Where is the quest with the operator on Iorveth's path in chapter 3? Did it have to start in chapter 2??

Yes, the quest is "From a Bygone Era", and it starts in Act II. Unfortunately, on Iorveth's path, you are not led to the place where you can start it. You must explore and find it on your own.
While you are across the mist, you must visit a house on a cliff, where there is a trap door. Aard the barrels blocking the trap door, descend and solve the puzzle downstairs. The clue you need is in a graveyard near the house. Another door will open; inside is a paper that you should take. In Act III, talk to Bras of Ban Ard, who will interpret the paper for you.

If you are in the Enanched Edition, you can fight also with another operator.. you can find him in the tower added with the new quest (he will fight with you if you will try to steal the Forgotten Vran Sword)

Just a question: now I'm ready to go and find that operator. Which sword is better against him? Silver or steel?

Steel, but silver does work.

So, I have tried that operator figth for several times... I die with the second wave of gargoyles (several missed dodges, too late Quen and...) I have read in this forum that there is a posibility to change game difficulty for single quest Is this true? because I can't find that option in any menu available for me. Maybe I need to download some mod? I tried to look here:
http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/22594-list-of-mods-for-witcher-2-as-of-10292011/
but didn't understood which mod it could be.
Can someone explain me how it is possible to change the dificulty during the game?

EDIT: Finally did it... with the advice to hide behind one pillar to recover HP :) Still the question about dificulty changing is valid for the future purposes.

For some reason, pillars don't quite work for me in Enhanced Edition as they seem to disappear sometimes, and so, I end up re-allocating Geralt's skills instead, which means I have yet to beat the operator. I'm sooo pathetic, am I not?

About changing the difficulty, I found this thread: http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/24666-difficulty-change/
I tried it once but didn't seem to work. Either EE has changed it, or if it works for other players, then I was trying to do it at the wrong place/ moment. You can try it yourself and let us know.

Aard is the key. Aard Aard AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD. It's far superior to quen in usefullness and effectivity, as it allows you to stun and one-hit the nasty gargoyles, even both of them at once if you have Level III Aard. So, use Aard. My final word, Aard. :D

Well, I hadn't upgraded Aard, so it wasn't as useful as Quen. But the problem with the pillars was annoying whenever I was trying to stand behind them, or attempting to extiguish the torches. Perhaps I'll give it another try next time.

I don't think that extinguishing the torches does anything useful, does it? There was a rumour at one time that it stopped gargoyles appearing, but that isn't the case.

I had watched a video on YouTube about it, if I recall correctly. Maybe it was a feature taken away with the following patches, or perhaps it worked only on consoles? I can't really tell.
Fact is, I have failed to reproduce this tactic with Enhanced Edition on PC.

Even the base aard is quite useful, the chance of stunning the gargoyle is still high. So i usually get my quen up and then finish the gargoyles with aard - ridiculously high amounts of vigor come in handy at this point.

No high amounts of vigour, four bars at the most, but Aard stuns them 2 out of 3 times. I just found out while doing (again) the Gargoyle contract. I think my next playthrough will be focused mostly on figuring out a balanced but strong build for Geralt.
Thank you, M4xwolf. :)

I could afford those gargoyles, just couldn't affor to destroy two waves of them in a row + operatator
I'm playing Witcher 2 EE, so i gues the same tactic shoyuld workl for all. For me at least the left pillar (left just to the entrance to the room)worked perfectly as a shelter. :)After 2'nd wave of gargoyles I had only

The first time I tried to fight the Operator it was a failure of epic proportions. The first wave of Gargoyles found me in panic running around in circles. The second wave found me dead On a serious note, I believe this fight is one of those that test the way you have built Geralt, exposing all your weaknesses and strengths.

I first tried it on my second playthrough, which was the first time I'd come up against The Operator, and I was pretty desperate for any solution. That would have been version 1.3, I think. There's a possibility I did it wrong, but I've always thought that it was just coincidence. (You know how it goes - a virgin dies, it rains, from then on everyone thinks that "sacrificing a virgin" is the way to make it rain).

I could do with some rain right now...
