The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Nah, it is not scary. But it is sufficiently creepy, and very atmospheric. I am simply reveling in it. :)
So, it is about 4 hours? With my habit to get into every nook and cranny, and to admire beautiful views, it will be 6-8 hours. Not so bad for a (nextgen) point-and-click adventure.
My only wish for it is not to have such obvious prompts on a screen at all. May be just some faint graphical clues on active areas, and I sure don't need inscriptions with question marks, or names of objects. I am pretty sure I know how they are called, and what blood on the ground might mean. Should be able to turn them off in the menu. But it is not even a complain, just a hint for a future game, which I'll buy in a heart-beat. I hope the Astronauts will keep making games similar to TVOEC.

EDIT:
OK, what's up with GOG? I am happily playing A PIRATED COPY because GOG downloads are two rar files that require passwords to open. I have no idea what's inside the archives, btw. The installation file does not read them, and informs me that source files are not found. WTF???

Why is it that every time I want to be a decent and honest person, I am always screwed? I want my legally purchased game!!! I am tired of torrents!!! Help!!! (I contacted GOG support and still waiting for their reply). :mean:

I just finished the game and It's certainly an odd one!
The whole thing is basically a dream made up by Ethan to explain why his family hate him so much.

Played it loved it ..... best game of its type since Myst Revelation.

The story boarders of death porn but comes together in the end. I hope these guys make a lot more games like this.

No shooting, no killing, no homicide and above all organic things to solve that actually fit into the game. You feel like a real person trying to do something as opposed to a power gamer trying to guess the convoluted contrived puzzles usually in games.

If you want an experience play this game.

Be warned it is short .

This game is Dear Esther + actual gameplay :) I walked through Dear Esther three times without any understanding why a hell I was wasting time on it. :) These two games for me are a species of modern visual art. But The Vanishing of Ethan Carter looks better, and has some cool puzzles/investigations. I'll be re-playing it many times as some sort of meditation.
I hope the Astronauts will get enough money for it, and will keep making similar games in the future.

Well, it is probably not
a dream as such, but his last story he invents in the moment of his death. Yes, may be about why his family hates him, but also as a wish that someone will come in time and save him. Like a day dream of a condemned man that somehow he will be saved from execution. It is pretty sad, really.

At least, it is my interpretation.

Why is everyone hating on Dear Esther. :'( I thought the atmosphere and story were superb. Weather or not it is a video game or a visual art installation or for me a visual audio book, doesn't matter. Did really nobody like the story or the atmosphere? When it came out it looked quite differently.

Well anyway. I liked The Vanishing, though the riddles were a bit simple and a bit few. Hope they expand upon the formula and add more riddles besides having the interesting psychic mechanics.

As I had hear here will be redux version of this game. However I still had not chance to play the Vanishing of Ethan Carter, but I head a lot of possitive feedback. Isn't it powered by source engine btw ? Visualy it looks stunning anyways :)
