Correction: A line is 3 seconds, not 12 seconds (I'm wrong, I'm sorry) :giveup:

No biggie, it happens. If anything, the fault is mine. I went in to confirm my bias that the map is yuge, rather than reviewing your findings like a good peer.

1. A line represents 3 seconds (about 90~100 per hour)

2. From the northernmost side (A) to the southernmost side (B), 64 lines (192 seconds) are used, sothe map can be crossed in about 3 minutes

100 * 1,6 / 3600 * 192 = 8,53 kilometers.

A mile is 1,6 kilometers, so to get kilometers per hour out of miles per hour you time the mph with 1,6.

There are 3600 seconds in a hour, so to get meters per second out of kilometers per hour, you time the km/h by a thousand to get meters per hour and divide that with 3600.

There are 64 3-second line segments that comprise the journey north to south, amounting to 192 seconds in total.

Finally you take the calculated meters per second (44) and time that with the journeytime (192) and you get the total distance in meters. You then divide the meters by a thousand to get kilometers.

You can skip the kilometers per hour to meters per hour and the final meters to kilometers conversions, since those two cancel each other out.

This actually corresponds to earlier findings in this thread. 8,5km north to south is roughly the north-south width of the actual Morro Bay.

So, even though I’m a bit overwhelmed with the amount of content shown today, I still couldn’t keep my eyes off the Night City aerial view concept art. And well, suddenly something caught my eye: a green patch of land behind where Japantown is supposedly located. What could that place be?

Well, I found the answer not long afterwards on the game’s subreddit:

That definitely looks like some fancy corpo estate! It seems to be 2077’s version of North Oaks, now a part of Westbrook. There might be some more info about the place on the sourcebooks but I’ll look for it another day.

This part maybe the casino

Everyone is assuming the map we have seen is the whole thing. Which it pretty clearly isn't IMO.
Right?? Can we just take a second to appreciate the fact that most the new gameplay since NCW took place in ONE district and a little of the badlands, I mean you could see the other districts in the distance And across the water-ways during the driving gameplay And my god it looks vast. It’ll feel even bigger in first person too.

i think even if we gain a grasp of what the square mileage of Night City is, it still doesn't capture the enter-ability of the buildings, which is something a lot of games just do not at scale. So it's not just raw square mileage, but the fact that you can actually traverse the inside of those buildings (which gives greater meaning to that square mileage)...multiplied by vertical scale, makes it kind of inconceivable at this point. that inconceivability makes me happy and gives us something to try and figure out.

but actually interacting with that much interactivity will be something else entirely.

has someone actually posted the suspected square mileage yet?

While all of that is true. We do know that roughly half of the map - the Badlands - is mostly flat terrain.

The other half is likely split into a third that is relatively low in verticality, composed of suburban homes, industrial parks and warehouses.

Another third is the medium verticality of places like Kabuki-cho or Little China. Innercity residential tenements, malls and workplaces.

The final third is your district downtowns, corpo headquarters and megabuildings. The key areas of verticality.

Each of those can thought to have on average a multiple of verticality where 1 = flat and 2 = two stories and so forth.

And this forms a bell curve of accessible verticality. We will soon have enough data to begin speculating about that curve.

has someone actually posted the suspected square mileage yet?

Current estimates would put the map at 144km^2 or 56,4 miles^2.

As a addendum;

If current estimates of the Arasaka HQ are correct and so are the estimates of the square area of the map, then the cubical volume of the map is 72km^3.

If the map ingame is derived from the real world Morro Bay, then is in my opinion would look a bit like this;

For anyone interested^

Subjectively speaking (because I don’t have any numbers to back me up), I’m not 100% sure about this comparison. I do feel the urban part of Night City is larger than the city of Los Santos but not by that much. If I’m wrong and it’s actually that big, though, then that’s for the better :LOL:

Also, from my experience I don’t remember Los Santos city feeling as small as this map seems to tell (not saying that LS is small, mind you). That’s probably thanks to GTA V’s level design.

yeah thats fair, im skepticle myself but ill let greater minds than my own do the math on this. either way just from the gameplay alone and the screenclip ill attach, the city looks huge and the first person perspective will make it look even bigger.
i assume the part of the city my arrows point to are the City Centre
