make you claustrophobic then?

Here's a gif to illustrate what I would aim for with a closer camera:

VGX demo VS. 35 min. gameplay demo

Damien tweeted that there is a zoom option, and that they are also thinking about other camera options (I believe people posted the link to that on the previous topic as well).

The zoomed clips in your demonstration wind up simply feeling claustrophobic to me.

I find it difficult (nausea and headaches) to play any game with an FOV lower than 90-100, and 110-120 is much much preferred. The FOV of an actual person is damn near 180 degrees, and some of them actually break that number.

A lower FOV will definitely increase tension by artificially limiting how much awareness of your surroundings that you have, but I find it a very cheap way to increase tension and would rather have as much use of my faculties as possible while keeping track of multiple opponents trying to flank me.

A combat system like the TW3s would be exceptionally punishing under a limited FOV where dodging attacks from multiple opponents is required and a large portion of every encounter.

All of that being said, what feels 'Natural' in a FOV sense is usually determined directly by the size of the monitor being looked at, the aspect ration of that monitor, and the distance from the face of the person viewing it. This is why most competently programmed shooters offer FOV sliders in the graphics options to allow for such fine adjustments. (Some games are coded in such a way that this is not possible, but that generally winds up being a non-issue in any game that uses a 3rd person camera)

Im not seeing anything you've described. Instead it just seems like Geralt has extremely poor peripheral vision.

Compare this new camera angle with the one found in VGX or other games like Shadow of Mordor or Mass Effect. It's extremely similar. If you find this too claustrophobic, then I fear you couldn't play shadow of Mordor / Mass effect at all
