The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

I love the environments and overall concept. Not a fan of the gameplay so far. The floating text kills immersion and is annoying. I remember the British Sherlock Holmes series did this and it made the show feel like a commercial. I would simply have his notepad pop up on the side and show observations scribbled on as he explores.

Thanks for posting a trailer. The game looks quite awesome. I am a sucker for supernatural mysteries :) Good that it will be on ps4 as well.

Has this been posted here? Cause the second video doesn't work for me so I'm not sure what's linked there.

Bought it instantly after I've seen the vid gregski posted some days ago. A bit of Dear Esther and a little bit of Alan Wake indeed. Very interesting.

Yep, I already pre-ordered as well. It looks terrific, we can go wherever we want from the beginnings, it is set in natural environments similar to Alan Wake, and investigations are similar to MSS. If its story is good enough, it will be my another favorite of the genre.

Release date is soon, so I hope you guys enjoy it :) I'm not really into horror games so I'm not sure if I will play this one.

from the video, he basically solves crime by clicking inspect on an item, then the magic points out an object or place of interest so the player can run along to the next step.

i think this will end up a disappointment.

Its certainly very pretty - but that's just not enough for me, it looks interesting & one to watch, but strangely I feel no "wow" factor... the "vision" mechanic is less affective - to me anyway - than they might think... kind of feel dirty saying this, but does it need combat? Wheres the tension?

I love a good scary horror, but I don't think it can be called such, seriously wheres the Tension?

Hope it doesn't end up being too easy. They should town down the question mechanic. Anyone know the combination mechanic of Face Noir? Maybe an improvement upon that could work.

As I understand from that video, it was just a beginning, right after the intro. So this crime scene is a tutorial on how to use abilities and such. So I wouldn't judge about investigation difficulty from the tutorial.

I think the game will demand from you as a player to actually put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Like you have this special ability to see the last moments before character's death, but you still have to put all the scenes in the right order. So it's not like you press a button=you win.

Hm, the visuals/graphics (at least a big part of them) in this game look imo better than the visuals in Witcher 3...

Call me impressed and worried at the same time.

Yes, because the game is using photogrammetry, pictures of real things converted to models and not actually modelled objects. They take many pictures from different angles/sides of an object and the software spits out the model.

So what? I just made a comment about my personal observation of the graphical quality. If this approach based on photogrammetry is superior to different approaches (in terms of visuals) more power to them.

They're literally pictures of real things, you can't get any better than that :p
Well, yes and no. There is something like the uncanny valley. You need to have a certain technological level to really benefit from such realism. But it seems that technology is far enough to make photogrammetry a thing today. I guess sooner or later this approach will replace modeled gaming worlds for every game with a realistic approach because its implementation not only emulates nature but really feels like natural and organic and realistic.

I think that would be a grim day when artistry is replaced by photorealism but I'd rather not start that debate and go offtopic. Good thing Astronauts are not going that route and still being artsy.

I'll post some photogrammetry instead.

Photogrammetric assets mixed with traditional modelled assets and artsy mystery lighting.
