Last two pictures yes.... others, not so much. The wasteland is really just the rural landscape of northern California. No crumbling cities (at least not in the vicinity of NC.

Well, like i have said, it is to show a general idea what a place like wasteland would look like. (Old and crumbling) And i don't really want any other crumbling cities so close to Night City. But without an abandoned settlement or two, it cannot be called a wasteland. (You make it sound like it should be more like a desert than a wasteland) So, there should be abandoned "small" town or two (One of them would probably be occupied by some group of nomads, mercenaries or slavers) And other should be a place we can explore. (Hopefully a place with a dark history) And there should be roads with lots of abandoned cars.

I agree on your point on Skyrim, it did not feel mage college or whatever centric. On the down side I also didn't feel that it felt main story centric either. To me the main story was not compelling either. You could pick it up or leave it for any amount of time with no consequences, a lack of urgency translates into a lack of caring for me.

I would sacrifice some sand box-ness for some linearity, if it meant that there is a compelling story to be told. Not all of the main story elements need to be time sensitive but some should, or perhaps the main story intrudes back into your life in some way if you if you leave it for too long. Leaving some stuff too long may e a part of the branching story line.

Besides no Nomad, ever, will trust a 'reformed' Corporate, they might be dumb but they're not that dumb.

I hated Skyrim's main story. It felt as if it wasn't even there. It was way too shallow. But Fallout 3 did main quest really well. I mean, there were no time constraints, but main quest felt urgent and important. You couldn't disengage from it, because it felt as if what you were doing is important.

That's why they are more of a mercenary group than a nomadic group. They are just called nomads because that's more convenient for their business model. Their relationship with a corp would be more of a financial nature than anything else. Because everybody likes the color green.. (Or whatever is the color of the Night City's currency. You get the idea.)

This is my point, and to my taste Fallout 3 lost a bit on the story also. I would like for a happy medium between the compelling but linear stories of the Mass Effect universe and the near total freedom of play in the Fallout/Elder Scrolls type games. There does need to be some way for a compelling story to be able to exert its influence over the player character's world.

Size and diversity of the map in no way impacts the story... They have already stated the story will be non-linear, that is in fact one of the few things that have been confirmed..

OK, let me paint a full picture:

Imagine a tiny abandoned town in the wastelands, that lies on the side of the road. Complete with an abandoned police station, fire station, a small hospital, a small school, town hall and a dozen abandoned houses. (Some of them are burned down, some crumbles from age and some intact) At the other side of the road, about a few miles from the town, a couple of abandoned factories. The road itself is abandoned because it is mostly used by nomads, bandits and smugglers. Occasionally a few police cruisers patrol the road. They have an uneasy understanding with most of the nomad tribes (nomads allow them to go on their way because they dislike bandits even more), they kill or get killed by bandits all the time and they get bribed by smugglers often. (Not many honest cops out there.)

2 Miles before you enter the town, you see an abandoned gas station:

Interesting pictures. Are they of a town, or random images?

Highland Park, a small poor town right outside Detroit. In Deus Ex Human Revolution there's plenty of industry settled there because of the cheap land. :)

Certainly wouldnt want to live there today. We will see what will be done there in the upcoming decades.

Some of the pictures are from a single abandoned town, others are from Detroit, Chernobyl and Japan.

Detroit is the place to look for abandoned industry and its surrounding environs. You could look at Gary, Indiana for an example of a town that still exists but has fallen on very hard times. I imagine that there may be one or two of those out in the wastes.

And entire city abandoned and claimed by nature. Beautiful.

You know, i probably would, but since they didn't release it to the PC and i cannot afford to buy both a PS3 and the game, i will have to pass. At least for now.
