The Swamp, v2.0

Just ventured into the Swamp, yesterday, for the first time since Ch.2, and... well... I'll just say that if the Swamp weren't enough before with all the bloedzuigers (took me long enough to learn that name), drowned dead, drowners, echinopsae and archespores . . . now I have to deal with kikimores big and small, graveirs, cemaphores, algouls, wyverns (no, they're not all tame any longer) and some new creatures called voregs which are really just large wolves. Why aren't they just called large wolves? Why aren't the archespores just called red echinopsae, or the echinopsae called blue archespores? So, with all the boedzuigers, drowned dead, drowners, echinopsae, archespores, small kikimores, large kikimores, graveirs, cemaphores, algouls, wyverns, wolves and voregs attacking me wherever I go... well... a little annoying. It's like a wildlife sanctuary . . . except with all predators and no prey. . . and except that normally the next thing an administrator does once establishing a place as a wildlife sanctuary is to make sure a bunch of witless brickmakers and desperate loggers don't set up towns and camps where they get constantly attacked and eaten. It's just... it's not even silly, it's dumb....Sigh... .

The swamp should be less dangerous during daytime. A lot of monsters, including graveirs, cemetaurs and alghouls, hide during the day. And Voreg is this wolf's proper name. There are no other wolves as big as it is.

Why zebras aren't just called white horses with stripes? ;)

I see nothing dumb about it. People live at the coasts where nearly every year a tornado is guaranteed. There are some countires who has high quake expectancies and do nothing about it. Also there are other prey than humans, non-humans in the swamp. The creatures are occasionally hunt each other down. Archespores are tougher than Echinopsae. There is a large wolf in the swamp called Voref which is related to a trophy quest. Did it attack you by the way? İn my playthroughs it never attacked me. Something is wrong with its AI. And I saw the exact thing in Toegoff's let's play W1 on Youtube. Voref didn't attack there either.

I think it is a wider problem. It behaved that way in all of my 5 playthroughs, and *both* Toegoff's and Veriax's LPs.

Actually, the only enemies, which are really "annoying" are drowners or drowned dead. You can avoid most other monsters when Geralt is not strong enough or you just don't want to hack your way through them.Wyvern stay on the island, Wolves are in that little patch of forest behind the Druids-Hippie camp, Even most of the damn Bloedzuigers (dutch btw) have their little island and only few stroll around, Archespores have their special places and they are cool, because they just shoot little arrows, but they won't follow you when you start running away.Just the stupid drowners pop up from everywhere, even if you like to avoid them. For my part, I bought that repellent for them at one point of the game, when I could not stand them any longer.
So, with all the boedzuigers, drowned dead, drowners, echinopsae, archespores, small kikimores, large kikimores, graveirs, cemaphores, algouls, wyverns, wolves and voregs attacking me wherever I go... well... a little annoying.

Well, it's never very healthy to do nightly strolls, except you are tired of your virtual life. Running straight into a Wyvern camp is also kinda - uhm, not so wise, But an action like "watch your step" should do to survive a bit longer.

Woah, wait a minute - guess why the loggers dwarf (boss!) has this huge dwarven conical helmet - so he doesn't get stuck when he was eaten by ... anyway... see... somehow it would be boring if there wasn't any human soul out into that mire. You really would withdraw the last words, if you'd know how some people CAN live, I just have to watch my neighbours! (Great wildlife sanctuary over there! btw)---Concerning Voref - yep, it kinda does not do so much. =.O

I ended up saying "forget it" and bought a drowner talisman for chapter 3. I HATE the swamps with a passion, but the talisman saved me a lot of hassle as it affected both the Drowned Dead and the Drowners. they were still annoying, but it meant that I only really fought them when I needed to replenish my alchemy ingredients.

Flash:Yeah, I just realized, soon after that post, that Voreg was actually the animal's name, one-of-a-kind.Unkreativ:Well, it actually wasn't a "nightly stroll" when I went back there for the first time in Ch.3: it was broad daylight. And I remember thinking it was rather odd that there were ghouls attacking me in broad daylight.I sort of tried to rationalize it by thinking: well, the Swamp is kind of always sort of a 'dark' place, anyhow... .But, yeah, it seemed pretty strange. But at any rate: this was when I went up to that sort of crescent-shaped trail just above the Mage's Tower . . . I was immediately attacked by Voreg (yes, true: he actually attacked me) along with a couple of other wolves, and then I was attacked by a Graveir and I think an alghoul as well. And of course the drowners and drowned dead are always out to attack you wherever the hell you happen to be.The thing about the drowners and drowned dead that makes them merely annoying rather than aggravating -- I'm sure everyone'll agree with me -- is the fact that although they are really easy to kill (one strike will do 'em in, in many cases), they just keep coming at you, wherever you are.If they weren't so easy to kill they'd be aggravating as hell. Since they're easy to kill, they're just a nuisance. At one point I stopped even looting their bodies because I was so sick of them. You loot the bodies and then they're two more attacking you. I also actually started running away from them at one point. Really... those things are just annoying. But still: I wasn't ready to waste any money on a talisman to keep them away from me.I guess I'm cheap, that way, but honestly: Witchers make too little money anyhow, for the kind of work they do.

It wasn't ? o_O That's pretty strange, as I've never encountered any necrophages around day time (aye, cemetary, but those aren't that many during the day). I just once rested in the swamp at that little campfire in the ghouly area... and pretty much regreted this.

Here here! I held out on the talisman until near the end of Act III when I was going to be in and out of the sewers for main and side quests. Since I can't seen to open doors or loot when enemies are active around me, that meant that anytime I was trying to open a sewer gate I had to stop and take out all the drowners attacking me before I tried all over again. (I seem to have issues about not approaching sewer gates from the right angle or from the right distance so it takes a little while). Between the swamps and the sewers I'd say that it was worth the 400.
Of course the naiad give you a talisman in Act IV ... you know ... once you no longer really need it anymore. At least I never needed it in Act IV, only Act V will tell.
