The Witcher 1, patching and installing EE on Win 7 64 Bit not working

Hello.

I got a new PC with Windows 7 64 Bit. I installed the game with my DVD, when i tried patch 1.5 right away i get the error couldnt find version... So i installed 1.3 first. Then 1.5 same error. So i thought ah well install the EE first. Doesn't work either, wants me to register the game. Tried my old acc, didn't work anymore. Made a new Account and after typing the Key it starts. I quit at menu, try EE... Same error, so i register the game 3 times more.... meeeeeh

What is wrong? I did everything as Admin but it does not save my registration. I even installed the plague ie tages...

Help me please.

1) Uninstall TAGES, you don't need it.
2) Reinstall TW1 from scratch.
3) Install this: http://wpc.4d7d.edgecastcdn.net/004D7D/files/TWEE/TWEE_Upgrade.exe
4) Install this: http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/The-Witcher-Patch.shtml
Works for me, I'm using Win7 64 as well.

Like i said... EE doesn't work, it wants the game to be registered.

Edit: Oh dammit. I am so sorry this is my first time posting in a wrong section, can a mod put it to the Witcher 1 Tech?

There are quite a few of the EE versions out now and it would be helpful knowing which version you have . Reinstall the game and when finished go to your game directory and open the witcher/system folder , locate the witcher exe and hover your mouse over it and in the dialog box that appears there will be a version number . If it says 1.5.0.1304 that means you are already on the 1.5 patch . Anything less and you will need to apply the 1.5 patch .

Some EE versions come with the 1.4 patch installed and unfortunately Tages as well and the original Tages drivers don`t react well with windows 7 .

You can also try running the game from the witcher exe that i pointed you to earlier .

Ok, i need to repeat a few things i said:

I had one of the first DVDs of The Wither, which means after installing it it is 1.0 Retail, then i downloaded months later the EE as soon as it was available on this website(Needed to write in the CD-Key 50 times because the site couldn't handle the load). These originals files i backuped am i using now. Update 1.3 Works, Update 1.5 does not because it can't find the Version even after reinstall(Clean delete with registry too) same as the EE which tells me to registrate my game... Which i did ten times...

Tages works because i even downloaded that crap from their site since Patch 1.5 which gets rid of the DRM does not work.

So here again:

EE does not install because no registered game.
Patch 1.5 does not install because it can't find the Version which is odd since 1.3(tested after 1.5 try) could.

witcher.exe 1.3.0.1198

Ok that`s a little more clearer...thanks . Follow the instructions below for the patch that does not require registration .

If you get the 1.4 patch from the link http://www.thewitcher.com/the-witcher/1/ along with the language pack unless you already have the language pack and set the patch up as follows .
Create a folder and place both the language pack and the 1.4 patch in this folder . Then open the folder and run the 1.4 patch as admin . Let it finish patching . Then apply the 1.5 patch and and remove the Tages drivers . Then retry the game .

Until the game is patched to the 1.4 (EE) the 1.5 patch will not update .

The game will be as before and no difference to the gameplay or quests as everything remains the same . The only difference is that`s not registered . But until CDPR gets the registration function of the forum working neither TW 1 or TW 2 can be registered . I wait patiently for the day when i see the little wolf medallion(s) showing that i have a registered game !

Glad to hear it`s working for you .

Hello.

Hum... I'm doing something wrong certanly but I've downloaded the patch from that link, and when I put it in a folder with the language patch and I try to run it, it still promt a "Register your Witcher before updating".

Maybe the EE patch has changed last month?

/

Thanks a lot.

Possibly , CDPR tends to change things and not let us in on it from time to time .

Here is an MD5 for the unregistered version of the 1.4 patch and a link for the verifier
TWEE_Upgrade.exe 393b4783f2d6b906a6eaea3d927b4a92

http://www.nero.com/eng/tools-utilities.html#tab3
Verifying is pretty easy . Once you download the verifier and unzip it then open it and once it appears copy and paste the above number in the top line and using the browse button on the second line , browse to wherever you have the 1.4 patch and select it . Then a verifying process will be started and when finished either the top line will turn green which means the patch is ok but if the top line turns red the patch is no good and will need to be redownloaded .

That`s strange as the hash i gave you is for the unregisterable version . Go ahead and try registering with your cd-key and so forth but i`m pretty sure it won`t complete . Then try running your 1.4 patch again . Be sure and right click the 1.4 and select run as administrator .

I also have an issue with installing the game.
I have the retail version of the original Witcher game, so no EE.
When I try to install patch 1.4 it says the language pack corresponding to the language version of the game already on your system was not foutnd. Download the relevant language pack. But when I follow the link here on the website I'm sent to a polish website with only TWEE_Upgrade.exe on it... I can't seem to find a language pack anywhere...
I've already updated Tagès to 5.5 so it wouldn't cause an issue anymore, but this didn't help at all..

Please help.

I just bought the Witcher 2, but I want to play the Witcher 1 again to import my save games.

EDIT: just found the language pack on another forum. Now it's installing.
Now I'm trying to install patch 1.5

EDIT2: Super! Everything works! The only problem now is the fact that I get serious framerate dips during cutscenes, although I get 60fps in game and I've got a decent laptop running the game..

Glad you found out a solution by yourself

About this issue: if you list your specs could be helpful to us. I would try to set the game to medium settings and see how it goes.

My Laptop is an ASUS X5QSF with some extra RAM memory, here are the specs (checked with CPU-Z):

CPU: Intel® Core™i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz

Mainboard: ASUSTeK Computer Inc., N55SF

Memory: DDR3, 8192MB

Graphics: nvidia Geforce GT555M, 2GB

OS: Microsoft Windows 7(6.1) Home Premium Edition, Service Pack 1 (Build 7601), DirectX 11.0)

(this laptop runs The Witcher 2 in high settings (720p) at 30FPS, so I guessed The Witcher 1 wouldn't be a problem)

High settings is fine for that setup.

I always wonder, when there are problems with cutscenes or menus or any 2-D segment of a 3-D game on a modern laptop, whether it's due to mode switching.

Modern drivers try to downshift the GPU to save power and heat when they are doing work that doesn't need the GPU's full functionality. They may cut the clock by a factor of 2 or 3, and may shut off part of the GPU. On Optimus-equipped laptops (and any ASUS with an nVidia GPU and a Sandy Bridge or Nehalem CPU probably has Optimus), they may even shift the work to the Intel GPU.

If there isn't already a profile for TWEE in the nVidia Control Panel, I might try making one and telling it to "use the high performance nVidia GPU" (it's one of the 3D settings).
